[Touch-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged
I agree with Jochen and his followers, the whole idea and the dealing with it seems a little bit too sophisticated. Let's make it simple, for me, after the discussion, the philosophy is clear, and I clearly disagree, but to most users that obviously did not read this bug report or the wiki, the behaviour is just STRANGE and unsatisfying...But if you would want to change it like for example the boot order, you should be able to do so. The default case SHOULD BE THE BATTERY of the laptop, so the main interesting thing that should always be in focus. Suggestion for the future: Better you could add colours to the icon to show if it is loosing of its capacitance over the time :-), like red for only half of the capacitance, or a coloir, when you should really discharge/charge to extend batteries life of the laptop. That ALL wouldn't be as annoying for the normal user like the solution you find for it now... and I am sure of it. Please rethink this behaviour, it doesn't make the world a better place... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-power in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315434 Title: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged Status in indicator-power package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: When my laptop battery is in a charging state, but is not fully charged, I expect it to be displayed in preference to my mouse, which has no time remaining estimate. The spec here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Power says: If anything is discharging, the menu title should represent the component (not battery, but component) that is estimated to lose power first. For example, if your notebook battery is estimated to discharge in 1 hour 47 minutes, and your wireless mouse battery is estimated to discharge in 27 minutes, the menu title should represent the mouse. but there doesn't seem to be any guideline to what happens when a battery is being charged. I suggest the time remaining to charge a battery should be displayed in preference to the power level in a wireless mouse. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1409425] [NEW] lxc-start-ephemeral stops working with kernel 3.18 - overlayfs change?
Public bug reported: With the previous vivid kernel 3.16.0-28-generic,lxc-start-ephemeral -o containername works fine. With the current 3.18.0-8-generic it fails with the container failed to start. This is reproducible in a clean cloud VM: $ sudo apt install lxc $ sudo lxc-create -t busybox -n c1 # works fine under all kernels: $ sudo lxc-start -n c1 -F $ sudo lxc-start-ephemeral -o c1 The container 'c1-0twqb553' failed to start. It happens with both the above busybox as well as with a full ubuntu OS container, so I don't think that's relevant. Unfortunately lxc-start-ephemeral has no --logfile or --logpriority or similar debugging tools, and even with -k it doesn't keep a container or logs around for inspection. dmesg might have something worth noting, look at the third line: [ 465.694541] device vethQLD78J entered promiscuous mode [ 465.694611] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): vethQLD78J: link is not ready [ 465.726758] overlayfs: missing upperdir or lowerdir or workdir [ 465.744501] eth0: renamed from vethWRSY7B [ 465.745673] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): vethQLD78J: link becomes ready [ 465.745693] lxcbr0: port 1(vethQLD78J) entered forwarding state [ 465.745697] lxcbr0: port 1(vethQLD78J) entered forwarding state [ 465.746618] lxcbr0: port 1(vethQLD78J) entered disabled state [ 465.747134] device vethQLD78J left promiscuous mode [ 465.747140] lxcbr0: port 1(vethQLD78J) entered disabled state So maybe overlayfs changed its semantics somehow in the new kernel? Before dropping the revert we should probably figure out if: - the upstream change is correct is buggy - why the number of argument changed (it seems from the commit it shouldn't) - what in the archive use that api and needs to be ported - how we can make code support both old/new apis at the same time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnotify/+bug/1223401/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1409434] [NEW] System Settings for mobile on PC
Public bug reported: The other day I searched for the phrase System settings in my dash. And this is what came up: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295710/+files/System_Settings_Gears.bmp I was rather confused by the second System Settings one with clock like gears which appeared, so I right-clicked on it for more information: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295711/+files/System_Settings_Gear_Details.bmp I then went and opened this seconds System Settings which said that it is used for phones, tablets and convergent devices. And this is what I got: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295712/+files/System_Settings_Phone.bmp I also went into each section and it really looked like those were the settings for a phone, it even had a vibration mode which was on, and lots of settings to do with mobile networks. Then I decided to search for it in the Ubuntu Software Centre, and I found it and its page (as you can see the Remove button is greyed out): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295713/+files/System_Settings_Gears_UbuntuSoftwareCentre.bmp I installed Ubuntu on my machine a few weeks before it claims that the second System Settings was installed. I also have a VM running the same up-to-date version of Ubuntu that I have and that does not have this second System Settings installed on it, so it is probably not something that is meant to be installed there in some update or something. Also when I was turning my computer off and I clicked the Shutdown button on the dialog which asks you if you would like to Shutdown or Restart, and my screen froze for about two seconds and then this image with a dotted border around it flashed on my screen for a split second (it was too quick to take a screenshot of so this is the best that I have got): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409434/+attachment/4295712/+files/System_Settings_Phone.bmp I asked a question about it here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/260452 And was told that I should report it as a bug. Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have an Acer Extensa 5620, with GMA x3100 video chipset. When using Chrome or Chromium to play videos on Youtube the screen goes completely black and I could not revive it. The audio is played during this. I have been using Xubuntu and Chrome for about a year, and have only been experiencing this for a few months. As I recall this came in around the upgrade that brought in the little icon in the status bar, that shows Chrome running in the background even when the windows are closed. I tried reinstalling the newest LTS Xubuntu (14.04), still no good. With Firefox it works just fine. I guess it could be something about hardware acceleration, but it is a shot in the dark. So summarized: I tried to play Youtube videos on Chrome and Chromium. I was expecting it to playback as it had for years before. It did not, the screen went all black, audio started playing, and I could not bring the screen back to showing anything. This has happened a dozen times, and always happens when trying again. Thanks! [Touch-packages] [Bug 1314486] Re: Flash videos disappears/underlays when using Fullscreen mode.
The issue can be fixed by installing the following Gnome extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/851/flash-fullscreen-fix/. It would be nice if the functionality of this extension could be integrated into gnome-shell by default. It is a desaster if flash videos could not be played in a desktop environment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314486 Title: Flash videos disappears/underlays when using Fullscreen mode. Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Flash videos (dailymotion, xnxx, etc.) disappears/underlays when using Fullscreen mode. In 13.10, the same would occur, but the workaround was to look for the underlayed fullscreen icon/fullscreen plugin container, in the activities bar. Now on 14.04, that workaround isn't even available. It looks like the issue lies somewhere in Gnome. The problem occured on UbuntuGnome14.04, so I decided to delete that and install Ubuntu 14.04. The problem is gone, but... I like Gnome, so I decided to install the Gnome shell on top of Ubuntu 14.04, and sure enough, after transitioning to Gnome shell, the same problem occurs. Can someone help me out please? ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409434 Title: System Settings for mobile on PC Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The other day I searched for the phrase System settings in my dash. So that is what I am doing. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1377624] Re: udev fails without devtmpfs and sysvinit in OpenVZ
Not sure this is a bug. The error: Setting up udev (204-5ubuntu20.7) ... * udev requires hotplug support, not started ...fail! occurs in /etc/init.d/udev when the script checks for the existence of /sys/kernel/uevent_helper which does't exist unless the config option CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER was set at kernel compile time. (Open the .config file, search for CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER and set it to y. Save the .config file and recompile the kernel and boot it. The above error should not occur. ) If recompiling your kernel is not an option, suggest the following workaround: edit /etc/init.d/udev comment out the following lines (at approx line 128-131): if [ ! -e /sys/kernel/uevent_helper ]; then log_failure_msg udev requires hotplug support, not started log_end_msg 1 fi The script should then run without error. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1377624 Title: udev fails without devtmpfs and sysvinit in OpenVZ Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in systemd source package in Trusty: Incomplete Bug description: I'm running 14.04 LTS in an OpenVZ container. OK, after no help in finding how to install the suggested program, and a lot of fruitless searching I finally stumbled acros : https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/ubuntu/ppa More specifically you need this : https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/ubuntu/hda To install do the following : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:diwic/hda sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install snd-hda-tools Once I ran it I got the following, if it makes any sense : sudo hdajacksensetest Pin 0x15 (Black Headphone, Rear side): present = Yes Pin 0x18 (Black Mic, Rear side): present = Yes Ironically the laptop has a pair of sockets at the front for headphones but no actual ´rear´ ones. It seems that whether the headphones are plugged in or not the system believes that they are, and that the internal speakers are therefore ´disconnected´ WIll happily diagnose/test further if someone tells me what to do. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1408856 Title: [HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC, Realtek ALC268, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Sound won´t work on default install on internal speakers or headphones. [Touch-packages] [Bug 982434] Re: Opening the dash causes memory usage to climb dramatically, and never comes back down
Same bug with Ubuntu 14.10 on Dell E6510. Compiz used ram increase each time i search something in the dash. I have noticed that using last nvidia drivers (331.113) or legacy (304.125) does not make much difference. Using instead the xorg nouveau drivers it is much better. Used ram by compiz starts with 38Mb and I could reach 106 Mb, but not more. Moreover in the system monitor application, selecting the memory map for compiz process I see that what is eating ram is the heap of this process. I will attach screenshot. ** Attachment added: compiz-ram1.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/982434/+attachment/4295882/+files/compiz-ram1.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982434 Title: Opening the dash causes memory usage to climb dramatically, and never comes back down Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This may not be a bug at all, but thought I'd report it anyway. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1383277] Re: Power dialog sometimes shown on resume
So I've also seen this symptom on my everyday phone (rtm/mako). It's not due to a large wallpaper image, as I use the stock one. But it does seem to happen when the phone's been running for a long time. So maybe high memory use? And the symptom is that I press the power button to turn the screen on, but nothing happens. Then after a few seconds, I press the power button again and I can see the screen turn on and then off again. So I press the power button a third time and it's fine. So I'm guessing that somewhere in our handling of the power-on press, we hit the same problem as the greeter-show block I fixed in the other branch. We're blocking on something that isn't completing while handling the power-button pressed event. Preventing us from handling the power-button release event and then causing us to show the shutdown dialog. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1383277 Title: Power dialog sometimes shown on resume Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: In Progress Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu RTM: In Progress Bug description: Unfortunately no good steps to reproduce, other than resume your phone, from time to time you'll get the power dialog displayed on screen. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1101825] Re: IPv6 static default route added incorrectly by network-manager
Hey guys! This problem still exists on Ubuntu Vivid! Come on! Ubuntu Desktop is near useless on a network with IPv6 + SLAAC with Routers in H.A. When the main router dies, the slave router becomes active (radvd) but, all Ubuntu Desktops (Gnome / Unity) doesn't see the new IPv6 router. While Windows, Mac, Ubuntu Servers (without NM) and Enlightenment DE with Econnman are working as expected. Please, fix this! Maybe it is time to bring Network Manager 1.0 to Ubuntu. Right now, on my personal machine, I removed network-manager packages and I'm configuring my IPv6 network directly on /etc/network/interfaces, since NM is useless on an IPv6 + SLAAC network with routers in H.A.. Also, my laptop have Econnman, from Enlightenment project. It works like a charm! [Touch-packages] [Bug 1354067] Re: Auto-Login service for GMail accounts gives Applications can no longer access online account error
I had this problem in Ubuntu 14.10 untill I changed my 'password and keys' to store unencrypted (blank password). Not the most secure solution but is fine for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to account-plugins in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1354067 Title: Auto-Login service for GMail accounts gives Applications can no longer access online account error Status in account-plugins package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The auto-login service for GMail accounts gives Applications can no longer access online accounts error everytime it attempts to connect. It also cannot sustain connections for other online services (facebook, yahoo, etc.) and requires me to grant access to the services again and again. I can confirm my passwords are correct. Also, granting access to yahoo mail and facebook works flawlessly, but the GMail 'Grant Access' interface is buggy, and just doesn't work. On entering password and clicking 'Done' it brings back the same screen, as though nothing happened. Over and over again. If you click cancel a few times, it brings you back to the screen with the list of online accounts, while it attempts to connect to the services, in vain. Also, overall the friends service is buggy. It doesn't show me notifications from facebook, nor has it synced events from my google calenders. I cannot tell you when this problem started exactly, neither can i guess what might have caused the problem. If you need some log files, please tell me, i'll upload them asap. I don't have accounts in many of the services listed there, so i might not be able to help you with other services. I really hope there's a solution to this, because its always lovely to see a well polished desktop environment :) I use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) Version of 'friends' package installed: 0.2.0+14.04.20140217.1-0ubuntu1 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: friends-dispatcher 0.2.0+14.04.20140217.1-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.47-generic 3.13.9 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Thu Aug 7 20:47:49 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-04-20 (108 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release amd64 (20140417) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: friends UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/account-plugins/+bug/1354067/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I feel a slight mental pause as I have to expend slightly more effort to distinguish the similarly coloured elements in the keyboard. ** Affects: ubuntu-keyboard Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu-ux Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu-keyboard (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ubuntu-keyboard (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-keyboard in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409606 Title: Default keyboard colour scheme slows users down Status in Ubuntu Keyboard: New Status in Ubuntu UX bugs: New Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I feel the default keyboard colour scheme is slowing me down. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1409606] Re: Default keyboard colour scheme slows users down
The problem I think is the white buttons on light-grey background. When typing, you're aiming for the whole button and not just the letter. So if the button is feint and hard to see, it feels like it takes more effort. ** Also affects: ubuntu-ux Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-keyboard in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409606 Title: Default keyboard colour scheme slows users down Status in Ubuntu Keyboard: New Status in Ubuntu UX bugs: New Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I feel the default keyboard colour scheme is slowing me down.
