[Touch-packages] [Bug 1547374] Re: "Monospace Regular 8" became wider
I believe this is the same problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-dejavu/+bug/1589046 For me disable font hinting did not make font looks same as in 15.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to fontconfig in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547374 Title: "Monospace Regular 8" became wider Status in fontconfig package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've been using gnome-terminal with "Monospace Regular 8" for years, which always had a 6x13 px font size (the same size as xterm, just nicer antialiasing). With yesterday's update in Xenial, it became wider: 7x13 px each cell (and less pleasing to my eyes). The neighbor sizes "Monospace Regular 7" is 5px wide, "Monospace Regular 9" is 7px wide just as "Monospace Regular 8", only taller. So it doesn't make sense for me for "Monospace Regular 8" to be 7px wide instead of 6px in between the two neighboring sizes as it used to be. (No clue which package is the culprit, sorry.) If I try to select 3G "in the open" with no wifi signal (but wifi turned on) the phone doesn’t switch to 3G and stays on wifi. I understand that auto switching between 3G and wifi is a good thing and wifi should take priority, but if there is no wifi is available in the area then I would have thought the phone should switch to 3G when selected. Note, the old MX4 problem with wifi dropping out (from the same router) when moving around a building, and not reconnecting is still occurring with the OTA 8 update. This is not serious but very annoying. The only way to reconnect is to turn wifi off then back on again. If the phone knows it is connected to the internet, then looses connection, could you not just treat this in the same way as the first time it connected in the building. I guess the same idea could also help for the above 3G problem. In this case if wifi on, but no signal then 3G takes priority even if the wifi is on. Thanks for your hard work, love Ubuntu Touch and have also flashed a Nexus 4 to try some stuff of my own. Whatever plymouth is doing or not doing, my headless system is booting fine without plymouth (dpkg --force-depends -P plymouth), yet all disks (local, NFS) are mounted and cryptsetup is setting up encrypted swap as it used to. IMHO the "Depends: plymouth" is too hard and should be replaced with "Recommends:" or "Suggests:" for the following reasons: - Headless systems won't ever see what plymouth is doing ("graphical boot animation") - Plymouth itself depends on quite a few libraries (libdrm-*), unnecessarily adding code to the installation- Mountall is of "Priority: required" while plymouth is "optional". [Touch-packages] [Bug 1583331] Re: Change to lsb package in 16.04+ breaks backwards compatibility
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! ** Changed in: lsb (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lsb in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1583331 Title: Change to lsb package in 16.04+ breaks backwards compatibility Status in lsb package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Since Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus, lsb has been changed (removed? numbering scheme altered?) in such a way that installation of various software becomes impossible due to missing dependencies. Most prominently it has become impossible to install the Linux driver packages for Epson printers (available from Epson). While the repositories contain a package (escpr) for epson printer drivers, this package provides only limited functionality (indicated by the r suffix in the package), which in some cases prevents any reasonable work with Epson printers (e.g. no support for duplex printing, additional paper cartridges, etc.). In my case, a Stylus Office BX925 (compatible to Workforce 840) can't be used with Ubuntu anymore, except for the most simple printing tasks. This issue affects the drivers and utilities for other printer brands as well. Further affected software seems to be e.g. Google Earth. While it's reasonable to assume that Google Earth will be eventually updated, there's no such guarantee for affected printer drivers/utilities, given the notoriously bad official Linux support of some hardware. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Release:16.04 lsb version 9.20160110 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lsb/+bug/1583331/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591342] Re: Complains about bad url on libertine scope urls

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1541787] Re: Printing from legacy apps on the pocket desktop
** Changed in: libertine (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: libertine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to avahi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1541787 Title: Printing from legacy apps on the pocket desktop Status in avahi package in Ubuntu: New Status in cups-filters package in Ubuntu: New Status in libertine package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I have worked out a concept on how to introduce printing support to the phone (tablet, mobile devices) keeping the resource consumption low, starting the needed daemons on-demand. The daemons needed for printing are avahi-daemon, cups-browsed, and CUPS. avahi-daemon discovers printers on the network, cups-browsed creates local CUPS queues pointing to the remote printers and CUPS does the actual printing. CUPS is started socket-activated by Upstart and stops by itself when it gets idle. So CUPS for example starts when cups-browsed tries to create a print queue or an app sends a job to be printed. avahi-daemon and cups-browsed will be started by the print dialog of Ubuntu Touch, right before the dialog opens, making available printers on the network appear within seconds in the dialog. When the dialog closes, either because the user sent the print job or because he has cancelled, it kills avahi-daemon. cups-browsed and CUPS terminate automatically then as soon as the user's job is printed (plus a timeout). If you connect a monitor to the pone and so fire up the pocket desktop you are able to run legacy apps (apps designed for a conventional PC) which have print functionalities but their print dialogs do not start and kill daemons, they assume that all daemons and print queues are readily available. CUPS would be fired up automatically by any app's print functionality due to the socket activation, but then we would not have print queues on our phone as avahi-daemon and cups-browsed are not running. So what has to be made sure is that cups-browsed and avahi-daemon are running if at least one of - the native print dialog of Ubuntu Touch - any legacy app are running. So when one of these get started the two daemons need to get started and if all of these terminate avahi-daemon needs to get killed, so that the rest of the printing stack shuts down when all jobs get done. We assume that ubuntu-app-launch is the place where this should be done, please re-assign if this is not correct. I also add cups-filters (source of cups-browsed) and avahi-daemon tasks for the case that perhaps here something needs to get done, too. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1285444] Re: Login Successful, Desktop Never Loads
Using 16.04 had the same problem with blank screen. The first thing I tried was running 'unity-tweak-tool --reset-unity' but that made it even worse: before the windows had borders & top bar and I could use some shortcuts such as ctrl-alt-T to pull up gnome-terminal (but not custom shortcuts) and alt-tab to switch screens but that was lost after that command. Removing ~/.config/dconf/user made it work again as noted above, but specifically something in /org/compiz since running 'dconf reset -f /org/compiz/' worked too. I then reverted back to the problematic file and tried resetting /org/compiz/profiles/unity and the only thing that fixed was the alt- tab, shortcuts and window borders again. So there seems to be another bug since shortcuts are located in org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins /media-keys Running 'gnome-session-quit --force' gets an error which normally doesn't happen when it's working normally: ** (gnome-session-quit:3002): WARNING **: Failed to call logout: GDBus.Error:org.gnome.SessionManager.NotInRunning: Logout interface is only available during the Running phase Attached is a dconf dump of /org/compiz ** Attachment added: "dconf /org/compiz/ dump" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/at-spi2-core/+bug/1285444/+attachment/4681188/+files/dconf_org-compiz.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to at-spi2-core in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1285444 Title: Login Successful, Desktop Never Loads Status in at-spi2-core package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Here is what I encounter 1. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1591006] Re: Listening to radio make the web browser crash
Thank you for your prompt response! I tried to reproduce the bug. First I could not. I looked at the /var/crash/ and found one older crash report (not the right timing with what I saw yesterday) about a bug linked to the facebook app and not the web-browser. I tried again to listen to the radio with the facebook app opened and this time I got a bug at some point (took me longer than last time) and it seems to be linked to the facebook app refreshing itself or possibly getting notifications. I attach the crash report from /var/crash in the following: (sorry for the long copy paste, i did not found a way to attach a file here) Btw, even if I saw multiple crashes today also, I can only see one crash report related to the first crash I saw in the /var/crash. I actually had to rename the old crash report to get to see the new one, which I guess explains what I was explaining at the beginning of the message by not being able to see the crash of yesterday but only seeing the one before that. I want to be convergent and have reddit feed my webapp mobile or desktop content as appropriate (reddit will do this for us based on the presence of the Mobile user agent keyword). As of today, #2 makes me want to pass a --user-agent-string without the "Android" keyword. But #3 makes me want to allow webapp-container to use its default dynamic user-agent logic, inserting Mobile or not as needed. As a soft #4, I'd also like to have the various versions in the user agent string be accurate. Which is hard to do when passing a manual --user-agent-string. What would be the best solution to my problem? My simple proposal would be a new flag that says --no-android-user-agent or something like that. But that's a bit grossly named. Maybe --pure- user-agent or --native-user-agent or something, which would use a pure Ubuntu user agent without "Android". ** Affects: webbrowser-app (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to webbrowser-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1591303 Title: [webapp-container] No way to allow dynamic user-agent content with --user-agent-string Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Here's my use case: 1. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1591149] Re: Find more modern text for Italian word prediction
Yet another italian! :) One thing I saw when typing on the keyboard with an Italian dictionary is that it does not recognise loanwords from English (and at the current days we use them a lot in our everyday Italian). (random) e.g. "Mi è arrivato dello SPAM in posta" -> "Mi è arrivato dello SPAMPANAVA in posta" I think that any old novel couldn't help with this. Could some resource from Wikipedia be integrated with any of the novels above? As far as I can see, Wikipedia/Wikizionario/* content is CC BY-SA licensed. As alternative, I found a dictionary from the Boot2Gecko project, which seems to be complete enough (and includes English loanwords). https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia/blob/master/apps/keyboard/js/imes/latin/dictionaries/it_wordlist.xml A good thing is that dirty words are already marked, so they can be easily filtered out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-keyboard in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1591149 Title: Find more modern text for Italian word prediction Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The text used for word prediction in Italian [1] is IMHO not very suitable for the goal of predicting words typed into computers nowadays (especially on phones), fo a few reasons: - it's very old -- from 1868; particles like "cotesto", "pel", "pei" are not used anymore - it's mostly written in the "passato remoto" past tense, which is not that common in modern speech - it talks about history, with ample use of long and rarely used words. - dialogues are entirely missing I think it should be changed with a modern text, not without dialogues.
