Recently, bestbuy.com (US) were selling an external 1 terabyte HD for $79.99, while bestbuy.ca (Canada) had the exact same HD for $129.00. And the US and the Canadian dollar are pretty much on par these days (fifty bucks more in Canada?!? What kind of a fishy conversion rate is that?) In the > light of such, what are your suggestions based on? A hunch? Maybe Logitech (and many other companies, including Sonos) can deliver in Canada at the same price but instead _choose_ to charge a higher price. Why? A perfectly good and common explanation is that Logitech thinks Canadians are less price sensitive than their neighbors to the south when it comes to SBs. If they're right about that, then the sales they lose by pricing SBs higher are more than compensated for by the extra revenue gained on the units they do sell. In the US it's the opposite -- they profit more from selling higher volume at a lower margin. It's called demand elasticity, and it's not a hunch. Maybe for the other unnamed products you refer to the demand curves in the US and Canada look the same. If that's the case, _and_if_ the company can supply both markets at comparable costs, then it makes sense for the company to sell at similar prices on both sides of the border. Like Goodsounds says, if you're not happy with Canadian pricing, vote with your wallet and look elsewhere. That will show Logitech that Canadians are price sensitive. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78389 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

If Logitech is not one > such company, I - for one - am happy to forego any further purchases > from them. I'd suggest that in addition to having little to do with exchange rates, it also has little to do with either intelligent practices (as you would define them) or efficiency. Since forever, my UK colleagues and friends have complained that US and UK prices for consumer goods of all sorts are the same in numerical terms. Something that cost £500 could be purchased in the US for $500. This was true even when £1 = $1.75 or more. I've heard the same thing said of Euro zone prices compared to US prices. The difference is far too great for VAT to be the reason. In my experience, this is no more true with Logitech's products than for most other consumer products. Squeezebox products seem to be very successful in Europe and elsewhere despite prices consistently higher than in the US. If you're unhappy with the Canadian marketplace, then you should do as you suggest, buy other products. -- Goodsounds Goodsounds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78389 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

magiccarpetride;545301 Wrote: > That's cool, but how come I can't order that product from the vendor's > US site, only from the vendor's Canadian site? Because that would make the people who work in the vendor's Canadian operations very unhappy. If they get unhappy enough then they entirely drop the SB line (or any similar product where the price is undercut). Then who's going to handle the bilingual French/English retail boxes? Dividing up sales "territories" is as old as the hills, whether it involves international boundaries or not. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78389 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
