Title:
CUPS - Excessive Amounts of UDP Multicast Traffic for BJNP

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
It appears that the cups-browsed service as of Xenial (version
1.8.3-2ubuntu3.1) sends an excessive amount of UDP multicast requests
for ports 8610 (Canon MFNP) and 8612 (Canon BJNP) under unexpected
conditions and regardless of a presence or lack of Canon printer
  devices on the network.

This is manifested by enabling UFW, and observing multicast requests being
blocked that are sent from the host machine's network IPv4 or IPv6 address to
the multicast address, e.g.
  [UFW BLOCK] IN=wlp3s0 OUT= MAC= SRC=
DST=ff02:::::::0001 LEN=64 TC=0 HOPLIMIT=1
FLOWLBL=96642 PROTO=UDP SPT=8612 DPT=8612 LEN=24

  IN= OUT=wlan0 SRC=192.168.90.45 DST=192.168.91.255 LEN=44 TOS=0x00
  PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=7742 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=8612 DPT=8610 LEN=24

Users have observed that the requests can be reproduced when any USB device
is plugged/unplugged into the computer, regardless of whether the device has
anything to do with printing:
  https://twitter.com/gertvdijk/status/621790755758178304
  https://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=3094

Just Googling "udp 8612", shows are a large number of results on different
websites of people who have observed this behaviour in firewall and traffic
logs, and have noticed that it may contribute to network slowdown and latency:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/867739/what-is-this-traffic/867786

https://serverfault.com/questions/667376/watchguard-blocking-internal-udp-packets

  https://jehurst.wordpress.com/2016/01/22/small-victories/ recommends
disabling the cups-browsed service to stop these requests:
  systemctl stop cups-browsed.service
  systemctl disable cups-browsed.service

There are probably two things to address here:
  1. Connecting any USB device should not cause these requests unless the
device is actually a printer or directly related to printing.
  2. Requests independent of connecting USB devices should be rate limited to a
degree and/or should be dependent on the actual presence of a Canon printer
configured on the network.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 405294] Re: A2DP Bluetooth audio skips terribly ["Skipping NNN us (= MMM bytes) in audio stream"]

2017-11-26 Thread JoaoH
If it's any consolation, I mean I know this is an Ubuntu forum, but my
Manjaro system finally works with Bluetooth A2DP, no skipping and no
delay!

A few weeks ago some major updates were pushed and seems to be working
ever since.

Granted, the BT headphones connect as HSP and the default BT tools will
not switch it to A2DP, but that is where you download "BLUEMAN" and just
run through the setup for the particular device as Audio Sink. Once it
is connected, it is working and has been working for two weeks.

DELL XPS14 Core i7 with Atheros Wi-FI and BT card running Manjaro
Cinnamon Desktop 64bit.

Workaround with disabling bt_coex described here:

It _seemingly_ works for me, but this is not a solution

Bluetooth stops working shortly after connecting to WiFi

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On a Lenovo T570 laptop with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265, Wi-
  Fi, 2x2 802.11ac + BT4.2 chipset and a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10,
when using WiFi, bluetooth will stop working within a minute or two of
connecting to WiFI. Specifically a bluetooth mouse (Logitech
MXAnywhere2) will stop working under these circumstances and will not
work again until the laptop is restarted. This does not happen when
WiFi is not in use (no network or wired network). This did not happen
  at all in Ubuntu 17.04.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1554806] Re: Change of behavior: "dpkg-reconfigure -f noninteractive" unconditionally overwrites /etc/timezone now

2017-11-26 Thread Lars Kruse
According to the upstream package maintainer in Debian (Aurelien Jarno),
/etc/localtime is the authoritive source of information, while
/etc/timezone is just a Debian-specific artifact.

Thus the preferred approach for changing the timzone is indeed the
change of the /etc/localtime symlink, followed by dpkg-reconfigure.

See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=813226#10 and
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=848143#10.

Title:
Change of behavior: "dpkg-reconfigure -f noninteractive"
  unconditionally overwrites /etc/timezone now

Status in tzdata package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In previous versions it was possible to set the system's timezone by
  editing /etc/timezone before running "dpkg-reconfigure -f
  noninteractive tzdata".

This behavior changed, /etc/timezone gets overwritten unconditionally during
"dpkg-reconfigure -f noninteractive tzdata":
  ---
  root@xenial:/# echo "Europe/Berlin" > /etc/timezone
  root@xenial:/# cat /etc/timezone
  Europe/Berlin
  root@xenial:/# dpkg-reconfigure -f noninteractive tzdata

  Current default time zone: 'Etc/UTC'
Local time is now: Tue Mar 8 23:09:39 UTC 2016.
Universal Time is now: Tue Mar 8 23:09:39 UTC 2016.

  root@xenial:/# cat /etc/timezone
  Etc/UTC
  ---

As a workaround to programmatically set the timezone one now needs to point
"/etc/localtime" to the new timezone:
  ---
  root@xenial:/# ln -fs /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Berlin /etc/localtime
  root@xenial:/# ll /etc/localtime
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 Mar  9 00:48 /etc/localtime ->
/usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Berlin
  root@xenial:/# cat /etc/timezone
  Etc/UTC
  root@xenial:/# dpkg-reconfigure -f noninteractive tzdata

  Current default time zone: 'Europe/Berlin'
Local time is now: Wed Mar 9 00:49:05 CET 2016.
Universal Time is now: Tue Mar 8 23:49:05 UTC 2016.

  root@xenial:/# cat /etc/timezone
  Europe/Berlin

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734586] [NEW] Merge NetworkManager with Debian 1.10.0-1

2017-11-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Debian has packaged the latest major release of NetworkManager, 1.10. We
should update to this version for Ubuntu 18.04 "bionic".

I have prepared the merge at
https://git.launchpad.net/network-manager?h=bionic

The only thing missing is that this patch needs to be rebased or dropped:
https://git.launchpad.net/network-manager/tree/debian/patches/dns-manager-don-t-merge-split-DNS-search-domains.patch?h=bionic

Otherwise, the build will fail:

src/.libs/libNetworkManagerTest.a(src_libNetworkManager_la-nm-dns-manager.o):
In function `merge_one_ip_config_data':
./src/dns/nm-dns-manager.c:417: undefined reference to
`nm_ip4_config_get_never_default'
./src/dns/nm-dns-manager.c:419: undefined reference to
`nm_ip4_config_get_never_default'

There's been a lot of refactoring, but this commit looks important:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=5c29945

** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Wishlist
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1464321] Re: No sound output through docking station headphones jack for Dell Latitude E5450

2017-11-26 Thread Larry Brown
I have a Dell D630 Latitude laptop plugged into a Dell PR01X port
replicator/dock station. I have been struggling with this problem, too.
I solved my problem by changing the configuration in "Pulse Audio Volume
Control" from "Analog Duplex" to "Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output +
Analog Stereo Input". Playback through the audio headphone jack in the
dock station works.

Yep thanks for that. I filled in the report that automatically popped up
on when the system errored; I didn't want to contradict the auto-filled-
in fields, I assumed it knew more about what had gone wrong than I did
:)

Thanks for your work, it's appreciated!

Stepped away from desk; when I came back I was locked out.
I didn't recognize the lock screen.
There was no way to log back into the session, no password prompt etc.
I switched to a VT and monitored top for a while: "artful" was minimally
active, but never about 2% CPU and memory never changed; I guessed it was
waiting for a user prompt which I'd never be able to give, so I rebooted.
I got this error on boot.

The system is now usable. I've done `dpkg configure -a; apt upgrade`
and it's all working as I'd expect.

worthy continue wasting time in a S.O that it's maintainers do not care

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734447] Re: BN_cmp regards negative and positive zero as different numbers

2017-11-26 Thread Guido
This also affects BN_mod_add(-0, -0, 10) (result should be 0, but is 10)

Title:
BN_cmp regards negative and positive zero as different numbers

Status in openssl package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  "BN_cmp() returns -1 if a < b, 0 if a == b and 1 if a > b." (
  https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/Manual:BN_cmp(3) )

The libcrypto.a shipped with Ubuntu makes a distinction between a
negative 0 ("-0") and a positive zero ("0"). This means that
  BN_cmp(-0, 0) returns -1 and BN_cmp(0, -0) returns 1. The latest
versions of OpenSSL (1.0.2m and 1.1.0g) both return 0 for both
comparisons, which is what you would expect.

  lsb_release -rd:

  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
  Release: 16.04

Tested on both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of this Ubuntu release.

Attached is a proof of concept.

The anomaly may also be caused by BN_dec2bn rather than BN_cmp.

The bug is unlikely to have direct security consequences, but may
cause unexpected behaviour in other applications that depend on this
  widespread library.

Title:
  Translations not imported from upstream

Status in Launchpad itself:
  New
Status in Ubuntu Translations:
  New
Status in util-linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The listing of Ubuntu source package translations (for Danish) reveals
that the last import of translations for util-linux happened in 2011:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/artful/+lang/da/+index?batch=300=300=300

The Ubuntu source package version is 2.30, which appears to be from
2017 (on my Ubuntu 16.04 it is 2.27 which is also relatively new).
Either way it should have imported the translations from 2017. Indeed
util-linux has been translated very well in Danish for quite a few
  years:

  https://translationproject.org/domain/util-linux.html

More precisely, 4000 translations are available and they have not been
imported for (apparently) 6 years, leaving Danish at the level of 600
  strings.

I suspect this is not really an issue with the util-linux source
package, but rather with the whole Ubuntu/Launchpad translations
workflow. I can see that several packages have similar problems, and
that is probably just the tip of the iceberg. Unfortunately I have no
clue how to approach that - at least I cannot file a bug report
against The Whole Thing. So if someone could speak to someone who
could speak to someone who can actually get this to work, it would
  also be extremely good.

Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial, and pulseaudio version 8.0-0ubuntu3.4

  [Impact]

   * This bug prevents users (currently Project Halium, UBports, Plasma Mobile)
from using the pulseaudio-modules-droid on android devices.
   * This behavior can be seen in Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 with xenial-updates
enabled.
   * Last 3 releases of pulseaudio included multiple patches which modified
behavior of pulsecore library but required changes were not made in
pulseaudio-module-droid.
   * This results in crash in pulseaudio-modules-droid

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1655431] Re: apt-helper / update-notifier / ttf-mscorefonts-installer download failure (regression)

2017-11-26 Thread Boris Rybalkin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1651923 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1651923

Was able to fix sf mirrors issue by replacing sf mirror with some github
copy:

sudo sed -i
's#http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts#https://github.com/pushcx/corefonts/raw/master#g'
/usr/share/package-data-downloads/ttf-mscorefonts-installer

Then run:
sudo /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader

All downloaded and good.

Title:
  apt-helper / update-notifier / ttf-mscorefonts-installer download
  failure (regression)

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  * OS release: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  * Package version: 3.168.3

For the past few days (maybe even weeks for other users), update-
notifier has been very repeatedly failing to handle the downloads for
ttf-mscorefonts-installer. Previously it was working fine on the same
  system.

This seems to affect a lot of desktop users, but the issue is usually
misdiagnosed on forums because it is attributed to ttf-mscorefonts-
  installer and not to update-notifier-common.

The issue is made particularly irritating because the update-notifier
cron job tries and fails and notifies users daily of this failure.

The issue can be reproduced by having ttf-mscorefonts-installer
  installed, and running:

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure update-notifier-common

The error messages seem to be random but actually appear to be
consistent for a given download source:

  * freefr.dl.sourceforge.net: 404  Not Found
  * kent.dl.sourceforge.net: Protocol "http" not supported or disabled in
libcurl
  * netassist.dl.sourceforge.net: The HTTP server sent an invalid Content-Range
header Bad header data [IP: 62.205.134.42 80]
  * netcologne.dl.sourceforge.net: The HTTP server sent an invalid
Content-Range header
  * netix.dl.sourceforge.net: 404  Not Found
  * vorboss.dl.sourceforge.net: 404  Not Found

In all above cases, the reported failing URL can be downloaded just
  fine using wget.

Some other mirrors appear to work (unfortunately, mirror names are
only printed in case of errors). However, since ttf-mscorefonts-
installer triggers 11 downloads in a row, chances of randomly getting
11 working mirrors are very low.

I am tagging this as regression-update because the issue started
happening when upgrading from 3.168.2 to 3.168.3 last Friday. It is of
course entirely possible the root cause is in another package, but
this would also likely be a regression-update, since I am very careful
about system-wide changes on this machine.

The previous update from 3.168.1 to 3.168.2 on November 4th went just
fine. ttf-mscorefonts-installer has been installed (just fine) on
September 26th, and not upgraded since then.

I'm experiencing a bug similar to bug 1710637 with Ubuntu 17.10 again.

  Test Case
  -
  schroot -u root -c trusty-amd64
  edit /etc/apt/sources.list to xenial
  apt-get update
  apt-get install console-setup
use alt+tab to bring up the window switcher
then use alt+arrow to switch windows

I then end up at the gdm login screen or a virtual tty.

Installing a different set of packages, via apt-get dist-upgrade,
actually ended up killing my desktop session.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734520] [NEW] Enable atomic write support for f2fs

2017-11-26 Thread Park Ju Hyung
Public bug reported:

SQLite 3.21 supports atomic write to boost performance quite a lot for
f2fs partitions.

As I looked into 3.21's buildlog, Ubuntu didn't supply the build flag to
enable atomic write.

Please add -DSQLITE_ENABLE_BATCH_ATOMIC_WRITE to the build flag and
enable atomic write support.

Thanks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1724919] Re: Bluetooth headphones only use A2DP when connected manually

2017-11-26 Thread Erik Sjölund
I have the same problem with the headset Sony MDR-1000X and Ubuntu
17.10. I have to first disconnect and then connect to get the A2DP
profile to work.

Bluetooth headphones only use A2DP when connected manually

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Issue with Sony MDR-1ABT Bluetooth headphones:
Once paired, the headphones will be connected automatically whenever they are
switched on. However when connected this way, only the HSP/HFP profile will
work and trying to change to A2DP in sound settings does nothing.
If the headphones are then manually disconnected and reconnected from
Bluetooth settings, they will initially use HSP/HFP but then selecting A2DP in
sound settings will successfully make them use A2DP.
