are you aware that the spdif out can be improved by changing

indicates that the Touch spdif out is not perfect as seems to be the
implication.

So given that the spdif out is not perfect and can be improved upon then
another way to get improved sound is to bypass it by using asynch usb.
It's not rocket science to understand how that might benefit the sound.

I don't understand why you would post about things you have no

Of course, no S/PDIF out is perfect. S/PDIF has its issues. Whether

HAS improved the sound somewhat. It's just a bit more rounded and easier
on the ears. Expectation bias? I don't think so.

I also keep reading that a computer hooked up to a decent USB DAC or USB
converter/DAC bests the Touch hooked up to the same DAC by a decent
margin so my next step will be to connect the V-Link to a PC.

I didn't want to spend a fortune on an expensive USB converter just to
satisfy my curiosity. I forget who, but someone on Computer Audiophile
did a review of the V-Link 192 and rated its sound quality to be about
90% of the best out there. So I when I saw it for 1/2 price on Music

Hope that explains my irrational behavior. I'm not being sarcastic

Async USB may be better when the DAC has the corresponding USB -input-,
but USB spdiff converter is not the same thing you have not removed
spdiff out of the picture at all , hence the whole idea seems a bit off
??

The rationale behind the existence USB/spdiff converters is to provide
spdiff where there is none , from some laptop to a dac that does not
have usb for example .

I fully agree in theory. That was what I was telling others too.

I suspect the reported differences are system dependent. When my DAC was
a Cambridge Audio 840C I preferred the setup via a VLink II USB to SPDIF
converter. After I switched to a DSPeaker Dual Core DAC/EQ, I preferred
the straight SPDIF connection.

My Win7 firewall is disabled so I guess its not an issue related with

I can connect to the SBTouch using putty (SSH).

Already had a look at

Not understanding what you are attempting. Are you trying to connect
your LMS server to your Touch player by using the LMS web UI?
If yes, try connecting from the Touch itself by selecting My Music.

If you are trying to connect a web browser to the Touch directly, you
cannot do this.

Yes the tiny version of LMS that is running on a Touch does not have the

One very important thing you haven't indicated is where you are running
LMS.

The web interface you are trying to use for LMS only works if you are
running LMS on a computer, a NAS (network attached storage) or similar
_external_ device. If you are using the Touch's built-in server (also
known as TinyLMS, TinySBS, or TinySC) then you cannot control it via a
web browser. You can, however, control it via infrared remote,
touchscreen, mobile device plus relevant app (iPeng, Squeezepad, etc) or
SqueezePlay running on another computer.

in post 219:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?93310-Async-USB-Dac-Experiments-testers-wantedp=70viewfull=1#post70

This is basically ensuring the interval requested for the syncpipe (the
feedback connection) is not too long for the size of the ehci schedule
maintained by the linux kernel - essentially it can't schedule periodic
intervals which are too long as the size of the schedule held in memory
means that scheduling packets into the future goes beyond the size of
the schedule held.

I wouldn't say that you're totally wrong, but you do seem to be working
at cross purposes if on the one hand you are (a) running the Touch's
built-in server and (b) applying some of soundcheck's mods (and you
didn't say you were, but your reference to the blog suggests you may be
thinking about it).

Also, while the principles put forth on that blog are that it is better
to minimize the Touch's computing load, opinion is completely divided on
whether it really makes any difference. I tried the tt 2.0 version of
soundcheck's toolkit and I didn't hear any clear differences. Your
mileage may vary.

Absolutely NOT! The data is streamed for the computer running Squeezebox
server (SBS) or LMS to the Touch. All Squeezeplay, Moose or any Web
interface does is tell the computer running SBS/LMS what music (data) to
stream, when to play, when to stop, when to pause, etc. Again, they have

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Async USB Dac Experiments - testers wanted...

2012-11-01 Thread lake_eleven

I updated touch to 7.8. Installed TT 3.0, installed EDO. I use HRT II+
USB DAC with hub. I am getting clicks and pops. Commented the priority
line in rcs.local file as suggested by John Swenson. Still I get the
clicks. Any suggestions?.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Simple way to control and view SBT screen from my listening position.

Does Squeezeplay , Moose or any Web interface degrade the quality of

 position.

Your only problem is the fan noise from the laptop :) as ralphy
explained the controll always go trough the server in all cases so it is
technically the same regardless of controll location .

If you noticed the Touch itself is a controller and a player , it can
controll other players too if you got more than one there is an choose
player menu ,so all controll goes via the server anyway and also most of
the content in the menus are produced by the server so Touch does not
know about your artist or such thing it's the server(s) ( you can have
more than one of those to ) .
After your done your playlist Touch simply gets a stream to play and
some information to display on the screen while doing that.
