[Touch-packages] [Bug 1434986] Re: Not working network connection after boot
I found a solution when there is no network just after booting: sudo pkill dnsmasq The network manager then automatically relaunch dnsmasq as you can see by typing: sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager status And it's OK ! So it seems to be a DNS related problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1434986 Title: Not working network connection after boot Status in NetworkManager: Expired Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Directly after boot the network connections are not working. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1653347] [NEW] [profile] netstat(8): ptrace and many DENIED messages (target=*).
Public bug reported: Hi In the last days, weeks I've noticed that running netstat(8) utility via sudo(8) is responsible for many entries in various log files, such as /var/log/kern.log or /var/log/syslog. I'm using this profile [1]. There are many DENIED messages but not related with, for example, lack of some rule etc. It looks this way; run i.e. `sudo netstat -talpn/tulpn` command and check log files - there are such entries: * /var/log/kern.log file: Nov 30 19:12:15 t4 kernel: [12380.946835] type=1400 audit(1480529535.149:812): apparmor="DENIED" operation="ptrace" parent=5014 profile="/bin/netstat" pid=5015 comm="netstat" target=B00280F4B00280F42701 Nov 30 19:12:15 t4 kernel: [12380.946850] type=1400 audit(1480529535.149:813): apparmor="DENIED" operation="ptrace" parent=5014 profile="/bin/netstat" pid=5015 comm="netstat" target=B00280F4B00280F42701 Nov 30 19:12:15 t4 kernel: [12380.946859] type=1400 audit(1480529535.149:814): apparmor="DENIED" operation="ptrace" parent=5014 profile="/bin/netstat" pid=5015 comm="netstat" target=B00280F4B00280F42701 Dec 6 15:27:11 t4 kernel: [ 816.591037] type=1400 audit(1481034431.811:45): apparmor="DENIED" operation="ptrace" parent=17598 profile="/bin/netstat" pid=17599 comm="netstat" target=B00280F4B00280F44B01 Dec 6 15:27:11 t4 kernel: [ 816.591069] type=1400 audit(1481034431.811:46): apparmor="DENIED" operation="ptrace" parent=17598 profile="/bin/netstat" pid=17599 comm="netstat" target=B00280F4B00280F44B01 Dec 6 15:27:11 t4 kernel: [ 816.591086] type=1400 audit(1481034431.811:47): apparmor="DENIED" operation="ptrace" parent=17598 profile="/bin/netstat" pid=17599 comm="netstat" target=B00280F4B00280F44B01 There are, of course, much more such entries - about 80. maybe more. As we can see the only one thing, which has changed, is "target=*" entry. According to Mr Steve Beattie, who's reproduced above issue, "converting the 'deny capability sys_ptrace,' to allowing the sys_ptrace capability made the rejections go away, as well as allowed netstat's -p argument to work. Attempts to add a ptrace rule instead did not succeed." Also, I've noticed that running netstat(8) as a normal user (without sudo(8) - just for a testing purposes), produced such entry in a log files: [~]$ netstat -ta / -tunl Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State /proc/net/tcp: Permission denied * /var/log/syslog file: Dec 31 13:19:02 t4 kernel: [ 3734.255210] type=1400 audit(1483186742.483:604): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" parent=3210 profile="/bin/netstat" name="/proc/3293/net/tcp" pid=3293 comm="netstat" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0 As we can see, there is only one DENIED message, but this time netstat(8) was run without 'p' flag, which is responsible for above logs with many target=* entries. So, does netstat(8) profile needs also a rule related to DENIED /proc/*/net/tcp? Something like: @{PROC}/[0-9]*/net/tcpr, AppArmor ver: 2.7.102-0ubuntu3.10, Description:Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, Release:12.04, Kernel: 3.2.0-120.163-generic-pae (3.2.79). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1636905] Re: Sound card not recognized on Dell Vostro 5568
An update: To sum up the previous posts in this thread: The problem with the internal Realtek ALC3246 soundcard of my Dell Vostro 5568 laptop in Ubuntu (tested with 16.04 and 16.10) seems to be related to the suspend function. The sound stops working after laptop is suspended and sound cannot be recovered unless Ubuntu (or Windows) is reinstalled. Workaround: I have now tested three USB sound cards to work around the issue with the internal sound card: - Deltaco UAC-03 (cheep, and bad sound quality but works out of the box ) - SD-UAUDV2-C119 SDM USB 2.0, 7.1 surround, Xear 3D (cheep, medium sound quality, works out of the box ) - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD (expensive, but excellent sound quality, SPDIF output is not working out of the box) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1636905 Title: Sound card not recognized on Dell Vostro 5568 Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I just reinstalled a fresh Ubuntu 16.10 on my Dell Vostro 5568 laptop. The audio controller on the laptop is a Realtek ALC3246 with Waves MaxxAudio Pro. The external interface connector is a microphone in/stereo headphones/external speakers connector. When I select "System Settings->Sound" the output device in the dialog window shows as "Dummy Output" and when I press the "Test Sound" button no sound is heard from either front left or front right speaker ( I have ensured sound is not muted ). Note: Before reinstalling, I asked a question on askubuntu, com: http://askubuntu.com/q/841759/156688 So reinstallation of Ubuntu 16.10 did not help on my sound problem. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1652585] Re: Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes
This has also happened to me since upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04 several months ago. It happens all too frequently, perhaps 1:5 to 1:8 resumes. I am running DWM, a dynamic tiling window manager, so perhaps the window manager running isn't important. I am up to date with updates. I'll dry the latest daily live image next. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652585 Title: Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Occasionally, when coming out of a suspend and getting past the light locker screen, font rendering broken. Application windows are missing most but not all letters, and text for icons on the desktop is blurry. Already open terminal windows won't have any text, but sometimes opening a new terminal window does have working text for the terminal, even though the text in the menu bar is broken. Programs like Thunderbird often still display text unless they are forced to re-render the window, at which point the fonts also disappear. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1653347] Re: [profile] netstat(8): ptrace and many DENIED messages (target=*).
The denial messages like target=B00280F4B00280F are caused by a kernel bug, in reporting the the profile name of the target of the ptrace. In general ptrace operations are controlled by both capability and ptrace rules. This is because within the kernel ptrace calls in to the capability code, and hence the capability hook without the security system having context of the reasons (semantics) for the capability request. So you will need the capability rule. Yes, netstat will also need a file rule like you described as it will walk parts of the proc filesystem as that is how it obtains information about the network connection. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apparmor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1653347 Title: [profile] netstat(8): ptrace and many DENIED messages (target=*). Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hi In the last days, weeks I've noticed that running netstat(8) utility via sudo(8) is responsible for many entries in various log files, such as /var/log/kern.log or /var/log/syslog. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1653386] [NEW] Gamepad not recognized as joystick
Public bug reported: I recently brought out my old bluetooth HID gamepad (iPEGA PG-9053) and was surprised to find that I didn't get any input in SDL games, though I know it used to work with older versions of Ubuntu (approximately 14.04 I think). KDE's "input devices" configuration would be able to perfectly read from /dev/input/js0 but many games failed to get any input from the gamepad. It turns out that the reason for this is that the event devices (/dev/input/event*) were not readable for the default Ubuntu user (crw- rw, group=input). It seems that only devices that are marked as Joysticks will have global read permission set for them. This means that apparently my humble gamepad was not detected as such. The following is the udev info for my gamepad: $ udevadm info --name=input/event21 P: /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.5/2-1.5.3/2-1.5.3:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:12/0005:1949:0402.000A/input/input31/event21 N: input/event21 E: BACKSPACE=guess E: DEVNAME=/dev/input/event21 E: DEVPATH=/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.5/2-1.5.3/2-1.5.3:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:12/0005:1949:0402.000A/input/input31/event21 E: ID_BUS=bluetooth E: ID_INPUT=1 E: ID_INPUT_KEY=1 E: ID_INPUT_KEYBOARD=1 E: ID_INPUT_MOUSE=1 E: LIBINPUT_DEVICE_GROUP=5/1949/402/11b:00:1a:7d:0a:ba:28 E: MAJOR=13 E: MINOR=85 E: SUBSYSTEM=input E: USEC_INITIALIZED=7821377694 E: XKBLAYOUT=us,il E: XKBMODEL=pc105 E: XKBOPTIONS=grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll E: XKBVARIANT=, $ udevadm test-builtin input_id /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.5/2-1.5.3/2-1.5.3:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:12/0005:1949:0402.000A/input/input31/event21 calling: test-builtin === trie on-disk === tool version: 231 file size: 7291492 bytes header size 80 bytes strings1819268 bytes nodes 5472144 bytes Load module index Found container virtualization none timestamp of '/etc/systemd/network' changed timestamp of '/lib/systemd/network' changed Parsed configuration file /lib/systemd/network/99-default.link Created link configuration context. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1623666] Re: iOS10 will not connect to Ubuntu
I'm not an expert, but it seems that the pace of Apple's OS changes and the updates needed by the libimobiledevice team to keep up with them might mean that one cannot rely on either Ubuntu's packaging of libimobiledevice or a separate ppa, but must just build things from the git repository, if you know how. This worked for me: 19 16:35 git clone https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice.git 20 16:35 cd libimobiledevice 21 16:35 ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr/local/libimobiledevice 22 16:36 make 23 16:36 sudo make install At this point I changed my LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include /usr/local/libimobiledevice/lib at the front, so ifuse, etc., will load the new library instead of the pre-installed one. I use tcsh so that command looks like setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/local/libimobiledevice/lib: Then the following worked (after some fidgeting, rebooting my iPod Touch, etc.): 37 16:44 idevicepair pair 38 16:45 ifuse /media/iPod/ At least I can load my music into Rhythmbox, etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to libimobiledevice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1623666 Title: iOS10 will not connect to Ubuntu Status in gnutls28 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in libimobiledevice package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Plug in iOS10 device, and it doesn't show the documents on it. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1652695] Re: GCE default NTP configuration uses both leap-smeared and true UTC sources
It appears that this is not a high priority issue, since the default NTP configuration will automatically exclude the leap-smearing source, given sufficient other good sources: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23720277/ However, we may want to consider changing the default ntp configuration to use 'server' rather than 'pool' for ntp.ubuntu.com, to ensure that it is included in the configuration at least once. ** Also affects: ntp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ntp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: cloud-images Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ntp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652695 Title: GCE default NTP configuration uses both leap-smeared and true UTC sources Status in cloud-images: New Status in ntp package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: A default install of cloud images on GCE results in a configuration of NTP which will likely be problematic during leap seconds, because it uses both Google's leap-smeared time source, and the public pool, which uses true UTC. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1653323] Re: Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized
Taking a full-screen screenshot of the problematic view (i.e. with a maximized terminal window full of text), and then viewing the screenshot at full screen, is displayed fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1653323 Title: Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The screen experiences severe flicker when using Nvidia 375.26 on a GTX 1070 in 16.10, Unity Desktop -- but only when the terminal is in the top left of the screen or maximized, and is full of text. I made a video illustrating the problem: http://damonlynch.net/share /Ubuntu1610screen-flicker.mp4 Driver is from the "graphics-drivers" PPA. At this point I don't know if it's a hardware problem or software problem -- I've never seen anything like it before.
