Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Ipeng speed

2012-01-06 Thread magicj1

Well I have just picked up an Ipad and loaded the Ipad Ipeng app onto
it. What can I say, WOW, what a difference to my old Ipod touch,
absolutely fantastic, just what I was hoping for.

Cheers Ipeng

Sorry, I still don't understand. What do you mean by key command? I'm
not aware that there is anything where response should depend on
orientation, especially things like menus that are being retrieved from
the server.

I thought about that, too, but he did send me diagnostics mails from

I am using the ipeng App, which I brought from Itunes for £6.+

Key command, I mean when I touch the Ipod's screen to select an
input/option/song on the touch screen.

The best way I can describe this is when I view in portrait mode it's
like using an old 'button' type remote which button is slightly faulty.
Like a faulty button I have to position my finger over the song/album
until it recognises my input, where as in landscape mode this is not as
much of a problem.

May be my 'sausage' fingers are just to large for the ipod touch
screen?

As well as Itunes, which I now understand why Itunes is more
responsive. I had the mediamonkey app for my Ipod, and this was more
responsive than Ipeng.

I understand why Itunes is more responsive now.

I got my Squeezebox touch from a guy who was selling it due to the fact
he found it not as responsive as he liked, he is now using Sono's which
he finds so much more responsive the the SB/Ipeng, why is this?

Sorry, key for me means a key on the keyboard, hence the confusion. I
didn't understand the connection to command.

With the command is recognized but nothing happens, do you mean the
row turns blue but no new menu page appears? In this case you should
probably tap the row shorter but in this respect iPeng really should
behave just like the iPod App.

The one thing where the iPod App is probably faster is scrolling.

Yep, that's exactly what I mean.

I will try as you suggested and see how I get on.

Did you send the mail twice? You did not write anything in it so it's
abit hard to distinguish, but I think I've got you. You are on iOS
4.2.1, right? This also fits a 2G iTouch.

Admittedly, iPeng will not be as fast as on a newer generation hardware
on a 2G iTouch. The hardware is pretty busy with the iOS 4 alone and
iPeng does use a bit more resources than iPod because it has to manage
a larger library, decode the communication with the server and it uses
larger artwork. The iPod App also is the one App that does _not_ use
the iOS SDK maybe that helps it with having a better performance, too.

That said, except for startup- which can indeed take up to 15s on this
device it should respond immediately and scrolling should also not be
too slow.
Response times of menus coming from the server should be generally 1s
unless there is a delay on the server side.

Could you give me more details about the behavior you are seeing?

Hi, yes I did send it twice, 4.2.1 correct.

When you select an album then hold down over a track to enter 'Song
info' I find that when viewing in 'potrait' the keys are not very
responsive, it's a bit hit and miss if this will work, (I am unable to
enter 'song info) however, if I view in 'landscape' the response is
quicker, still a slight delay, but it generally enters the Song info
page.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Ipeng speed

2011-08-28 Thread magicj1

Hi.

Is there anyway I can speed up the Ipeg interface with my SBT. Last
night I found it a little sluggish at times. And knowing how well the
Ipod 'worked' with itunes, surely I must be able to get it working as
quickly as that?

It communicates with your server or mysqueezebox.com

So speediness in many views depends on these

Which iOS hardware and OS version is this?

Mnyb is right, iTunes has all the data on the device, iPeng has to read
it from the server.
Have a look at the FAQ on penguinlovesmusic.com (there's a link in
iPeng under help, too), there are some performance considerations
written there.

Right, I see.

version 7.6.1

I have been streaming from my office PC which uses windows xp, I will
try with the HD connected to my HTPC, this uses W7.

I also had nearly all but one of the Ipeng's setup options on, I guess
this will not help things either.

7.6.1 should be pretty fast. The server also sounds fast enough unless
its perpetually rescanning. Again: which hardware is iPeng running on?

How big is your current playlist?
