Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] A touch remote?
I have an SE X10 mini and a HTC desire. Just about the opposite ends of screen-estate available on an android-phone. I actually tend to prefer Squeezecommander on the x10 mini over the Desire. The Desire requires less focus to hit the right "touch-spot". But the x10 mini just fits my hand better. The Desire for me is more a two-handed device. Oh. And I recommend Squeezecommander for Android-based devices by the way. One of the neatest features is that it doesn't require Wlan to work. It can work across the mobile internet as well. -- Muele BR Mogens 2 Radios (1 battery), 2 Controllers, 2 Receivers, 1 Squeezeplay. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox touch DLNA & UPNP?
Short answer: No, The touch is not a upnp/dnla client. No, Popcorn hour will not run the necesary squeezeboxserver software. So you will have to look for another solution. I recommend setting up a server of some kind that can serve both pop and touch. It could be an old scap-laptop running the software from vortexbox.com. Or just a netbook. The squeezeboxes support wake on LAN, so if the pop does as well, you could suspend the server when not in use and have it wake automatically when needed. You could also plug an external harddrive into the touch and let it serve itself and the pop. But from what I hear, that solution is not working optimally due to the touch's limited hardware. -- Muele BR Mogens 2 Radios (1 battery), 2 Controllers, 2 Receivers, 1 Squeezeplay. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] What can i do with an unused laptop?
My experience with vortexbox is that it works really good. But the version that I used was unable to use a musiclibrary on a usb-disk, without serious Linux-knowledge. That may have changed since then. I recommend just installing SBS on the vista you have and see how it does. If it performs overly well try adjusting the power options, ecreasing performance, will save power. Find the right balance. If it runs badly on the vista, you sure can pull some extra power out of the hardware be installing vortexbox instead. For me, Windows XP, without a running anti-virus does the trick, on really low-speck hardware. But that is ofcourse risky, if you doen't implement security elsewhere. My server is some old pentium three or four running 800 mhz with just 384 mb RAM. But my music collection is much smaller than yours. So obviously your experience will differ from mine. Bottom line: The laptop you have will suffice for musicserver. Just find the right software configuration for it. -- Muele BR Mogens 2 Radios (1 battery), 2 Controllers, 2 Receivers, 1 Squeezeplay. If you by GNU mean any well-known Linux-distro, It is not. Logitech made their own distro for the squeezebox line. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] amazon cancelled today
Sure a lot of people would be content with the touch as it is. But for Logitech I think it is really important that is in a really good state when launched. Reason: There will be a gazillion reviews right upon launch. Launch with mediocre software will result in bad reviews, that will haunt the product forever even if the software is fixed two weeks later. Logitech mised the holliday season and now they just want it to be bloody perfect when released. For not-yet-customers it doesn't really matter if sales starts two months later if they haven't heard about the product yet anyway.
