Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Network Attached Drive?
I also hoped that I could use my NAS as storage :( But the other way around - the Touch acting as NAS - would be ok as wll :) But how does it work? How do I connect to the Touch and upload my music files? I have dowloaded the Squeezebox server to my computer but I do not know what to do next... PS. I am completly new to Squeezebox. You realize that a network disk is much slower than an USB drive. Then home user use NAS's boxes that are even slower than that, they barely reach 10mB. Yes the NAS can have 100/1000 Network adapter, but the speed reached when handling files is limited by CPU so these tiny NAS boxes are not close to that spec at all, but gigabit ethernet looks cool in the spec sheet. That leads to this: Scanning against a network drive is very slow even for a fast server. But Touch is not exactly Quad Core 4mHz machine ;) so it's a slow server. Slow+Slow+Slow is what ? really slooow. Logitech can not sell that kind of user experience, it would be horrible. But I am hardwiring everything as my router, Network HD and Touch are in close proximity to each other. I don't think I'd have major problems. As it was, in some preliminary testing, I was unknowingly running SBS on my Macbook Pro, pulling tracks off my network HD and I guess back to the router, then to the Touch. I had no issues. I can't imagine it choking that bad, if at all, if someone were to use MP3s instead by cutting out the computer entirely.
