Title:
edges intro fails on rtm krillin 112

Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On rtm krillin image 112, the edges intro doesn't work. After swiping
down from the top to reveal an indicator menu, the bottom-edge
tutorial overlay doesn't appear. However, if I swipe it up anyway,
the final edge overlay appears and I can proceed to use the device.
Only one of the five overlays fails (right, top, bottom, left, tap...
  bottom fails).

  This worked in image 109.

Update: Saviq reports it's also failing on 109.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1357321] Re: QNetworkAccessManager doesn't support roaming on Ubuntu

2014-10-16 Thread Lorn Potter
I now have a mako to test on.

As far as I can tell, those patches did not fix this. At leastnow the
bearer backend is mostly working.

Tested with the soundcloud scope tutorial app :) and one I made testing
QNAM/QNetworkConfiguration and friends.

I think the problem is the bearer backend does not find any usable
configurations when connected to mobile data.

Will do more work on the bearer backend...

Forgot to mention, all these patches will go into upstream 5.4, but will
also cleanly apply to 5.3

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382349] [NEW] I did a test run of X Diagnostics

2014-10-16 Thread Arno Versfeld
Public bug reported:

I run X Diagnostics to see what information is provided.
Ubuntu is slow on booting up in spite of a Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz x 8
and 7,7 GiB memory.
My knowledge of the OS is far too inadequate to understand what all the
information means.

I also have a Canon MP540 printer that often hangs in the middle of the last
page of printing.
I also run a Windows XP VM on Ubuntu using Virtual Machine Manager and find
that Windows does not see the printer.
I don't have any problem seeing my home folder on Ubuntu from the Windows side
and I wonder if it may relate
to the problem I have with the printer hanging from time to time.

This printer works perfectly when working from a pure Windows
environment, ie, I boot directly into Windows XP.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1381930] Re: 7digital previews do not play in the scope

2014-10-16 Thread James Henstridge
Adding a bug task for ubuntu-rest-scopes, since that is where the
7digital results come from (the Music page on the dash is just
aggregating them).

Using scopes-client, the data for the audio tracks in the previews looks
like e.g:

  {
"length":209,

"source":"http://previews.7digital.com/clip/39903197?oauth_nonce=96292359&oauth_timestamp=1413518820&oauth_consumer_key=7d7e9ja2evm7&oauth_signature_method=HMAC-SHA1&oauth_version=1.0&oauth_signature=L0xPZSEB2DnM%2BJxrCZMFiv2gPms%3D";,
"title":"01. County Line",
  }

It looks like 7digital performs some user agent sniffing for these URLs,
since requests for this URL with wget result in a 403 forbidden error,
but successfully send the MP3 data if I use a blank or nonsense user
agent. Presumably the in-dash playback is being blocked in a similar
fashion.

So to sum up, the questions are:

 1. what UA does the dash send when it tries to play audio in previews?
 2. If that UA is generic and shared by apps on other platforms, we should
probably change it.
 3. If that UA is unique to Ubuntu, then 7digital is explicitly blocking us and
someone needs to get in contact with them to sort it out.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1340477] Re: The HUD doesn't support scaling on HiDPI monitors

2014-10-16 Thread JaSauders
Hello there. I use 14.04 on my HTPC as a Netflix (Chrome) and XBMC
system (which works exceptionally well might I add). Due to it being a
home theatre system, I ramp up the display scaling quite a lot (2.0). I
noticed the HUD did not compliment display scaling, as mentioned in the
bug report above. To date, this system has only been a regular, vanilla
14.04 instance with whatever updates that come down the main pipe.

After finding this bug report, I enabled -proposed and did a full apt-
get update and apt-get dist-upgrade. I pulled down Unity 7.2.3. Not only
does the HUD now compliment the display scaling, but my mouse cursor is
also adequately sized as well.

Upon initial use, I have found no regressions or issues to report,
however I admit I've only been booted into the system for a few moments
following the update to 7.2.3. Given the HTPC gets a decent amount of
use as we have no cable TV, I'll bookmark this report and comment if I
run in to anything else.

Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and time. It's appreciated by
us users!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382027] Re: Tracks without embedded art do not download the art

2014-10-16 Thread James Henstridge
When I copy this track to my phone, it gets scanned by the mediascanner
and the result from the scope looks like this:

received result: category id=songs
{
"album": "Paris - CD1"
"art": "image://albumart/artist=Supertramp&album=Paris%20-%20CD1"
"artist": "Supertramp"
"dnd_uri":
"file:///home/phablet/Music/supertramp_1979_paris_cd1_School.mp3"
"duration": 321
"title": "School"
"track-number": 1
"uri": "file:///home/phablet/Music/supertramp_1979_paris_cd1_School.mp3"
}

So the online album art service is being invoked correctly, but it
doesn't return any art for the ("Supertramp", "Paris - CD1") pair. If
the file's tags are corrected to use the actual album title of "Paris",
then art is displayed correctly, so this is not a general problem of no
tracks displaying online art.

Can I ask where the file came from or how it was tagged? Was the " -
CD1" suffix manually entered in, or is there some tagger that adds it
automatically?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382307] Re: reply to SMS (via indicator) fails silently if no default SIM is set

2014-10-16 Thread Selene Scriven
** Description changed:

+ Consider this invalid for now... unable to reproduce the issue on a
+ fresh-flashed phone, and by default it actually does ask the user to
+ pick a SIM even when replying from an indicator on a locked phone.
+
+ -
+
In krillin rtm image 112, I noticed that there is a silent failure if
the user tries to respond to a SMS message via indicator if no default
SIM has been set for SMS.

After choosing a SIM in the messaging app, replies via indicator work

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. Connect a removable media to the computer.
  2. On the launcher, click on the "Files" icon.
  3. On the left sidebar, click on the removable media icon or the trash.
  4. Minimize the window.
  5. Click on the "Files" icon.

  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR

  - The Files window to be maximized.

  REAL BEHAVIOUR

  - A new window is opened.

  RELEVANT DETAILS

  - The only way to navigate between windows at this moment is to use
the "control + tabulation" key combination, or to click again on the
"Files" icon so windows are exposed.

  **
   SOLUTION
  **

  WORK-AROUND

  - On the launcher, left click on the "Files" icon and select the
  "unlock from Launcher" option.

  FIX

  - The launcher icon for "Files" to be treated the same way as if it

The pointer barrier event API we've patched in to libXfixes has moved

The barrier events and pointer release API is now in the input lib,
libXi as of version 1.6.99.1 . It should be reasonably easy to port to
the new API: Peter Hutterer's blog post¹ describes how to use it. The
main differences are that you need to add the barrier event mask to
the XI event mask, rather than window event mask, and that it now uses
generic events, so you need to allocate the event data before using it
and free the event data after using it XGetEventData/XFreeEventData.

Bug description:
I left my laptop open and running tonight when away. When I returned
1.5 hours later, my screen was still on, all black except for a white
  mouse pointer.

I locked the screen with the windows+L combo and walked away when the
  lock screen displayed properly.

The "Brightness & Lock" section of the control panel shows "Turn
screen off when inactive for: 5 minutes". Lock is turned on, "Lock
screen after: 5 minutes", and "Require my password when waking from
  suspend".

I didn't suspend, and I manually locked before leaving.

  Thanks

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1380320] Re: [REGRESSION] touchpad behavior broken: left button press delayed if finger is on touchpad

Title:
[REGRESSION] touchpad behavior broken: left button press delayed if
  finger is on touchpad

Status in Unity:
  Confirmed
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a REGRESSION. This used to work fine. I don't know when
  exactly it broke.

Steps to reproduce: Test 1 and Test 2 should both behave the same as
test 2, but test 1 gives nonsense and dangerous results.

  --Test 1--
  - place finger 1 on the touchpad
  - move the finger around while keeping it in contact with the touchpad => the
mouse cursor moves around as expected
  - with another finger 2, press the left button and hold it, while finger 1 is
still on the touchpad, at point "A"
  - (*) move finger 1 around on the touchpad to some other point B, then stop
moving it
  - move finger 1 around again, to point C
  - only then, release the left button

  -- Test 2 --
  - place finger 1 on the touchpad
  - move the finger around as in test 1
  - take finger 1 away from the touchpad, leaving the cursor at point A
  - with another finger 2, press the left button and hold it
  - place finger 1 on the touchpad again and move it around, then stop at
point B.
  - Move finger 1 a bit more, to point C
  - release the left button

  Expected result:
OBVIOUSLY, in both cases, the behavior should be the same. A left button
press should be registered at point A, then a drag movement to B and then C,
and then a button release. If, for example, at point A you hit something
draggable, the result is that you drag it and drop to point C

  Observed result:
  Test 2 behaves as expected
However, in test 1, nothing happens when you actually press the button.
Instead, a button press is registered when finger 1 pauses at point B. That is,
everything behaves as if you had pressed the mouse button at a completely
different place and time than you did. The result is dragging from point B to
point C.

The consequences can be disastrous. This can lead to data loss,
because a click may be registered on a button that delete things, or
the drag-and-move operation that is executed (completely unrelated to
the real action of the user) may be that of moving an object to a
place where you're not supposed to move it (e.g. moving a file to the
  trash or whatever).

This can literally result in formatting your hard drive.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1318008] Re: Core apps .desktop files do not include translated strings

2014-10-16 Thread Leo Arias
Media Player is still not translatable. I'm not sure why the fix by
renato is removing the string from the pot. I'll report a new bug for it
as I can't return the task in this one back to new.

Actually, nevermind... it doesn't happen after the account has been
successfully auth'd, but the issue is about it failing before that
point. I misunderstood.

When we create a trusted prompt session over an application, let's say a
small dialog, and then switch applications, when we switch back to the original
application the dialog is not overlayed on top of the original application. The
program providing the dialog seems happy, and is still running, but visually it
is not there.

We notice this when using the payments UI which overlays ontop of the
dash. In some cases we need to show Online Accounts which runs as an
independent application and causes a switching behavior. When
returning back to the dash the Payment UI is not visible. It also
happens if the Payment UI is visible and you switch applications using
  the right swipe.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382307] [NEW] reply to SMS fails silently if no default SIM is set

2014-10-16 Thread Selene Scriven
Public bug reported:

In krillin rtm image 112, I noticed that there is a silent failure if
the user tries to respond to a SMS message via indicator if no default
SIM has been set for SMS.

After choosing a SIM in the messaging app, replies via indicator work
fine... but until then, replies are silently eaten.

It should probably either prompt for a SIM or give a delivery error.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1379296] Re: unity8-dash should be excluded from app lifecycle management

2014-10-16 Thread Selene Scriven
In theory, this landed and is in rtm krillin image 112... but on 112
I've had unity8 get OOM-killed twice in the past couple hours.

The first time, posclientd basically freaked out (sorry, vague) and
pegged the CPU, and soon afterward unity8 got OOM killed. For that
matter, apport failed too, due to insufficient memory.

The second time, media-hub went into a similar resource-hogging loop and
unity8 got killed... and apport was again unable to get a useful result
due to memory.

So... not actually fixed?

Bug description:
  STEPS:
  1. Install the BBC NEWS app from the store
  2. Go back to the apps scope
  3. Open the bbc app browse about a bit
  4. Click on a video link
  5. let it play for a while
  6. Cycle back to the scopes
  Scopes then restarts

having a lot of apps open my unity8-dash gets contantly killed along the apps
if a certain OOM threshold is reached ... this appears like a system crash of
the UI (even though it is desired killing) from a user perspective ...

checking the oom_score_adj values of all running apps i see that the
dash has the same high value as all other open foreground apps:

  ...
  117960oxide-renderer
  117963oxide-renderer
  117988oxide-renderer

  802 6873webapp-containe
  802 7425webapp-containe
  802 7910webapp-containe

(the full log can be found at http://paste.ubuntu.com/8526308/ ) given
that the dash is one part of our core UI it should be excluded from
app lifecycle management (keeping the same oom_score of 10 as unity8
does) so that only actual apps get killed on high memory pressure.

The networkmanager applet should offer to sort the configured networks
by priorities and connect to the one with the highest priority.

The new logic is:

In the main popup, only show connections that are currently connectable
- eg there is a configuration for this network and the access point(s)
providing this is currently found via scan. Networks that are
configured but where the access point is not present are not shown.

The other, unconfigured scanned networks are in a submenu. Is this an
acceptable prioritisation?

Actually I a meant something different. I want the list of already
configured networks sorted by priority, no matter if they are available
or not. For example I want to put cable network as first. If cable is
available then disconnect wireless. If I have the choice between
Wireless A and B, B is my choice and so on

It's not possible with NetworkManager - the policies the daemon uses are
quite inflexible. The only way you can influence this is to set some
connections as 'never default' (which sucks when the cable connection is
not present) or change the timestamp on wireless connection B so it is
newer than A and NM will prefer it.

It also tries to keep as many 'connect automatically' connections up as
possible so the 'disable wireless when connected to cable' idea is not
possible. Sorry. Please try and convince NM to add client policy
control and then I'lll implement it in the KDE UI.

I'd like to add that I experience a related (annoying) behavior (I am
not sure if I should submit this as bug or here):

If two wireless networks have been configured with autoconnect,
knetworkmanager seems to choose the weaker connection instead of the
stronger - this should be fixed.

Is this also an issue of nm policies? Please advice if I should file a
bug report elsewhere. Thank you!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382283] [NEW] wifi toggle interrupts sound playback

2014-10-16 Thread Selene Scriven
Public bug reported:

Not really sure where this bug should go, but on recent rtm krillin
images (such as 112), turning wifi on/off in the network indicator
causes a brief interruption in music playback.

Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. Start playing a song in the music app.
2. Pull down the network indicator.
3. Toggle wi-fi on or off.

For some reason, this makes the sound pause for a moment.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382278] [NEW] Image #94 on mako / #88 on flo fails to start - mir crash

2014-10-16 Thread ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°
Public bug reported:

Update from #93 to #94 and I get the constant ubuntu spinning logo.
adb shell to device and find unity8, maliit and unity8-dash dying, this is in

Reverting to #93 'fixes' it, and going forward to #94 breaks it again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382071] Re: List of access points is empty after turning flightmode on and back off

2014-10-16 Thread Selene Scriven
This works fine for me if I wait a little bit longer.

When I turn flight mode off, first it reconnects to the preferred access
point, and shows it in the list. Then a few seconds later it shows the
other access points in the list too.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382267] Re: edges intro fails on rtm krillin 112

2014-10-16 Thread Selene Scriven
** Description changed:

On rtm krillin image 112, the edges intro doesn't work. After swiping
down from the top to reveal an indicator menu, the bottom-edge tutorial
overlay doesn't appear. However, if I swipe it up anyway, the final
edge overlay appears and I can proceed to use the device. Only one of
the five overlays fails (right, top, bottom, left, tap... bottom
  fails).

  This worked in image 109.
+
+ Update: Saviq reports it's also failing on 109.

cron truncates commands at 999 characters, then executes them, giving
  no errors or warnings.

I'd prefer that cron NOT run the job, and instead throw an error.

Much less important, it would be nice if the limit were increased.

Worst case actually happened to me, rsync --del output directory got
truncated just right, deleting lots of data. That was fun to figure out.
Length was due to many --excludes.

I suspect that the truncation is related to the MAX_COMMAND value.

As a test case, I created the job:

  * * * * * echo

"a";
  date >>

/home/darxus/tmp/a

Which should create a file in /home/darxus/tmp/ 93 characters long,
but truncates it at 72 characters long.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382252] [NEW] Unity8 needs to support fullscreen surfaces.

2014-10-16 Thread Brandon Schaefer
Public bug reported:

Right now in unity8 the top panel eats up an some of the pixels for the
surface height. So say i request a surface for 540x960, then mir resizes
the surface to 540x921.

This means any application that depends on a WxH will lose an X amount
of H. This hurts games, as they usually depend on a set WxH. If unity8
supported a fullscreen mode where the top panel wouldn't be visable and
wouldn't eat pixels from the WxH.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1316518] Re: [900X3G, Realtek ALC282, Mic, Internal] inverted mic not working

2014-10-16 Thread Steffen
This bug also affects me and I realized today that the internal mic
starts working perfectly when plugging a smartphone headset and the
headset mic does not work at all. So the modes might simply be switched
somehow. Is there any possibility to configure it in a way so that it is
set to the internal mic by default.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382233] Re: whoopsie does not upload UnreportableReason field in crash reports

2014-10-16 Thread Brian Murray
An easy test case for the sending of UnreportableReason on a 14.04
system is downgrade multiarch-support to the version in the release
pocket, while having -updates enabled, and then kill sleep. After the
apport collection process is run you'll see the following in the report:

UnreportableReason:
You have some obsolete package versions installed. Please upgrade the
following packages and check if the problem still occurs:

 multiarch-support

The comment isn't exactly true. apport uses the UnreportableReason
key to include the following information:

It'd be useful if this information was sent to the Error Tracker so

Hello I am using the Nexus 5 development branch (r243) .

I came across the same issue that described above, however i manage to
solve the problem by simple touching the HQ button that can be found on
the screen before you start the video (blue=video+Music, grey=just
Music).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1374481] Re: Nearby and News scope do not load on reboot

2014-10-16 Thread Chris Wayne
As for comment 14, the el jueves scope has been fixed (and also removed
from the image) so that's not affecting anything (also was never part of
Nearby, so would only ever affect News) FWIW is was crashing on closing
down, so it launched and got the content fine, the issue was that go
scopes call SetScopeBase with nil on shutdown, which it wasn't handling
properly

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1380567] Re: Music plays through device's loudspeaker when incoming call received with BT headset connected

2014-10-16 Thread Ricardo Salveti
We don't yet support inband ringtone for BT headsets, so it's expected
for the ringtone to play through the device's loudspeaker. Also, even
when that gets supported, it's still the desired behaviour to also play
on the device's loudspeaker, together with wired/bt headset (which is
not yet the case).

For the music issue, that's covered at bug 1239432.

  Expected result

Download should complete (but music app won't be able to open the

  Actual result

   Unity 8 crashes.

I believe this is being caused by indicator-transfer, as disabling this
indicator prevents the crash from happening. Downloading the same file from a
different server doesn't cause the crash, and neither does downloading
individual mp3 files from 7digital. Only a zipped album, downloaded from
m.7digital.com triggers the crash.

Even with UTC=no, Ubuntu stores the time as UTC at shutdown. But since

[Touch-packages] [Bug 329898] Re: The HP 1018 printer not work out of the box if used non-US locale

2014-10-16 Thread Gannet
Another one example. Today I've been suffered trying to install LaserJet
1000 series on Xubuntu 14.04. The same problem. Only deleting hplip from
system makes possible printer to get it's firmware loaded. Also I should
download its firmware by 'getweb 1000 command'. So there are definitely
some kind of conflict between Foomatic and HPLIP causes printer firmware
not to load.

  find /usr/share -name "*1018*"
  ./foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1018.img

  I:
  - installed hpijs with depends
  - Ran Printer configure tool: a driver for HP 1018 hadn't been found

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382208] [NEW] /etc/default/rcS: UTC=no is being ignored with systemd

2014-10-16 Thread Cavsfan
Public bug reported:

This bug is identical to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/1377698
except it only happens when booting with systemd.

Even with UTC=no, Ubuntu stores the time as UTC at shutdown. But since UTC=no,
it expects the time as local, thus applies no timezone correction, and the time
is 4 hours behind for those in US EST time.
Also the ability to change get time from the internet is greyed out.

Booting with Upstart everything is good.

This happens every time I boot Utopic with systemd.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10
