Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] sample rate issues
Thanks for your input guys, still have not really got to the bottom of it but if you set WinAmp to fastest encoding as opposed to best compression it works. -- Toad Toad's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40807 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82418 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] sample rate issues
This is another indicator (but not proof) pointing to Winamp using a non-standard FLAC encoder (possibly 'Flake'). See http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39325 and http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=287917 I suggest you do yourself a favor and rip using a program that uses a genuine FLAC encoder. Something that also does secure ripping and/or AccurateRip would be best. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82418 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Mnyb;580742 Wrote: But thats not the issue as CD is 16/44.1 Unless, of course, someone has 'helped' and told flac to encode at some other bit rate... flac will happily convert 16/44.1 to 24/96... which will do two things: create larger files and corrupt fidelity (ie, it won't sound better, even though 96 is better than 44.1, the extra bits are made up from thin air), neither of which is considered beneficial. If your source is CD, the sample rate should always be 16/44.1. It is not disappointing, it is reality. If you want a higher sample rate, you'll need to source something other than CD's on any player. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82418 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] sample rate issues
Hi Gents thanks for your feedback but the mystery continues. I do not seek a higher sample rate than what is native to the CD, the Flac encoder is the standard WINAMP version and as far as I can see you cannot vary the rate, even if there is some way of doing this I am not, therefore all my tracks should be the same rate, so In theory I should either be able to play none, or all .. -- Toad Toad's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40807 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82418 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] sample rate issues
Depending on your version of winamp the standard WINAMP version may not be up to FLAC standards. See this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45998. Your specific symptoms are different, but given that Winamp has been known to use non-standard FLAC it's at least worth checking out. I suggest re-ripping with another program and see if the problem disappears. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82418 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] sample rate issues
WinAmp is a great program for many things, but ripping is not one of it's strong points. If you want to get serious about your lossless music then you need a serious ripper with great error correction and standardized formats. Two examples of well known and well thought of ripping programs: EAC - great, free, not very intutive. dbPowerAmp - great, very intuitive, but not free. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82418 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] sample rate issues
I have a duet unit and use Winamp to import my CD's using FLAC, on some imports I get a message on the Duet handset telling me that it is an unsupported sample rate when attempting playback. I have read the the processor within the Duet head unit does not support 24/96 only 24/48, which although disappointing is fine if consistent, my question is why do I get this message on some but not all CD's when trying to playback given they were ripped using the same program ? -- Toad Toad's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40807 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82418 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

But thats not the issue as CD is 16/44.1 But winamp has a lot of different flac plugins ? and is not using the official flac.exe or dll but something else ? or has this changed lately ? That for exampel have compression settings beyond the official software . Can someone with recent winamp experience chime in :) it was years since i tried it. So what is your compression settings for flac -8 or -5 is ok I would use -5 . Harder settings do work on computers but portable players or squeezeboxes could get into trouble . Rip with EAC or dBpoweramp maybe ? and use -5 compression. Why is it only a problem on some files , hmm may depend on the music actually ,how hard it is for the squeezebox to decode it. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE for the rear ch.
