Title:
multiarch accountsservice moved typelib to wrong path, broke gdm
  greeter

Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Yesterday’s multiarch of accountsservice 0.6.35-0ubuntu3 (bug 1260370)
broke the gdm greeter, making it impossible to log in. From
  /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log:

  (gnome-shell:1981): Gjs-WARNING **: JS ERROR: Error: Requiring
AccountsService, version none: Typelib file for namespace 'AccountsService'
(any version) not found
  @/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/endSessionDialog.js:25
  @/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/main.js:15
  @:1

In order to work around this, I had to symlink
  /usr/lib/girepository-1.0/AccountsService-1.0.typelib ->
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
  gnu/girepository-1.0/AccountsService-1.0.typelib.

As far as I can tell, gir has no multiarch support (see e.g.
http://bugs.debian.org/720071), so the typelib needs to be moved back
into /usr/lib/girepository-1.0 and ‘Multi-Arch: same’ needs to be
  dropped.

Also, I didn't check the box indicating that this was a security issue,
as I don't know what definition you use for that. However, I think it
could potentially qualify.

Looking at the code we are doing a cat /dev/nvram to the apport output file
which doesn't sounds right to me. I would think using the function add_tar()
creating a tar file and copying the content as a ascii file at end of apport
output file more appropriate.
One dummy question remaining, how getting the tar file from the ascii output
file if we need to ? ( that's also true to validate the content of the
DeviceTree tar file).

  Would suggest following patch:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

so I can't easily fix the problem either. :(

Bug description:
The auto-login service for GMail accounts gives "Applications can no
longer access online accounts" error everytime it attempts to connect.
It also cannot sustain connections for other online services
(facebook, yahoo, etc.) and requires me to grant access to the
services again and again. I can confirm my passwords are correct.

Also, granting access to yahoo mail and facebook works flawlessly, but
the GMail 'Grant Access' interface is buggy, and just doesn't work.
On entering password and clicking 'Done' it brings back the same
screen, as though nothing happened. Over and over again. If you click
cancel a few times, it brings you back to the screen with the list of
online accounts, while it attempts to connect to the services, in
vain. Also, overall the friends service is buggy. It doesn't show me
notifications from facebook, nor has it synced events from my google
calenders. I cannot tell you when this problem started exactly,
neither can i guess what might have caused the problem. If you need
some log files, please tell me, i'll upload them asap. I don't have
accounts in many of the services listed there, so i might not be able
to help you with other services. I really hope there's a solution to
this, because its always lovely to see a well polished desktop
  environment :)

Bug description:
  Hi there,

I've been using evolution with address book quite long. When inserting
adresses manually into the recipient field, entries are correctly
recommended by evolution after typing the first letters. But it's not
possible to select one or several adresses after clicking on the "To:"
field when composing a new mail. The main contact list, every category
chosen is simply empty, none of my addressbook entries is shown. So
I'm unable to add or remove contacts to or from the "To:", "CC:" or

I wonder wether this behaviour is due to evolution or evolution-data-

  Kind regards,

  [Impact]

In case of a syntax error in either of ~/.profile or a few other
similar files, the Xorg login is interrupted, and the user is taken
back to the login screen without an explanation. Debugging this
problem may be a time consuming exercise, especially for non-
  experienced users.

With the proposed change, lightdm/gdm does not try to load such a
file, but shows a warning dialog instead. (A warning dialog is also
shown in case of some other type of error, which would not have caused
  the login to fail.)

  [Test Case]

  To reproduce:

  * Edit ~/.profile and add something bad, e.g. a non-closed parenthesis.
  * Log out and find that you can't log in to a graphical session.

After installing the proposed lightdm/gdm version, you'll instead see
the dialog and can log in.

  [Regression Potential]

Since this is only about improved exception handling, it does not at
all affect users with correct configuration files. The regression risk
  ought to be minimal.

  [Original description]

  Binary package hint: gdm

  After adding "function AddPath { PATH="$1:$PATH" }" to $HOME/.profile
made the Xorg startup fail. (At that moment I had already forgotten
the changes made to the .profile). As I had autologin that meant it
kept trying to login and finally showed me the graphics
reconfiguration screen. That sent me to a huge hunt for xorg conf and
  setup problems.

Anyway finally tracked this down. I had used bash syntax in .profile
file whereas it was run with sh.

This is not a bug per se but I think a user mistake in ".profile"
shouldn't bring the whole xorg startup to a halt as it does with
autologin. I propose running user ".profile" and ".xprofile" scripts
so that Xsession script continues running even if they have errors.
I'm not sure whether this change would have some negative effects as
  well.

Bug description:
there is an sha2 module in the openldap source contrib directory which
implements the following sha2 password hashing schemes:

  {SSHA-512}
  {SSHA-384}
  {SSHA-256}
  {SHA-512}
  {SHA-384}
  {SHA-256}

i'd like to have it included in the slapd package.

the module can be found in contrib/slapd-modules/passwd/sha2/

following the standard "make depend" when building openldap, the
module can be built by running "make" in its directory. note that i
had to add -fPIC to CCFLAGS in order to get it to build - e.g:

  CCFLAGS = -Wall -g -fPIC

this may or may not be the right way to do this.

  * Edit ~/.profile and add something bad, e.g. a non-closed parenthesis.

I'm not sure whether this change would have some negative effects as
  well.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383906] Re: [XPS 8500, Realtek ALC887-VD, Green Line Out, Rear] No sound at all

2014-10-21 Thread Brad Triem
Turns out the problem was that in the Sound Settings->Applications,
Rythmbox was muted. As to wether that is a bug, I still think it is
possible because I haven't messed with the sound settings and this was
the first time I tried running Rythmbox.

  Nexus 4:

  version_detail:
  ubuntu=20141016,device=20140929.1,custom=mako-1.1,version=91

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Load some music onto device
  2. Navigate to "My Music" scope in dash (e.g. by clicking the "My Music"
category header in music scope).
  3. Select an artist from the surfacing results

  Observed behaviour:
Standard search results for the artist's name are displayed with small icons
for artists, albums and tracks.

  Expected behaviour:
The special "albums_of_artist" view should be displayed with a full width
result showing art for the artist.

Surprisingly, if I select the same artist result as it appears in the
music aggregator scope, I get the albums_of_artist view. This makes
me suspect that this is a problem in the dash or unity-scopes-shell,
where the department ID from the canned query is being lost.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383905] [NEW] pvmove fails while clvm is in use (Device or resource busy)

2014-10-21 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
Public bug reported:

1. Affected release: precise (12.04)
2. Affected version: clvm 2.02.66-4ubuntu7.4
3. Steps to reproduce:
a Setup:
* SAN server serving 3 drives
* Cluster consisting of 2 nodes
b. Connect drives to the cluster (open-iscsi)
c. Configure clvm.
d. Create PV on all 3 drives. Create clustered VG consisting of 2 of those
drives.
e. Create LV with size > 10GB
f. Create a file on the LV utilizing more space that the size of 1 PV.
g. Extend the VG with the 3rd drive.
h. pvmove on one of the first two drives.

4. What you expected to happen
pvmove succeeds freeing the first selected drive for later removal with
vgreduce.

5. What happened instead:
sudo pvmove -v /dev/sdc
Finding volume group "vg0"
Executing: /sbin/modprobe dm-log-clustered
FATAL: Module dm_log_clustered not found.
/sbin/modprobe failed: 1
Detected pvmove in progress for /dev/sdc
Error locking on node server1: Device or resource busy
Failed to activate lv0

6. Other information: this issue does not affect trusty (and later)
release

** Affects: lvm2 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Bug description:
I'm trying to get a setup with two different Unity desktop sessions
running at the same time. One for the local desktop, one for a remote
desktop. This almost works, except that when starting the second
Unity session, the compiz process that belongs to the first one is
killed because of this code in /usr/bin/unity:

  # kill a previous compiz if was there (this is a hack as compiz can
  # sometimes get stuck and not exit on --replace)
  subprocess.call (["pkill", "-9", "compiz"])

Commenting this line makes both desktop sessions work fine.

This kill is far too harsh. If you want to kill compiz, you should
make sure that you are killing it in the same DISPLAY as the session
that you are about to start, and not just every possible compiz
  process that is running.

Please consider either removing the kill or making it apply only to
  processes in the same DISPLAY.

  [Impact]
Running unity script will kill the unity processes in different displays

  [Test case]
  - Run unity in DISPLAY=:0 and in DISPLAY=:1
  - Launch the unity script in DISPLAY=:1, it should kill and restart only the
unity
instance running in DISPLAY=:1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1191934] Re: orientation wrong in playback for recorded videos

2014-10-21 Thread Selene Scriven
As a sanity check, I checked the file metadata.
'mediainfo' says this about it: Width : 1 280 pixels
Height : 720 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16:9
Rotation : 90?

So, perhaps the rotation tag is set correctly (not sure what the '?' is
about), but neither mplayer nor vlc play it in the desired orientation.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1342208] Re: Scroll wheel uses inverted logic to switch between applications/windows in the switcher

2014-10-21 Thread Christopher Townsend
So, although I don't completely agree with the new vertical scrolling
behavior in the Switcher, I don't think we should block the SRU on this
since this is how Utopic now behaves. I think I will enter a new bug
report about the behavior not being quite what is expected and then
flesh that out. If we decide to switch the behavior back, then we will
get it into another SRU. That said, marking this verification-done.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1303637] Re: scoperunner in RegistryI test fails if locale is not set

2014-10-21 Thread Michi Henning
Problem is still present in boost 1.55:

https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/10641

Realistically, there isn't anything we can do. As a library, we can't

not being thread-safe).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383858] Re: improve click apparmor policy times by using 'no-expr-simplify' parser option for click policy

2014-10-21 Thread Jamie Strandboge
** Description changed:

AppArmor has several optimization options that can be used to help speed
up policy compiles for certain types of policy. Currently, we are using
expr tree simplification option by default, which has dramatic affects
on policy compiles for the evince profile. However, with click profiles
not using expr tree simplification (ie, adding the '-O no-expr-simplify'
- option) can improve click policy generation by 44%.
+ option) can improve click policy generation by 44% (375 vs 210 seconds).

Short term for rtm is to to use '-O no-expr-simplify' when compiling
policy in /var/lib/apparmor/profiles but leave /etc/apparmor.d alone. We
can do the same with click-apparmor.

The long term fix is to adjust expr tree simplification to be more
efficient (at least as fast as without) and drop the '-O no-expr-
  simplify' option.
+
+ Justification: apparmor policy recompilation is not expected to happen
+ as part of the normal user experience (see bug #1350598 for a lot of
+ detail) and it is expected to only happen on upgrades from 14.10 to
+ 15.04 or to fix very serious apparmor or apparmor policy bugs. None of
+ these bugs are currently scheduled for OTA. However, *if* we ever need
+ to fix one of these, policy will have to be recompiled.
+
+ Choices:
+ 1. do nothing for RTM since policy recompiles are expected to be rare, but do
apply this change to 15.04. Policy is expected to be recompiled on upgrades to
15.04 and upgrades would use the new option
+ 2. apply this change in OTA. This is problematic because this change alone
will trigger a policy recompilation that would not otherwise be needed.
Optionally, this change could accompany a severe bug fix
+
+ Risk:
+ The change consists of a small modification to the apparmor upstart job and a
change to the arguments click-apparmor gives to apparmor_parser. The risk
assessment is considered low because of the size of the change and the simple
test case will immediately indicate if either were applied incorrectly.
+
+ Test case:
+ 1. run aa-status | wc -l and note the result
+ 2. install the new apparmor and click-apparmor packages and verify there are
no errors during installation
+ 3. reboot
+ 4. run aa-status | wc -l and compare to '1'
+
+ If they are the same, it indicates the upstart job is properly loading
+ the profiles generated by click apparmor.

** Description changed:

AppArmor has several optimization options that can be used to help speed
up policy compiles for certain types of policy. Currently, we are using
expr tree simplification option by default, which has dramatic affects
on policy compiles for the evince profile. However, with click profiles
not using expr tree simplification (ie, adding the '-O no-expr-simplify'
option) can improve click policy generation by 44% (375 vs 210 seconds).

Justification: apparmor policy recompilation is not expected to happen
as part of the normal user experience (see bug #1350598 for a lot of
detail) and it is expected to only happen on upgrades from 14.10 to
15.04 or to fix very serious apparmor or apparmor policy bugs. None of
these bugs are currently scheduled for OTA. However, *if* we ever need
to fix one of these, policy will have to be recompiled.

  Choices:
  1. do nothing for RTM since policy recompiles are expected to be rare, but do
apply this change to 15.04. Policy is expected to be recompiled on upgrades to
15.04 and upgrades would use the new option
  2. apply this change in OTA. This is problematic because this change alone
will trigger a policy recompilation that would not otherwise be needed.
Optionally, this change could accompany a severe bug fix

  Risk:
The change consists of a small modification to the apparmor upstart job and a
change to the arguments click-apparmor gives to apparmor_parser. The risk
assessment is considered low because of the size of the change and the simple
test case will immediately indicate if either were applied incorrectly.

  Test case:
  1. run aa-status | wc -l and note the result
  2. install the new apparmor and click-apparmor packages and verify there are
no errors during installation
  3. reboot
  4. run aa-status | wc -l and compare to '1'

If they are the same, it indicates the upstart job is properly loading
the profiles generated by click apparmor.
+
+ While these changes may occur separately, landing them at the same time
+ along with a regenerated custom tarball (for preinstalled policy) will
+ reduce policy recompiles.

** Summary changed:

- improve click apparmor policy times by using 'no-expr-simplify' parser

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1191934] Re: orientation wrong in playback for recorded videos

2014-10-21 Thread Selene Scriven
I just tested the rtm krillin silo for this (image 120 + silo rtm-003),
and it doesn't appear to help at all. I'm not sure if the orientation
tag in the videos are getting set correctly (recorded after installing
the silo), but both the thumbnails and video playback are still 90
degrees off. This happens in both gallery-app and the video scope (and
media player).

Status in Unity:

Bug description:
This appears to be a regression in 14.10 sometime in September 2014.

The behavior appears similar to this bug from 2011:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/830348

On resume from suspend, screen contents are displayed for a brief time
(perhaps 0.5 to 1 sec) before the lock dialog appears.

These screen contents are not always the desktop or open application
beneath the lock screen. On at least one occasion, the screen showed
content from a full-screen video that had been playing in Firefox some
time before the computer had been suspended: neither the video nor its
underlying tab were open anymore, so the image(s) was likely part of a
buffer somewhere. (Needless to say, if the wrong full-screen video had
been watched, depending on the setting, this could be a quite serious
  issue for some users).

I have not exhaustively tested conditions in which this appears.
However, just now, the bug did not appear when keeping the lid open,
suspending, and then resuming with the power button.

But when suspending from menu, closing the lid, then opening the lid
and moving the mouse, the screen displayed contents before showing the
lock dialog. The image displayed was of the desktop (with this bug
reporting window) and showed the "suspend" item in the power menu
  being highlighted/clicked.

stuff and will not trust and will resart machine.]

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383858] Re: improve click apparmor policy times by using 'no-expr-simplify' parser option for click policy

** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand)

** Tags added: rtm14

** Description changed:

AppArmor has several optimization options that can be used to help speed
up policy compiles for certain types of policy. Currently, we are using
expr tree simplification option by default, which has dramatic affects
on policy compiles for the evince profile. However, with click profiles
not using expr tree simplification (ie, adding the '-O no-expr-simplify'
option) can improve click policy generation by 44%.

- The proper fix is to adjust expr tree simplification to not be more
- efficient, however, in the short term we can adjust the apparmor upstart
- job to use '-O no-expr-simplify' when compiling policy in
- /var/lib/apparmor/profiles but leave /etc/apparmor.d alone. We can do
- the same with click-apparmor.
+ Short term for rtm is to to use '-O no-expr-simplify' when compiling
+ policy in /var/lib/apparmor/profiles but leave /etc/apparmor.d alone. We
+ can do the same with click-apparmor.
+
+ The long term fix is to adjust expr tree simplification to be more
+ efficient (at least as fast as without) and drop the '-O no-expr-
+ simplify' option.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1371590] Re: Global menu bar snatches defeat from the jaws of victory, à la Windows 95 Start button

2014-10-21 Thread Michael Doube
Hi Stephen,

I had the same thought, but the devices are very different - a laptop with
Intel graphics and a workstation with NVIDIA graphics and two monitors (one
rotated 90°), so it seems unlikely to be just a config problem. Is there
some debug / config info that would help test your idea?

Global menu bar snatches defeat from the jaws of victory, à la Windows
  95 Start button

Status in Unity:
  Incomplete
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
There is a really old usability bug relating to mouse accuracy, which
Ubuntu 14.04 has rediscovered in its global menu.

Basically, it's super easy to move your pointer fast and hard to the
extreme edge and corners of the screen, so you can hit targets placed
there quickly. But the global menu only activates if the cursor is a
pixel or two from the top of the screen. This is a massive usability
  bug.

The example from the 90s (yes, 20 years ago) is that Win 95's start
button was offset from the bottom left corner by a couple of pixels.
That made it hard for people to hit, and if they'd only put it flush
with the bottom left it would have been way way easier to click. Hence
"snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" - e.g. in this post from
  2000 http://www.joelonsoftware.com/uibook/chapters/fog63.html

Hopefully this is an easy fix: extend the mouseover activation area
for the global menu to the top of the screen. Right to the top zeroth
  row of pixels. Please?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383858] [NEW] use 'no-expr-simplify' parser option for clicks

2014-10-21 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

AppArmor has several optimization options that can be used to help speed
up policy compiles for certain types of policy. Currently, we are using
expr tree simplification option by default, which has dramatic affects
on policy compiles for the evince profile. However, with click profiles
not using expr tree simplification (ie, adding the '-O no-expr-simplify'
option) can improve click policy generation by 44%.

The proper fix is to adjust expr tree simplification to not be more
efficient, however, in the short term we can adjust the apparmor upstart
job to use '-O no-expr-simplify' when compiling policy in
/var/lib/apparmor/profiles but leave /etc/apparmor.d alone. We can do
the same with click-apparmor.

Bug description:
With some pictures, on resume from suspend, there is an important
delay before the screen locks (several seconds) or the shutdown dialog
  is displayed which it shouldn't

  Test Case
  1. Upload the attached pictures to the device
  2. Open system-settings and set the attached picture as background
  3. Short press the power button to suspend the phone
  4. Wait a few seconds and short press the power to resume the phone

  Expected result
The phone is locked and the greeter is displayed

  Actual result
On resume it takes several seconds to lock the phone and display the greeter.
Very frequently the shutdown dialog is displayed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383855] [NEW] Inconsistent icons across reboot

2014-10-21 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Public bug reported:

If I have no SIM in the phone and disable wifi; I get a different icon
before rebooting (the cog) than after a reboot (wifi - no signal).

Across reboots, I'd expect to see the same icon in indicator-network --
since the device's state is exactly the same.

I don't think the cog is a very significative icon to convey any meaning
of status for a network; it's more likely to be more significant to
users to display a no-signal icon when we're in a state where there is
no other icon to display (given that indicators need to have an icon
set).

0.png shows my device before rebooting; after disabling wifi.

transfer indicator appears instead of clock

Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
In rtm krillin image 88, sometimes I get the wrong indicator when I
pull down from the top... especially right after flashing or right
after boot. I'll pull down from the upper right corner, and instead
of the clock menu it shows me the transfers menu. If I swipe the
header sideways to change it, the issue doesn't seem to happen on
  subsequent attempts.

Not sure what's going on, but it has been pretty consistent after
flashing. A screenshot is attached. Of particular note is that the
clock indicator is highlighted/underlined even though the transfer
  menu is shown.

After a moment with the phone, the camera-app takes up to one minute
to load. Immediately after a reboot it just takes a few seconds.

When it happens the spinner is spinning for a few seconds, then
everything hangs (UI stops responding, launcher, panel and switcher
doesn't work) and after one minute or so the camera eventually starts
and shell is back to normal operations.

When it starts happening once, only a reboot makes the camera behave
  properly again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1381041] Re: Network indicator is sometimes blank

2014-10-21 Thread Tony Espy
@Antti

I think we should bump the priority of this... if the network-menu is
blank, the user ends up with drastically reduced control over their
device.

Also regarding bug #1381075, as has been discussed on the mailing list,
simply reporting the failed respawns of indicator-network to
errors.ubuntu.com isn't sufficient. We really need to consider some
sort of automatic reboot and/or prompted reboot if/when critical
components fail in this manner.

@Rick

If you hit this again, can you check two things:

1. see if there are any indicator-network crash files in /var/crash, as
Antti has theorized that the indicator has crashed.

2. check to see if indicator-network is still running. A simple 'status
indicator-network' ( as phablet-user ) should tell you the current
upstart status.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare

2014-10-21 Thread Nathan
For me, it turned out that the "Caps Lock as an extra control key" was
the culprit. xmodmap was

xmodmap: up to 4 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lockCaps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Caps_Lock (0x42), Control_R (0x69)
mod1Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd)
mod2Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4Super_L (0x85), Super_R (0x86), Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf)
mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb)

I removed the Caps_Lock (0x42) from the control line and the problem
went away. VMWare stopped flushing my mappings and my keys all worked
the same as before. Somehow my CapsLock is still mapped as a control key
as well.

Bug description:
  [Problem]
VMWare's keyboard mapping is imperfect, sometimes resulting in certain keys
stopping functionality when running under VMWare, requiring the user to setup
their configuration settings manually in VMWare. For a detailed explanation
see the following article:

  http://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/doc/ws_devices_keymap_linux_longer.html

  [Original Report]
After a day or so of running the shift key mysteriously stops working as does
the cap lock. In other words I cannot enter shifted characters of any kind. The
keyboard is connected to a KVM and all other systems respond to it properly. In
additional any VMWare sessions I have open respond correctly. So I have the
condition where all non-vmware applications in Ubuntu Hardy (all updates
applied as of 2008-02-26 at 12:43 UTC) fail to recognize the shift key BUT
applications within an active (a paused/restarted session also works) VMWare
sessions running DO recognize the key.

When this condition occurs ALL applications (except those within a
VMWare session) are also unstable and will usually crash within a few
keystrokes. If I continue to operate in this mode. I cannot pinpoint
what, if any, application triggers this. It has always happened while
working within terminal/browser/vmware sessions and NOT when opening a
new application. It could be related to the KVM switch, but none of my
other systems (2 Mandriva, 1 Windows) are affected by this.

This bug has been present on my system for a number of days across
daily updates and reboots (if the update requested it) and I think
since I installed Hardy Alpha 1.

A work around: log off and back on. A reboot/restart does not appear
  to be needed.

Error logs show some unusual activity.

  --- MARK
  ...
  ... kernel ... rtc lost 7 interrupts ...
  --- MARK ---

Plus some segfaults indicating which application crashed as I tried to
type into it (mouse works fine).

System: HP dv9743cl (which otherwise works lovely)
  Ubuntu: Hardy 8.04 (from lsb-release)

  TEST CASE:
  1. Click inside the VM and

  2. Hold any of the Ctrl, Alt and/or shift keys while releasing the
keyboard/mouse to the host OS (which you obviously do when you press Crtl-Alt
to revert back to windowed mode, as the cursor is then released from the VM).

  WORKAROUND:
After this happens to recover your keyboard execute 'setxkbmap' in a terminal
