Alternative firmware? Is one of the trimmed down debian versions
available for your LS? That's what I've used when I used to run SBS on
older LSs. That could resolve both the safe mode limitation and the
outdated version problem.

2011-05-18 Thread RichardLittlewood

I got this reply from Buffalo support:

Dear Richard,

Thank you for your reply regarding your unit.

I checked and I can confirm that plugins cannot be used on the
Squeezebox server installed on the LinkStation.

You can use the normal shuffle, but of course it would not be as the
plugin you are used to use.

I am afraid it would not be possible to run the server in normal mode.

If you require any further support please let us know.

Regards,

Alberto

Buffalo Technology Helpdesk,

This is a bit of a blow. Any ideas on workarounds?

As far as I can see these aren't available when running SBS on the NAS.
Possibly because it is running in safe mode. If you try to enter the
menu item for Soma FM etc it times out. It doesn't ask to connect to
squeezebox.com, which probably means you're right about that not being
required.

Worse, the linkstation is running the SBS in safe mode. So I've lost
the "random mix" plugin I love so much. Any ideas how to get it back?

You would think a "professional" thing like MYSB.com would be able to
support more than one version of firmware in players, eh?

Neither do services like Soma, Pandora, etc. Pretty sure Deezer, too,
though I can't say for sure because it's not available where I am. Just
use them all via SBS running on the LinkStation.

The main reason I wanted to use MSB was to use the internet radio
services like Deezer and Soma FM as well as some of the applications.
You're right, straight internet radio doesn't require it.

Why do you connect to MSB? - you can get all the radio stuff via SBS!

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...

[SlimDevices: Touch] Buffalo Linkstation LS-V1.0TL and SB Touch

2011-05-16 Thread RichardLittlewood

I have an issue with my Buffalo LS-VL1.0TL NAS. I'm running the latest
NAS V1.4 firmware (this has squeezebox Firmware 7.5.1-r9218 embedded).
It runs the server very well (3 tracks and quite responsive, a huge
improvement on the server built into the SB touch) but the server
version is slightly out of date compared to the version used on
mysqueezebox.com.

The effect of this is that the squeezebox touch player needs to reload
the correct firmware every time I change from the mysqueezebox.com
library (currently 7.5.4-r9408). to my media library on the NAS. I do
this a lot gong from internet radio services to my media library.

I think I need a way to update the NAS squeezebox server firmware
independently of the version embedded in Linkstation's updates or I'll
forever be playing catch up.

Any ideas??

rgds
Richard
