No, I haven't tried wired connections cause in my case it kills the

 Mike.

Temporarily wiring players and/or server is only to see if WiFi is
causing the issue so you don't end up chasing the wrong problem.

Ex: if you were having problems with your home phone the problem could
be
- phone itself
- wiring inside the home
- wiring outside the home
- phone company issues

The easiest way to determine where the problem is (and who's
responsibility it is to fix) I would suggest taking a wired phone and
connect it to your outside phone utility box and make a call. If the
problem goes away then you know the issue is inside the house (your
problem). If the problem persists then the issue is likely outside the
home (phone company problem).

Point being, I'm not suggesting you now make all calls standing outside
your home at the utility box. I'm only suggesting you do so temporarily
to help diagnose the problem and hopefully eliminate several potential
trouble spots. :)

Don't get me wrong. I'm not against wires. I would say I love them,
especially interconnects and acoustic ones ;)
To be serious I thought that squeezplay is a sort of remote control
which sends just control signals to the Touch, so in terms of bandwidth
it consumes almost nothing. I have no problems with internet radio, my
Touch and laptop report an ecxelent level of wifi signal and and I
don't suspect my wireless. Of cause I can find a hank of CAT 6 UTP and,
and you know I'm already close to idia to install additional 1Gb switch
in my hi-fi rack, as all new BD players want to be wired as well. :)

Yep, do NOT choose synch players. Simply use menu item
Choose Player to select the TOUCH as the player you are controlling.
You're trying to use Squeezeplay as the CONTROLLER, not as another
player. p.s. If choose player is not on the main menu, you can use
settings in Squeezeplay to add this to the main menu.

What type of files are you playing (FLAC?). Use of SP as controller

odd. And you are saying that if you simply use the TOUCH screen to start

Not sure why SP as controller could contribute to this. Of course using
WAV files is probably a bad idea for a lot of reasons, but that's been
beat to death on this forum and others (search if interested). This
said, using SB as controller shouldn't make using WAV any worse.

[SlimDevices: Touch] WiFiRemote possible with Touch+USBdisk

2010-06-02 Thread bantenjesh

Hi,

I am trying to control my SB-Touch via a nokia (or whatever-)browser.
As I understand it's possible by going to
http://192.168.x.xx:9000/handheld

But on my (nokia)browser I only get a white screen.

Is it or is it not possible to remotecontrol a Touch (with the music
on
an attached usb-drive)? And if so: what do I do wrong??

(I also tried portforwarding, but nothing works)

Thanks

The Touch doesn't have a web interface. You can only use Apps that use
one of the native interfaces to control it over WiFi. Or you need to
use a full-scale server on another machine.

I think the idea here is to contact the Squeezebox Server page at port
9000.
On that webpage you can selectand control any player...

If the Nokia is a web-enabled an it can hook up to the local netword
via WiFi. If all firewalls are open/allowed it must be possible just
like any other device.

Same way like I can control via my wifi connected laptop (?)
Nrvrt tried http://servver:9000/handheld page though...I would like to
see that on a regular browser first...

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] WiFiRemote possible with Touch+USBdisk

2010-06-02 Thread JohnSwenson

Using the port 9000 interface will only work if the Touch is connected
to an external server, so it will not work with a USB drive connected
directly to the Touch, which uses the internal server.

There IS a port of squeezeplay to maemo (the OS on the n800-n900 series
devices). This can be used to control the Touch no matter what is is
connected to. I haven't tried it yet, I really should though.

So if you have a maemo device (770, n800, n810, n900) you can probably
use squeezeplay on it.

Squeezeplay is the player software on the Touch itself, so the maemo
port should look and work identically to what you see on the Touch.
