I owe it to myself not to waste money on power supplies that don't make

Can you describe the setup a bit more? The model of the speakers and
how the wiring from the Touch is done?

In these situations, it's good to have a voltmeter around so you can
test the output from the Touch by playing a test tone through it and
measuring the output voltage.

For the Touch the biggest change was the Enhanced Digital Output app,
but looks like that was launched back in 2012, so you may know about
that already.

The Touch is still pretty capable with the EDO app installed. I still
use mine for my headphone system. I use an RPi4 (headless) running
piCorePlayer for my speaker system.

For me, the biggest changes in LMS were:

* LMS 7.9 including a Composer menu.
* Qobuz
* Material Skin, finally a decent web interface
* Music & Artist Info (I can read all those PDFs in my music folders)

I really don't want to run ethernet to the Touch. However, I hear don't

bandwidth issue.

To eliminate the DAC, I may try playing the files with some other media

I spoke too soon. The Vega stutters when switching between sample rates
with the exact clock setting whatever buffer setting I use on the Touch.
I have to back off to the clock setting to auto if I'm doing a lot of
switching between sample rates. If I'm just playing one sample rate,
the exact setting is OK. Not a huge deal, as the clock accuracy
probably still beats most DACs out there.

I would just put this info in the ARTIST field, unless you specifically
want to browse by BAND (and then I think you'll need custom browse for
that, though hopefully I'm wrong). And my tendency would be to just
shorten it to Dohnanyi/Cleveland.

I do use the CONDUCTOR and BAND tag, but I don't know why I bother

ARTIST tag. If you want to credit all the artists, I think it would be
better to put them in the COMMENT or use a custom tag like PERFORMER.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] dbPowerAmp/Classical Music SB Touch

2011-02-13 Thread Daverz

You'll find some advice on tagging classical music on the Wiki. There's
no standard way to do it.

There are standard tags for COMPOSER, CONDUCTOR and BAND (or
orchestra). Unfortunately, these don't get displayed up front. There
is an option to fold them into artists, but it doesn't work in the
album display or in now playing. These fields do work in searches.

I try to put the composer in the album title and leave ARTIST for the
actual musicians, e.g.

ALBUM: Brahms Tchaikovsky: Violin Concertos
ARTIST: Heifetz; Reiner

If you have a large collection, you should look into Custom
Scan/Browse. At the very least it allows you to create a menu sorted by
the COMPOSER tag, or you can add your own custom tags.

In this world, instead of objects wearing out as you use them, they
improve. This is referred to as the Practice effect. For example,
swords get sharper with use, baskets get stronger the more things they
carry, mirrors, furniture and decorations look more attractive the more
they are looked at. The downside to this being that an object's
condition deteriorates over time if not put to use. Under this system,
members of society's higher strata employ servants to Practice their

Needless to say, our world doesn't work this way.

A decade about, I would agree that not everyone could use a DAW. Even
inexpensive ones cost $100 and good ones were close to a grand.

I don't know about you, but I'm not interested in spending any money on
PC speakers, so I have a couple crappy speakers placed suboptimally (not
even balanced) in the space available near my PC that are adequate for
listening to Youtube and the like. This is worthless for getting the
proper balance at the listening position in my living room system.
Again, the problem here is that you expect people to do things the way
you would do them and do without the things you don't need.
