That's also a thing to consider ,don't disconect the drive add files
over the network .

You may also be able to access the hidden folder via the Mac while the
HDD is still attached to the Touch. Enable file sharing on the Touch,
and the HDD becomes a network drive, accessible from any computer on
your network, including the Mac.

it's on the HDD (not the Touch). connect the HDD to the MAC, and
somewhere in the MAC file explorer (or whatever you call it in a Mac)
you tell it to "show hidden files/folders".

One more thing to note. In addition to setting the permissions so that
your music and album art files can be read by all users, you need to
make sure that you give all users permission to read _and_\"execute\"_
the folders in your music library. In the case of folders, "execute"
means that users can read the contents of the folder. Basically, you
want to make sure that all the folders in your music library are mode
755, and all the files are 644.

SSH ( to use the commands DjAngo suggested ) to the NAS .

Suitable windows terminal client is usually putty , if your PC is
running OSX or Linux just start a terminal .

you can also use "ls -la" to list the problem files and see their
current permissions if they are OK this is not the problem .
If you are completely new to Linux I recommend google there are tons of
helpfully info out there for reference on how to use commandline tools
.

Many commands take -R as option which means "recursive" so you can run a
suitable command for changing file permissions from the top of the
directory and the commands goes down the file structure and effect all
files below where you issued the command.

hatschi,

this is the wrong place...

File and sharing permissions have less to do with the rights on a file
itself.

when lms is on the same system as the files and lms path to the file
isnt starting with \\server\share then the sharerights have nothing to
do at all ;-)

There are rights for the smb (or whatever) share and there are file
permissions on the Filesystem.
Be shure to give lms the rights for the filesystem not for the share.

* chgrp
* chmod
* ls-l
are the tools you should use

Whether that works or not depends on your group definitions. It sounds
as if the user that LMS runs under isn't in the group that owns the
files. You should make them readable by everyone (that is,
world-readable), just as Mnyb said. User and group readable is not
sufficient in your setup.

Sq will be the same . And besides having to little memory Touch have
problems with bus powered drives or rather the USB power output is not
as overspeced as many computers , it still puts out more mA than the
standard requires , but many disc manufacturers cheats with bus powered
drives and they really pull more power than they should .

A powered hub or a drive with its own power supply is prefered .

Also sometimes deleting the database and directory the Touch placed on
the drive and let it begin from scratch can help .
It's a hidden folder named .squeezebox I think .

As many treads on this forum tells a not to big library well organised
files and folders ( one folder per album album folders organised in
artist folders ) and the file tags should be in very good shape , is
most likely to work .

And also kep in mind the the file format support is less because Touch
can not transcode, so keep to flac or mp3 .

Thank you. Im being to think im better of just streaming from my mac is
a better option. I tried resetting the touch last night and it seemed to
work fine for a couple of hours. However i left it running overnight and
saw a error message that the sever has stoped due to a problem.

Unless there's some sort of conversion or bit rate limiting going on
then absolutely not.

There's also an argument that with the touch being woefully under
powered that running the server on the touch is bad for Sq but I don't
believe that myself.
