Anyone have success controlling a Touch with an URC remote? I still

OFA have updated their code database and actually sent me a URC-7780 to
test with the Misc function and code 2436. It controls the Touch (and
Radio) fine.

I recall they had an update policy for any remote that wasn't
field-upgradable where you could send it back within a year of purchase
and have it updated for free. Otherwise there is a charge.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Universal remote controls SB3 but not Touch

2010-04-21 Thread mr-b

Hi

I'm trying to get my universal remote (One For All URC 7556) to work
with the Touch. It works fine with my SB3 (using the JVC DVD code 0623)
but it seems to do absolutely nothing with the Touch.

I found this rather odd since the SB3 and Touch remotes appear to be
largely interchangeable i.e. the SB3 remote controls the Touch fine and
vice versa (sans a few keys).

WTF?

That seems rather a strange design decision. Is there any particular
reason why, given that it used to work?

Also why does the SB3 remote still control the Touch? Is it outputting
two sets of IR codes?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Universal remote controls SB3 but not Touch

2010-04-21 Thread mr-b

Ah, so I'm guessing you mean that the SB3 (etc.) remote only ever used a
non-JVC code?

This is a real pain since now at least one quite popular brand of
universal remotes that used to work with SB kit now no longer does so.

What's most frustrating is that I don't think anyone ever knew (from
the forum posts I've seen anyway) that the proper codes weren't the
JVC DVD ones. Otherwise it would have been possible to get the
manufacturer to change the codes and incorporate them in all new
remotes. :-(

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Universal remote controls SB3 but not Touch

2010-04-21 Thread mr-b

Alll this may have been known about for years by certain ppl, but the
JVC vs proper remote code thing has been a complete revelation to me
(SB user since SB3).

I'm not in any way an OFA remote fan-boy, but the fact that that their
supoort dept has offered several times (to me anyway) to create a code
for any device that they don't have in their database by sending in a
learned-code or actual device remote control with an upgraded remote in
return, suggests to me that they *are* willing to add new devices to
their database.

Then contrast this with SD/Logitech not documenting the proper codes in
user-readable way e.g. manual or wiki, then silently pulling the JVC
code support from newer devices, and then just happening to have their
own universal remote offering - it all does tend to be rather irksome.
:(

[SlimDevices: Touch] Where is Date Time setting?

2010-04-13 Thread mr-b

It seems very odd, but I can't find the Date Time setting on the
Touch. (It's present under Settings Screen on the Radio, Controller
and SqueezePlay)

Call me European, but the 12h clock really irks me. ;)

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Where is Date Time setting?

2010-04-13 Thread mr-b

Very odd - the setting is now back again. Maybe it's because I was
alternating between touch screen and remote, and the font size change
threw me. Or that some menus seem to be entered from the bottom,
IYSWIM.

Logitech Europe support just said that the Touch was released yesterday
lunchtime - express delivery orders get priority shipment with expected
delivery by the end of this week. Pennypinching misers get theirs next
week. ;)
