Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 'connection refused' by squeeze server

2011-06-07 Thread jgoor

Problem Solved.

It occured to be related to my Svaesoft Alchemy v1.0 router software on
my Linksys WRT54Gv2.

I first tried to do some extra portforwarding and hassling with
iptables but nothing worked. Then I flashed the damn thing with Tomato
v1.28 and the thing wasn't damned anymore!

Thanx everybody!

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 'connection refused' by squeeze server

2011-06-06 Thread jgoor

New info: when connecting to a server directly, without my wireless
route/firewall in between, it works.
So there is no firewall issue on the linux server.
The router is a Linksys WRT 54G V2 with Svaesoft Alchemy v1.0.
This seems to be the problem since it is known to not forwarding port
9000 traffic.
..Damn..

Hmm DDWRT or Tomato or some other router fw ? Don't know what the V2
can take , got a 54 GL with tomato fw myself.

I'd check router settings first before installing third party FW. Try
disabling the routers firewall see if it then allows the connection.

yes turning off UFW does not disbale the firewall itself.

Knowing that Softsqueeze did and does work, can it be something is
wrong with the Touch?
Or are there some issues with eg. the squeezeboxserver...?

AFAIK it can connect to squeezecenter.com. I downloaded apps so that
works. I also can listen to internet radio.

Update: I installed squeezeboxserver on a linux laptop. I shows up on
the display and I can connect to that server.

I thought it might could have been something to do with mysql. I set a
rootpassword on that. But when I removed that the problem stayed the
same...

What I meant to say what that most(all ?) Linux do have the firewall
enabled by default. And ufw is just a tool to handle it so i suspect
that you actually have the fw on.

Start ufw and set the exceptions or as a test just disable it.

Check your firewall settings in Ubuntu. It needs to be open for traffic
on ports 9000 (tcp) and 3483 (tcp udp). You should be able to restrict
this to your local network if you desire.

softsqueeze are you running it on the same machine ? Then the firewall
is not involwed.

UFW is only a frontend for iptables, the firewall is on UFW is used to
configure iptables.. ?

 EDIT:
 root@slarti:~# ufw status
 Status: inactive

Ubuntu by default has no firewalling.
I guess this will not be the problem

Does your home network have a router? You might check that.

Is the SoftSqueeze player on the same machine as the server or a
different box?

Are you using the router's DHCP for IP assignment? You want consistent
use of addresses within your network.

I'm a Fedora Core user (which comes with the firewall turned on), so am
not familiar with Ubuntu beyond general Linux basics.

Softsqueeze is on a different machine.
I do use a router but since softsqueeze works properly I maght assume
the router will not be an issue...?

Nice to know: I recently moven from the Roku Soundbridge. That used to
workt in exactly the same way. The only difference may be ports.
