Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SqueezePad or iPeng app?

2012-12-05 Thread toby10

If you want to switch between servers simply move switch to MySB.com
to your home menu.
Touch Settings Advanced Networking switch to MySB.com, press
hold, select add to Home menu

Now to switch servers simply select My Music to connect to LMS or select
switch to MySB.com to select MySB.com.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Web Server non accessible

2012-12-05 Thread erwjack

Hi all,
I have an SBT with fw 7.7.2-r9663 running the lms 7.7.2-r33893 on an
external usb drive.
The server has regularly indexed all music files in the external hdd and
the SBT works well.
The problem is that I can't connect with the SBT server via web.
I tried with ports 9000 and 4384, with IE, Firefox, Chrome without
success.
I'm sure I have no sort of network limitations.
Any idea to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance.

EJ

The problem is that I can't connect with the SBT server via web.

The server built in to the Touch does not have a web UI.

I run LMS 24/7, so I agree with this approach. But I'd also note that
once you get the hang of things, it is trivial to switch back and forth
between LMS and mysb.com and then have ipeng figure this out. As toby10
said, definitely put the switch to mysb.com menu option on the TOUCH
 home menu.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll take toby10's and your suggestion
and move switch to mysb.com on the Touch's home menu.

p.s. a dedicated computer for running LMS can be very cheap and
inexpensive. A $100 used windows laptop is more than enough.

That's good to know. I'll certainly be letting you guys know when I'm
ready to tackle that.

edit: and you're trying to learn a lot of stuff about how these things
work together in a short time. You'll find that it is all actually much
simpler than you may be imagining. The first week or two I downloaded
SqueezeCenter (the old LMS) I had no clue how all this stuff fit
together, the difference between SC and SqueezeNetwork (the old
mysb.com), etc. etc. And I wasn't even trying to use anything like ipeng
at that time either. So there is a learning curve, but the lightbulb
 will come on pretty quickly.

Lol..ain't that the truth! I've never used an Apple product before,
so I'm learing how to use the iPad, iPeng, and accessing my Touch
remotely, all at the same time (my brain hurts!), but I'll get there.

What allways work is to the switch over the player to mysqueezebox.com

Thanks for the tip. :)

And just to blow your mind:

Any Laptop, PC, Tablet, Smartphone, (using the correct app/software) can
 become a squeezebox player.
Any squeezebox player can control any other player on your network, e.g.
you can use your Touch remote/touchscreen to control music playing on
your Laptop or PC or iPad mini etc...

All info for this when you're ready available here, just ask!

Information overload...LOL. I'll get to that later! ;)

I greatly appreciate everyone's help here. :) :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Duplicate songs on Touch-How to remove?

2012-12-05 Thread d6jg

Have seen multiple duplicates caused by different file path pointers in
playlist files. Edit your playlist files to use the same consistent path
as that used by the Music Library files - click more info on track and
you will find full path - then rescan.

This evening I made sure LMS was running and the Touch was connected
before I powered up the iPad and launched iPeng. This time iPeng had no
trouble seeing both the Touch and my iPad. :)

Hmm. Then something else is wrong. I can do a complete clear and rescan
of about 70,000 files in an hour. And new and changed scan in a couple
of minutes. Mostly FLAC and most have artwork.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Question from an old newbie

2012-12-05 Thread Mnyb

Are the files locally on the server or spread out on remote shares ?

As usual music folder is much slower than artist or album and it is
slow to respond while scanning .

But something must be strange here as your server should be able to do
better .

You should ,not scan for videos or pictures ,unselect that on the
selected music folder also disable the upnp/dlna plugin ?
Use the high memory setting in performance .

A gigabit connection doesnt overcome a woefully underpowered nas. What
takes my vortexbox an hour took my old readynas duo (also gigabit) over
a day to scan.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch going off whilst playing

2012-12-05 Thread crazyj

Well, I'm not sure how, but in the course of reinstalling LMS/SC, I
managed to undo the plugin that keeps my windows machine awake. I
fiddled with it for a couple of weeks, and realized it wasn't my NIC
that was the problem. windows7 is just retarded and needs to be told to
stay awake unless there is mouse/keyboard. It apparently ignores
network activity, and just goes to sleep.

Interesting, I have heard of Vortexbox but never dug deeper.

- Is Vortexbox a software only solution? I see a lot of Vortexox based
hardware boxes.

- If I just want to use a dedicated PC with gobs of storage just to
serve as a LMS or may be as a file server for my MacMini/Pure Music
player, could I just download VortexBox and be in business within
minutes?

- Is Vortexbox free? Do I have to buy anything else?

- After the Vortexbox software is installed, can the PC be left running
headless and be accessed 100% from a web client?

- Can a Unix/Linux dummy like me live happily with Vortexbox? Will I
get stuck at some point if I am not a Linux person?

Sorry about all the questions.

One more question on Vortexbox if I may.

Someone mentioned that my slowness is due to slow NAS. If I my
Vortexbox has no internal storage and access the same NAS through the
LAN, would I still experience the dramatic speed improvement?
