Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch and web-interface
Wow, that's a really great device. I'm gonna have to look into that further, especially if Marvel really does bring the price down to $49 in the future. -- crazyj crazyj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34883 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74808 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch and web-interface
Another option is a sheevaplug, it costs $99, and runs SBS very well. Its a small device that looks like a wall wart power supply, except it has an ethernet connection and USB port. You can plug the USB into the "plug" and connect a wire to a router and you are up and running. It takes a big whopping 3 watts. The 770 skin is great on the sheevaplug. I dunno how any of those digital frames work... I've been tempted to take an old laptop (AMD K6-450!) and rip it apart to make a decent frame. Shouldn't be too hard to convince it to be a giant picture frame and can have it fetch images all by itself (current playing album art, prioritize by player.. ie, show living room unless nothing is playing there, then grab bedroom, etc... and if no players are on, grab some other random image..) But that's been on my list of projects for ages. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74808 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I suppose I would have known that if I had read the basic features list, huh? I'll try to turn my brain on before posting next time. The non-transcoding shouldn't be an issue, as I plan on using FLAC exclusively. If the Maemo thing develops, I could probably pick up a couple of N800s (hopefully they have better battery life than the N770), rather than trying to send something to a digital picture frame. -- crazyj crazyj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34883 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74808 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

We might be lucky and see a Maemo port of Squeezeplay in the future now that it's license has changed. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32012&page=3 -- signor_rossi signor_rossi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11941 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74808 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch and web-interface
I guess my reasoning for avoiding a small pc and the touch: the touch was going to be a simple stand-alone, that did what SB3 couldn't - plug a drive in, play music, no computer/server running. And it will, but I guess my complication is that I really wanted it to extend to a whole home audio solution. If I could add displays, remotes, etc, it would still just run without a pc. Now, ipeng seems to have gotten around the whole webUI, so I suppose it is possible to do. Any idea if there's a way to build in code to send album art to a wifi digital picture frame ;-) Alternatively, I guess I could break down and get a couple of iphones or ipod touches. One other question that I've had on my mind - if I connect another "dumb" client to the Touch (be it SB3 or receiver, etc) will the Touch be able to serve seperate music to each, or does it only single stream (in sync)? -- crazyj crazyj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34883 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74808 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch and web-interface
You are correct that the N770 skin for SBS's web interface will not work with TinySBS because TinySBS doesn't support a web interface. But it's going a little overboard to say that the Touch is "just barely powerful enough to turn on" SBS. Serving up those web pages is more demanding then you might think. Ask anyone who runs SBS on a NAS and they'll tell you the worst part of the experience is using the web ui, even though the NAS is capable of streaming FLAC files reliably to several SBs. As for your alternative of getting a small PC to run SBS for the Duet receivers, why not get the small PC and the SB Touch? If you run SBS on the pc then you'll have the usual web interface, including the possibility of using your N800 to control the SB Touch. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74808 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch and web-interface
So the last word I heard was that the Touch TinySC will not support the web-interface that SC uses. If that is the case, can I assume that the Nokia N770/N800 plug-ins/skins will not be working? I had intentions of using the Touch and ditch the IR remote for the N800 to use as a "Controller" type remote. I know that the ipeng app still works, but maybe I'm just a bit anti-mac (and cheap). Also, I thought about using a couple of wi-fi digital picture frames to tune in to the web-interface to display the album art, etc. using a little linux code to take snapshots of the web-interface, but I get the impression that the embedded computer in the Touch is just barely powerful enough to turn on, let alone run other bits of code. Would it be smarter to cancel my Touch pre-order and get a couple of Duet receivers and run them off a little pc, and an n800? (I'm hoping to set up some type of dual zone eventually) Or perhaps ditch all the logitech stuff and just make an htpc with some sort of dual zone outputs... Thoughts? -- crazyj crazyj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34883 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74808 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
