[Touch-packages] [Bug 1388339] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel, playback] No sound at all and streaming going hi speed
I reinstalled ubuntu and the same thing is happening. After some browsing on you tube sound is not working anymore and some streaming bargraphs (soundcloud ie) are going twice faster than normal and still no sound. This bug doesn't seem to affect "Mixxx" which is a DJing software. Sound still works with this. Altough I had this message when starting Mixxx: > Carte son occupée Sound card busy > Mixxx n'a pas pu accéder à tous les périphériques audio configurés. > Quitter Mixxx. But the software still play sounds. Not anything else. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1394711] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers
Ok I have run the aforementioned test with the DVI to HDMI cable and no analog sound cable attached and the System Setting Sound dialog set to the HDMI video card sound chip. This does output sound from the test application but the "System Ready" sound still appears to be going out the analog output. To clarify the "latency" problem I have been having using HDMI sound on the video card when the sound test application is run initially the "front left" sound is missing the "front" sound. After this it works fine until the System Settings dialog is exited and reentered then the "latency" problem occurs again. This also causes desktop notifications to be only partially output or not output at all when using the HDMI video card's sound device. This is why I have been using the analog output on the motherboard as the problem does not occur with it.. If you need more information or want me to try something I havn't tried or need me to test a proposed fix let me know and I will do so as soon as I can. Thanks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1394711 Title: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Problem Description: No sound at monitors built in speakers after fresh install of Utopic 14.10 Unity Desktop. Details: After installing Ubuntu 14.10 I had no sound at all from the speakers in my monitor. After troubleshooting I determined that the output from the sound system at the 'green' connector on the motherboard was fine but was not being delivered to the monitors speakers. I then replaced the audio cable from the motherboard to the monitor which did not help. I assumed that the analog input of the monitor had gone bad and removed a HDMI cable from my television and tried using it from the Video Card to the monitor and the sound in the monitor speakers worked(e.g. HDMI with combined Video and Audio signal). I assumed that the analog input in the monitor had gone bad and bought a new HDMI cable and used it from the Video card to the monitor. This did not work well however as I had to disable the audio chip on the motherboard to force the system to use the video card sound functionality to get the "system ready" sound to work. There was also a large latency when sending the sound signal through the video card to the monitor causing the "system ready" sound and "desktop notifications" to be cut off or not output at all. A short time after this I installed the same Utopic 14.10 Unity Desktop onto another computer with a similar monitor and had the same result (no sound through the monitor speakers) and discovered the real cause of the problem. The cause of the problem became appearant on the second install when the "system ready" sound was played but was cut off after a second or so. After this no more sound at all was output to the monitors speakers. For some reason in Utopic 14.10 the sound input in the monitor is being coupled to the video input making it impossible to use the HDMI input for video and the monitors analog input for sound. The audio input is "tracking" the video input in the monitor and the audio input is switching from the analog input to the HDMI input if a HDMI video cable is being used. This lead me to the conclusion that code is switching the analog input in the monitor to the HDMI audio input based on HDMI video being used and this was proven by the fact that a VGA (analog) video cable and analog audio cable/input works fine as well as a combined HDMI video/audio cable working (not quite fine but working) and to the conclusion that someone has coupled the Video and Audio inputs of the video monitor in the software in Utopic 14.10. In short the analog audio input in the monitor is being "switched" to the HDMI audio input if a HDMI video cable is being used reguardless of it actually carrying audio (e.g. in my case a DVI to HDMI cable is only used for video and a seperate analog audio cable is being used to carry the audio signal to the analog input in the monitor). Note that this hardware configuration seemed to work fine in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (e.g. HDMI video and analog audio) and just appeared after the fresh installs of 14.10. Again this problem does not occur if a VGA video cable and and the aforementioned analog audio cable and input are used and only occurs if a DVI to HDMI video cable and analog audio cable/input on the monitor are used. A HDMI combined video/audio cable works as well other than the undesirable characteristics described above (e.g. having to disable onboard audio to force use of the sound on the video card to get the "system ready" sound and latency problems w

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1166125] Re: Broken fonts for Gtk based applications
This package was somehow auto-installed in a release upgrade today from 14.04 to 14.10, and cost me most of the day trying to figure out why everything in X was glitchy and crashing. The terminal looked like http://askubuntu.com/questions/285836/letter-spacing-in-gnome-terminal Even xterm would crash on ctrl-right-click, and these badly-spaced strange characters appeared in almost every terminal emulator (xterm worked, except for its menus). Font selection dialogs ground the computer to a halt, and even the window manager titlebars were in a wonky font. Yet, something was showing, so it was a lot of work to investigate the entire stack of X11, Xft, fontconfig, freetype, pango, gtk, etc to find what component was bad. sudo apt-get purge pango-graphite solved the problem. No idea how that package got installed, but it's removal fixed everything immediately. Given that this package breaks the entire desktop in a non-obvious way, the priority should be "high". What are novice users going to do, other than install another OS, if this bug strikes them? A HDMI combined video/audio cable works as well other than the undesirable characteristics described above (e.g. having to disable onboard audio to force use of the sound on the video card to get the "system ready" sound and latency problems with the audio). Hardware specifics: Motherboards are ASUS Sabertooth and m5a97 with ASUS mx279h and mx239h monitors respectively. Monitors are connected via DVI to HDMI video cables and audio is being delivered via an 1/8" stereo audio cable from the "green" analog output at the motherboard to the analog input of the monitor. I am not sure to who this issue belongs because I could not tell who is switching the audio input in the monitor. It occurs sometime during the playing of the "system ready" sound (this timing may be specific to my hardware configuration and may occur earlier or later depending upon the relative speed of the system). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1394711] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers
Raymond, I have performed the requested data captures and will attach them. I took a look at the xrandr command and decided to try a little troubleshooting on my own and found that the following xrandr command resolves the problem until the system is shutdown or rebooted (e.g. the System Settings sound tests pass and the "System Ready" sound is output if I logout): xrandr --output DVI-0 --set audio off So it appears that the underlying code for the "audio = auto" setting for DVI-0 is incorrectly determining that the setting for this configuration(e.g. DVI to HDMI with analog audio) is "on" instead of "off". I can understand the confusion after looking at the DVI video specification on wikipedia and finding this: DVI-D devices output HDMI signals, many including audio, (examples: ATI 3000-series and NVIDIA GTX 200-series video cards) ,[9] and some multimedia displays input that HDMI signal, including audio, by using a DVI to HDMI adapter. Exact capabilities vary by video card specifications. The only test I have not run is to see if the HDMI video card selection in the System Settings Sound dialog will actually output sound on the DVI to HDMI cable and also resolve the issue. I will try this as soon as I finish attaching the data files and will add another comment to let you know what the outcome of the test is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1394711 Title: [HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all with built in display speakers Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Problem Description: No sound at monitors built in speakers after fresh install of Utopic 14.10 Unity Desktop. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1394480] Re: Need a mechanism to load more query results
For the record, I've implemented a workaround to provide a "Load more" button at the bottom of the list of results. It specially crafts a query that the scope will use to load the next group of results. There are many problems with this approach (confusing queries displayed, departments disappear even if you're browsing one, no way to return to the previous page), but it's something. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1389510] Re: SD card and contents listed several times
This log should show what happens when there are two copies of the SD card device and its contents. This is the simplest broken case... sometimes I've seen as many as nine copies. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1004607] Re: pulseaudio switches microhpones randomly
We should be able to select the input, even with all the auto-detect goodness. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004607 Title: pulseaudio switches microhpones randomly Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Problem === During Skype calls, pulseaudio switches input to front microphone randomly. I need to manually switch back to rear mic every time that happens. Expected === I select the rear microphone as input (pavucontrol) and it stays that way. Workaround == I disabled this module in /etc/pulse/default.pa: # load-module module-switch-on-port-available and then restarting pulseaudio obviously solves this. Ideal workaround == Disable port switching for (selected?) input devices in pavucontrol. Or at least somehow honor my selection, e.g. if the input is marked as a fallback device, it shouldn't switch. Possible cause 1 = After pulseaudio startup, pactl shows these lines: analog-input-microphone-front: Front Microphone (priority 8500, available: yes) analog-input-microphone-rear: Rear Microphone (priority 8200, available: no) Note: I don't use the front mic port at all. Possible cause 2 = My sound card or ports may be creating noise that triggers "jack activation" events Possible cause 3 = Bios, hardware related issues trigger jack activation events. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1339016] Re: Initial sync of the calendar takes a prohibitive amount of time
We were able to improve the situation by limiting how far in the past to sync for calendar events. This was a combination of a new version of syncevolution, and a patch to it and sync-monitor to introduce a "syncInterval" configuration setting (defaults to 90 days) specifiying how many days in the past to go back when syncing. For my caledar, it used to take 20 minutes for initial sync. Now it takes 33 seconds! [Touch-packages] [Bug 538673] Re: tracker-extract seems to briefly consume 1.5GB memory and slow computer right down
I'm using Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 and I found this problem too. tracker- extract takes 1.5 GB of memory and slow down, including change to another window using Alt+Tab, taking lot of seconds to response. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to tracker in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538673 Title: tracker-extract seems to briefly consume 1.5GB memory and slow computer right down Status in “tracker” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: tracker In normal operation of computer, very occasionally computer suddenly slows right down for about 45 seconds - mousepointer is very slow to respond to movement, and windows are too slow to respond to clicks. This has been hard to identify the cause because the computer is so slow to respond it's hard to get system monitor opened to see the offending process. Anyway I've finally managed to view system-monitor within the 45 seconds, and it seems to be "tracker-extract" program that is responsible, that was consuming over 1.5GB of RAM on my machine. It was hard to see though because the 45 seconds finished almost as soon as I'd viewed it, so it very quickly disappeared from the top of the process list when ranked by memory usage. So is "tracker-extract" the offending process? Can it be made a little less hungry of Memory (+ CPU) please? I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) 64 bit version on a 2.9GB machine. Also, granting access to yahoo mail and facebook works flawlessly, but the GMail 'Grant Access' interface is buggy, and just doesn't work. On entering password and clicking 'Done' it brings back the same screen, as though nothing happened. Over and over again. If you click cancel a few times, it brings you back to the screen with the list of online accounts, while it attempts to connect to the services, in vain. Also, overall the friends service is buggy. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1377173] Re: Brother MFC9840CDW Postscript driver fails to initialize for printing as Postscript
The openprinting-ppds package does include PPD files in a compressed form. PPDs can easily be generated from /usr/lib/cups/driver /openprinting-ppds script (just run it from a command line, done automatically by cups) and requires no external http downloading so offline use is no problem at all. See this changelog: foomatic-db (20100806-0ubuntu3) maverick; urgency=low * debian/local/pyppd/, debian/rules, debian/control: Compressed all physical PPD files of the openprinting-ppds and openprinting-ppds-extra packages into archive files reducing the disk space occupation by a factor of 10, freeing several tens of megabytes on the Ubuntu Desktop CDs (or on any live CD based on Debian or a derivative distribution). The archives are self- extracting and located in /usr/lib/cups/driver/, so that CUPS automatically extracts the PPD files. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in the application being used for the package installation process. Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out! [This is an automated message. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1328026] Re: Screen corruption on rotate (Unity, radeon)
I think I found a solution. I'm on 14.10 now and logged into a guest session and rotated the screen there. No problems there. But rotating in my user session led to a garbled or black screen. I deleted .config/dbus and hey, it works now! [Touch-packages] [Bug 1369216] Re: gpu-manager: /etc/modprobe.d is not a file
I was able to resolve this issue by removing intel grahics installer. Here are the steps I followed: 1) In additional drivers, select nouveau as default driver. 2) Purge nvidia using following command: sudo apt-get purge nvidia* 3) Completely remove intel graphics installer and files instaleld by it using following guide: http://theclonker.de/?p=89 replace quantal with trusty. 4) When you purge intel driver i915*, on next reboot an older version might get activated so remove it as well. Simply install synaptic and search "i915" and uninstall if any old version is activated. Restart after that. 5) Enable nvidia driver again in additional drivers. It should work fine! Now I am using xorg edgers repository and have installed nvidia 340.58 driver. It performs much better than nvidia 331 so I will highly recommend it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to upstart in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1369216 Title: gpu-manager: /etc/modprobe.d is not a file Status in “upstart” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Get these lines logged into gpu-manager.log, on that fresh stock installation /etc/modprobe.d is not a file update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for x86_64-linux-gnu_gfxcore_conf ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: upstart 1.13.2-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-14.20-generic 3.16.2 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-14-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Sun Sep 14 08:42:45 2014 ProcKernelCmdline: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-14-generic root=UUID=7c755ed6-51cc-4b75-88ac-9c75acf82749 ro SourcePackage: upstart UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UpstartBugCategory: System UpstartRunningSessionVersion: upstart 1.13.2 UpstartRunningSystemVersion: init (upstart 1.13.2) modified.conffile..etc.default.whoopsie: [modified] modified.conffile..etc.gdm.Init.Default: [modified] mtime.conffile..etc.default.whoopsie: 2014-08-29T19:12:47.435075 mtime.conffile..etc.gdm.Init.Default: 2014-09-07T17:01:23.246055 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1369216/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 495981] Re: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k
The networkmanager connects at my place to BSSID none. None does not exists, so the connection is lost and restarted again, and again and again. The relevant log is: (wlan0): roamed from BSSID (none) ((none)) to 7C: (Zadel6) wpa_supplicant[1076]: wlan0: WPA: Key negotiation completed with 7c: [PTK=CCMP GTK=TKIP] wlan0: deauthenticated from 7c:(Reason: 15=4WAY_HANDSHAKE_TIMEOUT) wpa_supplicant[1076]: message repeated 6 times: [ wlan0: WPA: Key negotiation completed with 7c:[PTK=CCMP GTK=TKIP]] wpa_supplicant[1076]: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=7c: reason=15 Connection disconnected (reason 15) By chance I found the cause. My Cisco router Firmware Version: epc3928a-E10-5-v302r125572-131030c-ZIG MAC Address: Current Time: Sat. Nov 22 11:42:30 2014 Router Mode:IPv4 has two bands 2,4 Ghz and 5Ghz, both with the same BSSID Zadel6. In this situation the networkmanager is switching from BSSID Zadel6 to none, none to none and none to Zadel6. If I disable one of the bands or give it a different BSSID, the switching disappears and the connection is not lost anymore. If it correct to conclude that the networkmanager is getting confused by the two bands on the same BSSID? ** Attachment added: "wireless-info.tar.gz" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/495981/+attachment/4265647/+files/wireless-info.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495981 Title: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: network-manager I have Dell studio XPS 13 running: Description: Ubuntu 9.10 Release: 9.10 with wifi card (lspci): 06:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. [Touch-packages] [Bug 402223] Re: Use a VPN connection and/or proxy setting automatically when connected to a certain network
** Also affects: network-manager via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440031 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/402223 Title: Use a VPN connection and/or proxy setting automatically when connected to a certain network Status in NetworkManager: Unknown Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: network-manager Hi there! This is actually a feature request. The use case: When I am at my university I need to use a given vpn network and proxy. I think many people are in a similar situation where they must use a given set of settings only when connected to a given network. The idea: The proxy settings allow the setup of "places" which are essentially a saved proxy setting one can easily switch to. This is a great feature which could also be implemented into Network Manager. The proxy settings "places" should be extended to Network Manager and there include vpn connections. They should be tied to a set of network connections. So when I connect to a cetain LAN or WLAN (even automatically) Network Manager switches to the corresponding "place", so that my vpn connection and proxy settings are enabled automatically. The gain: Right now when I go to my university and power up the laptop, Network Manager automatically connects to the university's WLAN but I then have to enable the vpn and proxy settings manually. When later connecting to my home network, I have to change the proxy settings again. With my suggested feature that would all happen automatically.
