My Touch is connected to a Topping E30 via coax and it also doesn't

It works but I found that when the sampling frequency changed between
tracks or radio stations the DAC became silent. I had to toggle between
DAC inputs to get it to play again. On the other hand it works fine
using SPDIF. I now have a Raspberry Pi feeding the USB and the Touch
feeding the coax.
The DAC comes with a USB cable which looks cheap but works fine.
I use a Samsung phone charger. I initially tried a rechargeable USB
power pack but couldn't tell the difference and recharging was a pain.

Topping E30 late last year. There is nothing in the test results from
Audio Science Review that would suggest they should sound different as
although the V-Dac has poorer results than the E30 the differences
should be inaudible. Yet I am pretty sure they do sound different. If I
turn the amp to maximum volume with nothing playing there is noticeably
less noise from the E30 but at normal levels it wouldn't be noticeable.
This impression is not based on blind volume matched tests just general
observations from playing familiar tracks. I did also change from a
Touch connected via Coax to a piCorePlayer connected via USB but I also
tried the Touch into the E30 using both USB and Coax and couldn't tell
the difference. My main reason to try the E30 was to try asynchronous
USB connection and the change from Touch to Pi was purely because I had
an issue where the DAC would fall silent if the sampling rate changed
and only recovered if I toggled inputs. That was obviously going to be a
PITA so the Pi took over with the added bonus of being able to play DSD
files natively.

"Audiophile honeymoons may end with a bad
settlement, but on occasion...
After an ambivalent involvement with the original yggy, selling it,
slumming with squeezebox touch, behold, Qutest on a trial $ back basis
has been gracing my system for 2 wks. My modest digital train is
Imac-SBT/EDO/LMS-usb regen-Qutest, feeding unbalanced pre/amp/big spkrs.
It's all about synergy. Yggy just never clicked. I didn't want to go
down the regenerate/repower rabbit hole which might have modified yggy
sound to something I wanted. I have a thing for black, and visually was
tired of the yggy military surplus ambience, so enter a cool black brick
with Toys R Us ambience. Another poster memorably said the Chord2Qute,
the qutest predecessor, is amazing for what it does w/o extras.
Improvable, yes, but almost there from the start.
Immediately noticeable was a vastly improved
soundscape, sounded bigger because it wasn't
hugging the left spkr. Ambient cues popping
like never before. With Yggy and Wyred4Sound
a lot of music was rendered so some elements
, often bass, sounded disjointed, not in the same room. Vocals on both
these dacs in my system were often back in the mix with a too low
relative volume that mushed lyrics. No doubt these dacs excel in other
systems. I suspect that often balanced dacs sound best in balanced
systems.
Initially the highs and mids had a mysterious
intoxicating quality; vocals were big and emotive, bass was an
afterthought; after 4 or 5 days and inserting a usb regen the music
attained a balanced cohesion and BASS came home and sealed the deal.
Call it tone, emotive impact, whatever; my system has never had this
level of foot tappin enjoyment, nevertheless, I'm glad I have 2 more
wks. to be surer."

Did you download the kernel for EDO? There are experimental kernels
available for certain DACs but I think the details and some of the
kernels are lost in time.
It will be interesting to hear your impressions of the Qutest.

I use the patch on the Radio and like you say it works perfectly there.
On the Touch I use the "screen off" screensaver and often find the
backlight on when the screen should be off. Waking the screen and
allowing it to turn off again turns the backlight off. The same thing
happens with the Controller. I wonder if this is fixable in the
community firmware.

at all sample rates and DSD. I have picoreplayer connected to USB and
the Touch connected to Coax and switching between them I can't tell the
difference.
DSD works on WiFi on the picoreplayer.
So do I use the Touch on coax or the pCP on USB or synchronise them and
use the Touch as a now playing screen? [emoji3]
Did you really have your DAC switching between sample rates when using
USB from the Touch?

Hi Edvard did you ever fix the playback issue between different
bitrates? I see the same thing. I did find that muting and unmuting the
DAC restored the sound slightly more easily than switching inputs but
still not satisfactory. I also couldn't get a DSD64 file to play without
silent gaps.

output. There are some other kernel choices but I have no idea if it is
