I totally agree. It is more important to look at what the cable merits. For example, Optical struggles to go above 24/96 so not really a long-term platform for hi-res stuff. Also, only hear good things about Blue Jeans cable so I second that recommendation. squiggywidggy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58391 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97411 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox touch downsampling ?
A 44.1/16 wave file has a bit rate of 1,411kbps. FLAC, of course, losslessly compresses that, usually reducing the file size to 40-60% of the original. So the bit rate you are quoting is par for the course and there is nothing at all to worry about. (The actual FLAC bitrate will vary throughout the file.) Search the forum. The 705 is an artificial number reported by Lms. The touch does full 24/96 flac files with no down sampling or compression. garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97411 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox touch downsampling ?
Yeas the reported number for downsampling is a bug it 24/192 is downsampled to 24/96 by SoX and this is totally transparent you can't hear that . Bug howso ? Apparently they never wrote any software routine to fetch the actual avarage rate done by transcoding so they use a place holder with the typical rate of 16/44.1 FLAC . IMO this placeholder could be just transcoded and we would not have this question every 14 days for the last 8 years :) Michael, Andy ? If you are interested there are old treads about how to set up the logs so that you can fetch the choosen transcoders and parameters for the stream Coax or optical ,depends on the equipment ,try both , I'm partial to coax if it works good ,optical have galvanic isolation if that is needed it's going to be the prefered solution . Noise and ground loops can be bigger problem than the digital interface but if you don't have such issues coax is good. For very good coax cable look at http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/digital-audio/index.htm Don't be fooled by audio quest or Kimber or any other silly brand , you can get cables that cost 100 times more that actually performs worse .
