[SlimDevices: Touch] I've seen one for sale... UK, Cash Converters

2015-07-07 Thread Peter Galbavy

If anyone needs on in the UK, Cash Converters is listing one for £180
(with make an offer option):

http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-item/917093/logitech-squeezebox-touch-

Bit steep and I have no immediate need, but if any one else does ... no
mention of condition but I have found they answer questions on the
web-site quite well.

Usual disclaimer: I am just a consumer, no connection with the vendor
etc.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch does not recognise Powerline ethernet

2014-08-05 Thread Peter Galbavy

You may need a cross over cable. Most newer devices that use Gigabit
ethernet will autosense and switch but an older device like the Touch
with it's 100Mbs ethernet will not. Do any lights come on anywhere on
the TP-Link when the ethernet is plugged in either from the Touch or the
laptop? If the latter works but not the former then this is prob the
problem.

Using a switch would have the same effect.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch doesn't return to home screen after restore of power (after outage)

2013-11-22 Thread Peter Galbavy

I got home last night and one of my Touches screens was blank and
normally it's the digital clock. Much faffing about later it turned out
that the Touch had become detached from the wireless network and
couldn't recover itself. I reconnected *and* re-entered the auth info
for the LMS and all returned to normal.

No errors were raised and Now Playing went nowhere. It's only when I
tried My Music that I started getting the message something was
missing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Setting a DNS - no easy way to change the Touch?

2012-10-24 Thread Peter Galbavy

Do you mean set the dynamic DNS *name* for the touch or the address of
the DNS resolver for the touch? From your mention of OpenDNS I think you
mean the former?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Audiophile Touch mods - take two

2010-06-25 Thread Peter Galbavy

Great advertising but I am sure you have some sort of axe to grind here.
The Touch - and other SB products - do a lot more than the DAC thing you
are promoting. Most newer DACs have USB inputs and that's great. I don't
see the network connectivity, the put my loud spinning platters in
another room features, the navigation etc.

Each device has it's +ve and -ve points. Try to sell the positives of
your product and not the negatives of your competitors and you will get
better responses.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 24/96 Perfromance Issue ( Solution!)

2010-06-09 Thread Peter Galbavy

Just a quick random update of my experience with 24/96 files.

I installed a nightly 7.5.1 when I first got my Touch and while I
experienced stutter at the beginning of playing a 24/96 FLAC album,
once it was playing the whole album would play through fine, gapless
and all. This is on a wired network, ReadyNAS NV+.

After many recent problems with CPU usage and perceived slow
performance (navigating through the 24,000 odd tracks I have) I have
been attempting to upgrade to 7.6 nightlies in the hope that the SQLite
support would help improve matters. After lots of clearing out old
releases and shutting down mysql etc. it all finally worked and the
scan went much quicker than previously. Nice.

However, now, 24/96 FLAC files stutter and rebuffer repeatedly on a
cycle of about 5 seconds. I really don't want to go back to 7.5.1 with
mysql. Suggestions welcomed - and I will keep an eye on the nightlies
too.

I do notice that CPU on the ReadyNAS is pretty much 98%+ so this is the
likely cause rather than the Touch itself but not sure where to look on
the server side:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
2910 root 30 5 72656 63m 5488 R 98.0 6.5 26:47.21 perl

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch remote control lettered jumps diff to SB3

2010-05-22 Thread Peter Galbavy

Finally had a little time to actually use my nice shiny new Touch last
night. I noticed a couple of changes in behavious that I have not seen
mentioned;

On the SB3 when in Artists the remote 1 button goes to my Various
Artists (auto created from compilations) folder which by its existence
is at the top of the list. Now it goes to the next Artist down 10,000
Maniacs.

Then, when in my Various Artists folder the remote control number
buttons no longer jump to the letters as in the SB3 or in the Artists
folder above.

The first change above may well be a feature but the second feels like
a bug... anyone else ?

[SlimDevices: Touch] Screensaver = None doesn't work

2010-05-22 Thread Peter Galbavy

I like to stay in the artist / album hierarchy unless I press Now
Playing. Setting the Screensaver to None doesn't work and after the
delay (def 30 seconds) it goes back to Now Playing. Annoying and
another change in behaviour from other SBs I am used to. I have now set
the delay to 30 minutes which is a sort of work around, but still
annoying.

Or am I using the wrong option on the SqueezePlay platform ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Screensaver = None doesn't work

2010-05-22 Thread Peter Galbavy

My mistake. Pressing play sends you straight to Now Playing. It's only
hanging around the navigation hierarchy while something is playing that
sends you to Now Playing even when screensaver is Off.

Both annoying features/bugs...

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Screensaver = None doesn't work

2010-05-22 Thread Peter Galbavy

OK, put some of this down to luser error. On the touch the left and
right directional buttons move from the Now Playing screen to the
playlist and/or albums. Will play more. I still think there is
something fishy with screensaver = none though.
