Esoteric bug - with 7.5, and fixed in the 7.6 nightlies (though might
have introduced syncing problems, not sure if related).

With SOME NPR streams, the header (thank you for supporting OPB...)
is malformed or something, and messes up the streaming on the Touch (
Radio, I believe). AND it only happens if you're in sync with another
player (my case, a SB2 in the kitchen).

7.6 fixes it, but not completely, so after the header, the 2 streams
are about 100ms apart. This is hackable, by delaying the SB2 by 100ms,
but then ALL music is 100ms delayed. Ugh.

As much as I love the touch, and put like 30 hours into helping get
SuperDateTime working on it with CustomClock, I also have a 5 month old
that limits my hacking time. :-)

Anyway, the bug is here:

See Here:

It's working in 7.6 nightlies, but the sync is still 100ms off for some
streams.

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16233

It's worth installing 7.6 if this issue is driving you nuts, and append
to the bug report if it's still out of sync for you, too. :-) Your
configuration isn't supported in any way at all, so might not get much
sympathy from the devs, but it's worth a shot.

Something as simple as changing the display - or a proof-of-concept to

Doing guestures that way would rock, though - wave your hand instead of

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Hmnnn..any reason why my box might have been resealed at the factory??

2010-05-03 Thread plympton

After spending 10 years in high-tech manufacturing, there's a whole host
of reasons to either singly or mass-open boxes of new stuff. Don't
sweat it - a factory seal is a factory seal.

Sending it back just puts you in the pool of open-box disappointments -
1% DOA, .5% scratched, (whatever), etc..

MY guess was for firmware update prior to shipment. The Touch was
really delayed, due to software. There were probably a bunch that were
made risk-shippable to keep the factory running, and someone
determined the risk was too great, so a pallet or 2 needed to be
reflashed.

Put it this way - your unit's been through extra QA! :-)

Just checked. I am using the touch skin full-time, as I like it better.
But this is the Touch skin (WQVGASmall, to be exact), so it doesn't
touch the IR skin at all.

The different skins are completely hard coded for the most part, so
it's a lot of trial-and-error changing values, etc.

PS: Erland tells me this patch might be 7.5.1+ only, as it failed on
his 7.5 machine. Buyer beware, you get what you pay for, etc.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch UI Questions (fixes?)

2010-04-21 Thread plympton

Got my touch last week, and been playing with it - overall, very nice,
though some things are a bit odd.

1. Is there a reason that volume control should be slower than on a
Classic? It just seems like it takes forever to go from full - half
volume, say. Like when the keyboard repeat rate is too slow. Any fix?
I'm running the 7.5.1 nightly, so that could be part of it, though it's
not happening on the Classics I have, and the Touch is literally a
matter of a few feet from the server.

2. Is there a way to disable Repeat on the UI? I seem to fat-finger
the next song button and keep hitting the Repeat button. Any guidance
on where/how to change that on the skin?

I'm tossing the idea around of getting an skin like I have on my iPhone
(www.bestskinsever.com), but I'll probably get one that covers the whole
front of the device. I've got a 3-year-old who loves to tap-tap-tap on
my gizmos... !

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch UI Questions (fixes?)

2010-04-21 Thread plympton

I'll post my experience here just in case others are curious and don't
want to experience my pain. :-) I'm sure there's an easier way.

The files you want to modify are on the Touch itself, not the server.
This is new for a SB3 hacker like myself. You need to enable
SSH/Remote login from the UI.

From there, I've found the Touch applets are located in:
/usr/share/jive/applets/

I've modified the
/usr/share/jive/applets/NowPlaying/NowPlayingApplet.lua with this:

local repeatModes = {
mode0 = 'repeatOff',
--  mode1 = 'repeatSong',
--  mode2 = 'repeatPlaylist',
}

This changes the UI - the button won't respond to a touch graphically,
but it still changes the repeat mode itself.

What you need to do is comment out the push action (-- is a comment
mark in Lua - egad, not ANOTHER language to learn! :-()

self.repeatButton = Button(Icon('repeatMode'),
function()
--Framework: pushAction(repeat_toggle)
return EVENT_CONSUME
end
)

This disables the button on the GUI, but keeps it working on the
remote.  1.  Small.  Victory.  :-)

You also need to reboot between changes as far as I can tell. This
will make hacking rather tedious - any way to re-launch an Applet
without rebooting? I ended up hacking away on Squeezeplay since it's
almost instant reboot on my PC.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch UI Questions (fixes?)

2010-04-21 Thread plympton

With local pushes, it goes from the screen, and Lua interprets it
locally, sending the result to the server for processing.

With the remote, the hardware takes in the IR code, sends it to the
server for processing, which sends the result back to the Touch for
display updates? Essentially a 2nd wireless hop back to the touch
before the display gets updated?

OK, I'll take it to the SqueezeOS area now.. :-)
