[SlimDevices: Touch] 2nd Touch Question
I have now started ripping FLAC to my QNAP NAS and streaming via Touch to my pre/power amp. I am very satisfied with the sound quality. I demo'd the Touch to my wife and told her I plan to ripp all our CD collections and stream via the Touch. She said, 'including my CDs'? I said yes. Then she asked me if I could search for artist name ect and I showed her how. She was so impressed that she asked if we could get another Touch and put it in the kitchen area. We have a pair of bookshelf speakers, dvd player and an old a/v receiver where she can listent to her music. I said of course we can. My question is: 1. we should be able to have 2 SB Touchs, both pointing to the same music folder in my NAS? I don't expect to use the 2 Touch at the same time. 2. I plan to use Wireless for the 2nd Touch. 1st one downstairs is via ethernet. Where I intend to place the 2nd Touch is just 2 meters or so away from my router. Will this be an issue with dropouts with FLAC? If it will, no problem. I have a very good friend who is an electrician and he can setup another CAT5 wall-plate just behindd the cabinets. He was the one who CAT5 my whole house before I moved in. Maybe to prevent any streaming issues via wifi, I might just bite the bullet and get the CAT5 setup. Your thoughts? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 2nd Touch Question
You have a good plan. There is no reason not to expect that your second touch shouldn't work well streaming FLAC. Assuming that you don't have interference issues with WiFi, wireless should work. The only potential issue is that the microwave can destroy your wireless signal when it is running. For this reason, I went to using a powerline ethernet adapter solution for the kitchen. Before havning more CAT-5 run, you might want to do a price comparison. Powerline adapters aren't cheap ($100+ for a pair typically), but it is most likely cheaper than hiring an electrician to run more CAT-5. You can also use both touches at the same time - even sync them together to play the same stuff. You can use the same mysqueezebox.com account on both Touch players. Good luck with your ripping project. I had the job of ripping my CDs, my wife's CDs, and also my kids (ages 1, 3, and 6). Fortunately nobody else in the house has as large a collection as me :-). -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch. Rgds Patrick 1) Yes - and you can play different selections or synchronize them - your choice. 2)Try wireless first. I have the same setup and my kitchen Touch is about 30' and one floor away from my access point. It works most of the time, but occasionally complains about not being able to connect. That said, wired is always best if you can arrange it. 3) Yes, you can manage any number of players on mysqueezebox.com - just give them different names. Yes, you can have more than one. You could also toss in a Radio or Boom if the builtin speakers are more fitting for your usage. 2. When I setup the touch for the first time, I had to log into mysqueezebox.com. Can I have 2 SB Touchs and use the same mysqueezebox.com account? Yes, and that's the best way to do it. Maybe to prevent any streaming issues via wifi, I might just bite the bullet and get the CAT5 setup. You could but 2M isn't that far for wifi in most cases. There are certainly extremes (like a big steel woodburning stove would be problematic) but thats still a pretty short distance. Again: Squeezeboxes breed. Don't you need something for the bedroom so you can go to sleep and wake up to music? That is the sheer evilness of the design -- it encourages breeding. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81633 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 2nd Touch Question
Thanks for all the replies. I already have setup a small hifi of a pair of bookshelf speakers, dvd player and av receiver for music etc in the kitchen. I'll just hook the 2nd Touch into the receiver. I'll go for wifi first. If I have issues, then I'll call my friend to do CAT 5. I will only have to pay for parts so this will be cheaper then the powerline option or I might have a chat with my friend and go CAT 5.
