[Touch-packages] [Bug 1547374] Re: "Monospace Regular 8" became wider

2016-06-10 Thread ubuntu user
I believe this is the same problem:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-dejavu/+bug/1589046

For me disable font hinting did not make font looks same as in 15.10.

Title:
  "Monospace Regular 8" became wider

Status in fontconfig package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've been using gnome-terminal with "Monospace Regular 8" for years,
which always had a 6x13 px font size (the same size as xterm, just
  nicer antialiasing).

With yesterday's update in Xenial, it became wider: 7x13 px each cell
(and less pleasing to my eyes).

The neighbor sizes "Monospace Regular 7" is 5px wide, "Monospace
Regular 9" is 7px wide just as "Monospace Regular 8", only taller. So
it doesn't make sense for me for "Monospace Regular 8" to be 7px wide
instead of 6px in between the two neighboring sizes as it used to be.

(No clue which package is the culprit, sorry.)

Title:
3G not working when wifi is selected, even if no wifi available

Status in indicator-network package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Hi I am using a Meizu MX4 with the OTA 8 update. If I try to select
3G "in the open" with no wifi signal (but wifi turned on) the phone
doesn’t switch to 3G and stays on wifi. I understand that auto
switching between 3G and wifi is a good thing and wifi should take
priority, but if there is no wifi is available in the area then I
would have thought the phone should switch to 3G when selected.

Note, the old MX4 problem with wifi dropping out (from the same router) when
moving around a building, and not reconnecting is still occurring with the OTA
8 update. This is not serious but very annoying. The only way to reconnect is
to turn wifi off then back on again.
If the phone knows it is connected to the internet, then looses connection,
could you not just treat this in the same way as the first time it connected in
the building. I guess the same idea could also help for the above 3G problem.
In this case if wifi on, but no signal then 3G takes priority even if the wifi
is on.

Thanks for your hard work, love Ubuntu Touch and have also flashed a
Nexus 4 to try some stuff of my own.

  Regards

  Dave H

Hello,

I've noticed in my flat loosing the network connection to my provider.

I've tested to move in the same room with android and ubuntu.
- ubuntu (in 3G) stays in 3G and lost the phone network connectivity,
- Android (in 3G) switch to 2G and keeps some connectivity.
- Ubuntu (in 2G) keeps some connectivity.

Is it a bug or not developed the automatic switch ?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1357093] Re: Kernels not autoremoving, causing out of space error on LVM or Encrypted installation or on any installation, when /boot partition gets full

2016-06-10 Thread Ta
Ok I managed to resolve this issue:

opened file explorer as root using gksudo. I navigated to the boot
folder then manually deleted all the gzip archives ( because I expect
they would not be used).

Title:
Kernels not autoremoving, causing out of space error on LVM or
Encrypted installation or on any installation, when /boot partition
  gets full

Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Currently if one chooses to use LVM or encrypted install, a /boot
  partition is created of 236Mb

Once kernel updates start being released this partition soon fills
until people are left unable to upgrade.

While you and I might know that we need to watch partition space, many
of the people we have installing think that a windows disk is a disk
and not a partition, education is probably the key - but in the
meantime support venues keep needing to deal with the fact the
partition is too small and/or old kernels are not purged as new ones
  install.

For workaround and sytem repair, see
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/RemoveOldKernels

I noticed on a system that accepts large numbers of SSH connections that
after awhile, SSH sessions were taking ~25 seconds to complete.

Looking in /var/log/auth.log, systemd-logind starts failing with the
following:

Jun 10 23:55:28 test sshd[3666]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for
user ubuntu by (uid=0)
Jun 10 23:55:28 test systemd-logind[105]: New session c1052 of user ubuntu.
Jun 10 23:55:28 test systemd-logind[105]: Failed to abandon session scope:
Transport endpoint is not connected
Jun 10 23:55:28 test sshd[3666]: pam_systemd(sshd:session): Failed to create
session: Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying

I reproduced this in an LXD container by doing something like:

lxc launch ubuntu:x test
lxc exec test -- login -f ubuntu
ssh-import-id

Then ran a script as follows (passing in ubuntu@):

while [ 1 ]; do
(time ssh $1 "echo OK > /dev/null") 2>&1 | grep ^real >> log
done

In my case, after 1052 logins, the 1053rd and thereafter were taking 25+
seconds to complete. Here are some snippets from the log file:

$ cat log | grep 0m0 | wc -l
1052

$ cat log | grep 0m25 | wc -l

[Touch-packages] [Bug 556372] Re: Please remove the plymouth dependency from mountall / cryptsetup

2016-06-10 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
I don't yet understand how exactly the next two facts combine: 1)
Plymouth is not just a splash screen but required for something
cryptsetup does 2) cryptsetup works just fine without it on many setups

What conditions are required for the cryptsetup to fail in any way when
plymouth package is absent?

Title:
Please remove the plymouth dependency from mountall / cryptsetup

Status in cryptsetup:
  Confirmed
Status in mountall package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: mountall

I noticed that mountall (and cryptsetup) depends on plymouth now.
Whatever plymouth is doing or not doing, my headless system is booting
fine without plymouth (dpkg --force-depends -P plymouth), yet all
disks (local, NFS) are mounted and cryptsetup is setting up encrypted
  swap as it used to.

IMHO the "Depends: plymouth" is too hard and should be replaced with
"Recommends:" or "Suggests:" for the following reasons:

  - Headless systems won't ever see what plymouth is doing ("graphical boot
animation")
  - Plymouth itself depends on quite a few libraries (libdrm-*), unnecessarily
adding code to the installation- Mountall is of "Priority: required" while
plymouth is "optional". The "Depends:" makes plymouth essentially "required" as
well and cannot be uninstalled w/o --force options.

  Please reconsider this dependency.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1583331] Re: Change to lsb package in 16.04+ breaks backwards compatibility

2016-06-10 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Title:
Change to lsb package in 16.04+ breaks backwards compatibility

Status in lsb package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Since Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus, lsb has been changed (removed?
numbering scheme altered?) in such a way that installation of various
software becomes impossible due to missing dependencies.

Most prominently it has become impossible to install the Linux driver
packages for Epson printers (available from Epson).
While the repositories contain a package (escpr) for epson printer drivers,
this package provides only limited functionality (indicated by the r suffix in
the package), which in some cases prevents any reasonable work with Epson
printers (e.g. no support for duplex printing, additional paper cartridges,
etc.).
In my case, a Stylus Office BX925 (compatible to Workforce 840) can't be used
with Ubuntu anymore, except for the most simple printing tasks.

This issue affects the drivers and utilities for other printer brands
  as well.

Further affected software seems to be e.g. Google Earth.

While it's reasonable to assume that Google Earth will be eventually
updated, there's no such guarantee for affected printer
drivers/utilities, given the notoriously bad official Linux support of
  some hardware.

  lsb_release -rd
  Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

With Ubuntu 16.04 LTS as the recommended deadline many packages
managed to transition to qml-module-xyz package naming from the
qtdeclarative5-xyz-plugin package naming (bug #1342031). The next step
is to update all packages that depend on transitioned qtdeclarative5
-xyz-plugin to depend on the proper qml-module-xyz packages instead.

The goal is to then drop the transitional packages now that 14.04 LTS
-> 16.04 LTS upgrades are secured for all the packages that made the
  transition before 16.04 LTS release.

Title:
apt-get says that there are 'held broken' packages when there are no

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
While attempting to install some package, apt-get tells me:
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

  Hence, an obvious contradiction.

This problem is important because this message obscures the real
reasons behind the failure of the often used 'apt-get install'

The message produced is absolutely not helpful for understanding of

Listening to radio on the web browser crash if facebook app is on

Status in Canonical System Image:

Status in Ubuntu Facebook App:
  New
Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
on meizu 4 ota 11 (stable)

When listening to radio online on the French radio website at the following
address :
http://www.franceinfo.fr/player (you have to select the audio option on the
website instead of the default video choice)
it works fine for several minutes and then the web-browser just crashes
(disappears and closes completely).
This problem might have started with ota 11.

  Edit:
After discussions here, it seems the bug is linked to the facebook app opened
at the same time.

 * start blinken from the app scope
 * Show the about dialog in blinken (use the bottom right circle for it)

Using systemd as my default init system if I resume from suspend my
laptop, it doesn't automatically reconnect to the wireless network and
it doesn't list the available network connections.

The only way to get a wireless connection is to restart the network-
manager daemon or going to the gnome-control-center, disable wireless
  and enable it again.

  SRU INFORMATION
  ===
In some of these cases this bug can be worked around by calling "wpa_cli
suspend/resume" before/after suspend, like we used to do with the old pm-utils
quirks (/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/60_wpa_supplicant). This only affects
particular hardware, and thus this needs to be tested by affected reporters,
there is no general reproducer for arbitrary systems.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591342] Re: Complains about bad url on libertine scope urls

Pretty sure this is a URL Dispatcher bug. It isn't using the new UAL

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1541787] Re: Printing from legacy apps on the pocket desktop

2016-06-10 Thread Stephen M. Webb

** Changed in: libertine (Ubuntu)

Title:
Printing from legacy apps on the pocket desktop

Status in avahi package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in cups-filters package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in libertine package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I have worked out a concept on how to introduce printing support to
the phone (tablet, mobile devices) keeping the resource consumption
low, starting the needed daemons on-demand.

The daemons needed for printing are avahi-daemon, cups-browsed, and
CUPS. avahi-daemon discovers printers on the network, cups-browsed
creates local CUPS queues pointing to the remote printers and CUPS
  does the actual printing.

CUPS is started socket-activated by Upstart and stops by itself when
it gets idle. So CUPS for example starts when cups-browsed tries to
create a print queue or an app sends a job to be printed. avahi-daemon
and cups-browsed will be started by the print dialog of Ubuntu Touch,
right before the dialog opens, making available printers on the
network appear within seconds in the dialog. When the dialog closes,
either because the user sent the print job or because he has
cancelled, it kills avahi-daemon. cups-browsed and CUPS terminate
automatically then as soon as the user's job is printed (plus a
  timeout).

If you connect a monitor to the pone and so fire up the pocket desktop
you are able to run legacy apps (apps designed for a conventional PC)
which have print functionalities but their print dialogs do not start
and kill daemons, they assume that all daemons and print queues are
readily available. CUPS would be fired up automatically by any app's
print functionality due to the socket activation, but then we would
not have print queues on our phone as avahi-daemon and cups-browsed
  are not running.

So what has to be made sure is that cups-browsed and avahi-daemon are
running if at least one of

   - the native print dialog of Ubuntu Touch
   - any legacy app

are running. So when one of these get started the two daemons need to
get started and if all of these terminate avahi-daemon needs to get
killed, so that the rest of the printing stack shuts down when all
  jobs get done.

We assume that ubuntu-app-launch is the place where this should be
done, please re-assign if this is not correct. I also add cups-filters
(source of cups-browsed) and avahi-daemon tasks for the case that
perhaps here something needs to get done, too.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1285444] Re: Login Successful, Desktop Never Loads

2016-06-10 Thread Devon
I just realized dconf 'dump / > dump.txt' doesn't dump everything seen
in dconf-editor, only the fields in bold (non-default values?). For
example /org/compiz/gwd isn't in the dump file.

Should also note I have gnome3 desktop environment installed alongside
unity but I recall the issues weren’t a result of installing that.

I attached a dconf dump of /org/compiz after running dconf reset -f
/org/compiz on the problem file. So some difference between the two
files is problematic.

  * Cursor works fine, it can be moved around the screen
  * No error messages pop up
  * ALT+F1 etc. can be used to switch to different TTYs; all files on the

Please update sqlite to a version > 3.8.2.

  According to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=329697 sqlite3 version
3.8.2 causes crashes in digikam (and possibly other software) in various
situations. Several reports confirm, that versions > 3.8.2 fix the issue.
I'm using the 3.8.4.3 package from debian testing right now and can't trigger
crashes anymore.

  Workaround:
Install sqlite3 > 3.8.2, e.g. you can manually install the corresponding deb
packages from either utopic or debian.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1285444] Re: Login Successful, Desktop Never Loads

2016-06-10 Thread Devon
Using 16.04 had the same problem with blank screen. The first thing I
tried was running 'unity-tweak-tool --reset-unity' but that made it even
worse: before the windows had borders & top bar and I could use some
shortcuts such as ctrl-alt-T to pull up gnome-terminal (but not custom
shortcuts) and alt-tab to switch screens but that was lost after that
command.

Removing ~/.config/dconf/user made it work again as noted above, but
specifically something in /org/compiz since running 'dconf reset -f
/org/compiz/' worked too.

I then reverted back to the problematic file and tried resetting
/org/compiz/profiles/unity and the only thing that fixed was the alt-
tab, shortcuts and window borders again. So there seems to be another
bug since shortcuts are located in org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins
/media-keys

Running 'gnome-session-quit --force' gets an error which normally doesn't
happen when it's working normally:
** (gnome-session-quit:3002): WARNING **: Failed to call logout:
GDBus.Error:org.gnome.SessionManager.NotInRunning: Logout interface is only
available during the Running phase

Attached is a dconf dump of /org/compiz

** Attachment added: "dconf /org/compiz/ dump"

  1. Boot computer, boot proceeds normally
  2. Reach standard Ubuntu login screen, nothing seems to be amiss
  3. Enter user name and password
  4. Login disappears, just see the pink "Ubuntu 14.04" background

The desktop never loads, not even after ~30 minutes. The launcher
never appears, and the Desktop background never changes to the user-
  configured background.

  Other features:
  * Cursor works fine, it can be moved around the screen
  * No error messages pop up
  * ALT+F1 etc. can be used to switch to different TTYs; all files on the
system appear to be intact
  * Print screen button works (I will upload a screen shot when I get a chance
to copy it onto a USB drive)
  * Hitting power button pops up a window prompting the user to decide whether
to shut down
  * CTRL+ALT+DELETE prompts the user to log out
  * Desktop does not load on any user accounts, including the guest account

Is this intended or did something change in logrotate?
A similar bug report states that the files will be opened on a subsequent

  See

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591006] Re: Listening to radio make the web browser crash

2016-06-10 Thread Victor Gabillon
Thank you for your prompt response!
I tried to reproduce the bug. First I could not.
I looked at the /var/crash/ and found one older crash report (not the right
timing with what I saw yesterday) about a bug linked to the facebook app and
not the web-browser.
I tried again to listen to the radio with the facebook app opened and this time
I got a bug at some point (took me longer than last time) and it seems to be
linked to the facebook app refreshing itself or possibly getting notifications.
I attach the crash report from /var/crash in the following: (sorry for the long
copy paste, i did not found a way to attach a file here)
Btw, even if I saw multiple crashes today also, I can only see one crash report
related to the first crash I saw in the /var/crash. I actually had to rename
the old crash report to get to see the new one, which I guess explains what I
was explaining at the beginning of the message by not being able to see the
crash of yesterday but only seeing the one before that.

  GTK on Mir)

Status in Mir:
  Triaged
Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I can't find a way for telling Mir that we have decorations drawn
client-side and the result is that we have two sets of decorations
(and shadows) when running Gtk applications under the demo server.

It would be nice if we could tell the display server that we are
  drawing the decorations.

Also up for discussion: if the client is going to be drawing the
shadows then we also need a "frame extents" sort of mechanism that we
can use to tell Mir how large the shadows are. This needs to be
compensated for when performing various window management tasks (eg:
  snap to edge).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591303] [NEW] [webapp-container] No way to allow dynamic user-agent content with --user-agent-string

2016-06-10 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

Here's my use case:

1. I have a reddit webapp using webapp-container.
2. I want to avoid reddit's popup box suggesting I install the Android app
(reddit does this based on the presence of the Android user agent keyword).
3. I want to be convergent and have reddit feed my webapp mobile or desktop
content as appropriate (reddit will do this for us based on the presence of the
Mobile user agent keyword).

As of today, #2 makes me want to pass a --user-agent-string without the
"Android" keyword. But #3 makes me want to allow webapp-container to
use its default dynamic user-agent logic, inserting Mobile or not as
needed.

As a soft #4, I'd also like to have the various versions in the user
agent string be accurate. Which is hard to do when passing a manual
--user-agent-string.

What would be the best solution to my problem?

My simple proposal would be a new flag that says --no-android-user-agent
or something like that. But that's a bit grossly named. Maybe --pure-
user-agent or --native-user-agent or something, which would use a pure
Ubuntu user agent without "Android".

** Affects: webbrowser-app (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Wrong icon in notification of missed alarms and events

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in Ubuntu UX:
  New
Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The new implemented notifications (Released in OTA-11; see Bug
#1440111) for missed alarms and events is using wrong icons.

  1) If an alarm has been missed, the notification should use the icon of the
clock app instead of the calendar app's.
  2) A missed alarm should use the clock-icon on the right instead of an icon
showing a number.
  3) A missed event should use the new event-icon without a number.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578628] Re: Upstart log files are not reopened after rolling

2016-06-10 Thread Oliver Grawert
well, if there are actual writes the files should be re-created ... are
they also not created newly after a reboot ?

Title:
Upstart log files are not reopened after rolling

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in upstart package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Seen on stable and proposed vivid based touch images
I noticed on two of my devices that after a scheduled rolling of the files in
/var/log/upstart that there were no active *.log files at all.
The config for upstart includes nocreate but this has always been this way.
Is this intended or did something change in logrotate?
A similar bug report states that the files will be opened on a subsequent
write from the upstart process, but this is clearly not happening.

  See
http://askubuntu.com/questions/481236/upstart-not-reopening-log-files-on-logrotation
  and perhaps bug #1350782

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591149] Re: Find more modern text for Italian word prediction

2016-06-10 Thread Stefano Verzegnassi
Yet another italian! :)

One thing I saw when typing on the keyboard with an Italian dictionary
is that it does not recognise loanwords from English (and at the current
days we use them a lot in our everyday Italian).

(random) e.g. "Mi è arrivato dello SPAM in posta" -> "Mi è arrivato
dello SPAMPANAVA in posta"

I think that any old novel couldn't help with this.

Could some resource from Wikipedia be integrated with any of the novels above?
As far as I can see, Wikipedia/Wikizionario/* content is CC BY-SA licensed.

As alternative, I found a dictionary from the Boot2Gecko project, which seems
to be complete enough (and includes English loanwords).
https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia/blob/master/apps/keyboard/js/imes/latin/dictionaries/it_wordlist.xml
A good thing is that dirty words are already marked, so they can be easily
filtered out.

Title:
Find more modern text for Italian word prediction

Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The text used for word prediction in Italian [1] is IMHO not very
suitable for the goal of predicting words typed into computers
nowadays (especially on phones), fo a few reasons:

  - it's very old -- from 1868; particles like "cotesto", "pel", "pei" are not
used anymore
  - it's mostly written in the "passato remoto" past tense, which is not that
common in modern speech
  - it talks about history, with ample use of long and rarely used words.
  - dialogues are entirely missing

I think it should be changed with a modern text, not without
dialogues. Does this have to be a single book, or can we assemble a
few different texts together (i'm thinking about adding some pieces
from newspapers, blogs and short novels, mostly)?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591274] [NEW] xenial shutdown takes a looong time

2016-06-10 Thread Jane Silber
Public bug reported:

I have a new XPS13, running an up-to-date 16.04. The shutdown process
takes ages - something is clearly getting stuck. It eventually
completes, but is (or seems like) several minutes. Happy to help debug
if you can give instructions on how to see what's stuck.

** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
