Try the Touch wired.
I have no problems playing 24/192 flacs using ethernet, but it hiccups
if I do it on wireless.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Dsd

2020-02-14 Thread DejanM

When I reduced the quality of DSD stream I have got the sound but with
lot of interrupts due to buffering. So it seems that the main issue is
wireless connection. When I look into the strength of the WiFi signal at
the Squeezebox Touch it shows me: 100% !

Does it mean that DSD reproduction is not possible if SB Touch uses WiFi
?

[SlimDevices: Touch] Dsd

2020-02-14 Thread DejanM

Hi,

I am running LMS 7.9.2 under MAC OS Mavericks on Mac Mini. I have
Squeezebox Touch with installed software version 7.8.0. I installed DSD
Player plug-in (latest version is 1.0.1) and I also configured it to use
DSD over PCM. In the advanced-> File Type I enabled DSD playback for dsf
and dff files.

Squeezebox Touch is connected to the DSD capable DAC (Pioneer U-05) with
coax digital cable. On the squeezebox Touch I have installed EDO. Still
I do not get anything but hum (with lot of rebuffering). Does anybody
have any idea what might be the problem here ?

7.7.3 is the latest stable official release LMS. I'm 99% sure that
installing on top will keep all your settings. (I recall accidentally
doing this a while back). But do keep in mind that 7.8 is very stable
and has several fixes in it that aren't in 7.7.3. What sort of problems

Gary, mostly it was with the SB app, on my iPad Mini last night. MOG was
very flaky; like half the time, when I'd pick a song to play...I'd
simply get track info, with no way to play. I also noticed...even on my
own library, and then like half the time with MOG when it wasn't acting
up; it looks like 7.8 has a new feature. That by design, when you pick a
new track to play...rather than just playing the track, you need to pick
whether you want to play track, play all tracks, play now...add
to playlist, etc.

I can see where that's a nice feature...but I'm not sure I dig it. I
really only went to 7.8, because I thought it might allow me to play my
DSD files natively. Here is the quote:

-The 7.8 beta version of LMS supports DSD over PCM (DoP) over Ethernet
(or at least appears to as I don't have a DAC to test it) so the manual
conversion step is no longer required.-

I'm not really versed on the whole DoP, PCM thing; I was just looking
for a way...to play straight .dsf files, without having to wrap them
in FLAC. If that's not possible...what does 7.8 really offer me; and how
do I eliminate some of these quirks?

Thanks

I've noticed the play track, play all, play now, etc options in some
cases now as well, but not in all cases. Frankly, I haven't played with
it enough to figure out why I sometimes see that. I don't think 7.8 is
what's causing your app to be slowlikely something else happening
(maybe using the app after installing 7.8 is slow because 7.8 is
rereading your LMS library or caching artwork, etc. Something that is
temporarily slowing everything down).

7.8 is certainly not necessary. Some benefits off the top of my head:

1. works with SMART MIX plugin
2. has rewritten tunein plugin to do radio search/listing without the
need for mysqueezebox.com
3. rewritten to use podcast plugin to be independent of mysqueezebox.com
4. allows a setting to change the volume of radio/mog/spotify, etc.
streams that don't otherwise have replaygain values (a real benefit if
doing SMARTMIX and mixing tracks from your own library with those from
an online source (like MOG or Spotify)

Being independent of mysb.com at the moment provides no benefit. But
if/when they shutdown mysqueezebox.com those changes will be valuable as
one continues to use LMS and squeezeboxes.

Just try something , if it works it works , if you want speed you
should give as much as possible .
The question is about how you use the computer , what else should be
going on while using the WM .
The optimum depends on the total utilisation of the computer and how
 you prioritise .
And also the resources available on the host machine ?

You dont have to run the VM all the time just start it when you want
 to use it .

Hi John, yes it is confusing a bit. I have found this Matrix DAC on the
DSD Database
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgVhKcl_3lHfdFVyenBBNjNpQ2lieG81WGpqQTNfVUE#gid=0
According that database even its digital inputs can handle DoP. I have
asked the Chinese main office from Matrix Audio for this. Their reply
was: I'm sorry, the digital inputs of X-SABRE can not handle DoP
format, it can handle DoP format via USB only.

Well, the USB connection is the first choice. I already could test the
USB-DAC from the Oppo 105 with the SBT. It worked out of the box, to
my surprise. The Matrix DAC is on the way to me. Hope to get it on
Thursday.
I will be reporting if it works!

Wow! Thanks John! That was really new to me. I was dreaming of the LUMIN
but with the SBT + EDO, a suitable DAC is all I need! I just ordered the
Matrix X-Sabre DAC. USB connection should work, thanks to the XMOS
chip.
After reading about this DoP, I remembered about the DTS and AC3 files
in FLAC container I still have from my former multichannel times. I
could stream them with my old SB Classic to the AV-Receiver. That is
really genial via DoP, also because of tagging. Can not wait to get the
DAC! I already converted a DSD album to DoP. I will see if it works :)

Thanks again for sharing this!

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] DSD downloads from Acoustic Sounds w/ Touch

2013-09-04 Thread JohnSwenson

Actually you CAN play a DSD file through a Touch as long as you DoP
encode it. There are a couple different ways out there to take a DSD
file and DoP encode it which producesa 176.4 WAV or FLAC that you can
include in your files that LMS manages just like any other file. This is
NOT converting to PCM, it is using the WAV or FLAC as a CONTAINER to
store the DSD data.

As long as your DAC is DoP complient and can run at 176.4 (for sure over
USB and maybe over coax S/PDIF) it should automatically sense the DoP
encoding and start using it's DSD output capability with the DoP
stream.

Just make ABSOLUTELY SURE LMS and the Touch are not doing anything to
the data, the volume must be at 100% and replay gain turned off, no
crossfade etc. If anything happens to the bits the DAC won't sense it
as a DoP stream so the PCM DAC will try and play it which will give
massive amounts of noise coming out.

Note that because of this volume restriction you cannot use the SB
volume control, so you will need some other form of volume control,
either inthe DAC or a preamp etc. If you accidently reach for the SB
remote to turn down the volume you will get massive noise.

However, for future reference, could you provide some detail about the
ways to DoP encode a DSD download?

Thanks very much for your explanation. I was not aware that this can be
 done.

At the moment, I have neither DSD downloads, DSD compliant DAC, or USB
 connection.

However, for future reference, could you provide some detail about the
ways to DoP encode a DSD download?

 Regards,

 Guido F.

Following this post, I found russtafarian's post in the Audio Circle
Forum. It details one method of DoP encoding through Foobar that seems
to work for him. Any other method you may have in mind, John?

Thanks,

Guido F.

[SlimDevices: Touch] DSD downloads from Acoustic Sounds w/ Touch

2013-09-01 Thread gellie

I currently have EDO installed on my touch, but only using coax into my
Oppo 105. If I were to download a DSD from Acoustic Sounds would I need
to use the Async USB to play and or take advantage of the full
resolution ? Thanks

Use the Oppo to play the DSD files instead. Either from USB drive or via
Network (smb).

No Mac needed, neither jRiver. All you need is an extern USB disk,
connected to the Oppo. If you have an iPad then you can use the Media
Control HD app.
