[Touch-packages] [Bug 1716203] Re: Backport packages for 16.04.4 HWE stack

2017-12-26 Thread Pranav Sharma
This update fixes a bug that was in the last xorg update:
https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php/72149-Mouse-artifact-
introduced-in-7-26-update - I think the promotion of this to stable will
be very helpful for kde neon. Tested on my laptop, the bug is gone.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  *** hwe-16.04 refresh for 16.04.4 ***

A minor update, only some driver updates plus a newer Mesa.

Mesa needs llvm-toolchain-5.0 and libclc, libdrm, wayland-protocols
  updates.

  [Test case]

upgrade from/to stock & old hwe stack, test desktop usage

  [Regression potential]

  libdrm:
Slim to none, changes from 2.4.76 to 2.4.83
  - amdgpu: pci-id handling moved here, new pci-ids, bugfixes, tests
  - intel: new pci-ids
  - drm: leak fixes, manpage updates
  - exynos, etnaviv, freedreno, android: fixes, new stuff

  wayland-protocols:
None, just adds a few protocol definitions (xml files)

  llvm-toolchain-5.0:
  None, a new package

  libclc:
I'd say none, very little has changed, added support for llvm-5 is the main
reason for this slightly newer snapshot

  xorg-server:
Slim, it's an upstream bugfix release, changes from 1.19.3 to 1.19.5 include:
  - security fixes
  - backported bugfixes to glamor, modesetting driver, xwayland etc

  mesa:
New major release plus a few bugfix updates after that. Regressions at this
point are less likely. Upstream is tested by Intel CI system for instance. And
we're already testing it via a ppa on OEM systems for 16.04.4. Tracking bug for
the bugfix release (xenial & artful) is bug 1727390

  [Other information]

build order: [libdrm, wayland-protocols, llvm-toolchain-5.0], [libclc,
  xorg-server], mesa

Bug description:
  SRU Document:

  [Impact]

If users use the latest Dell USB Dock, e.g. TB16, they will found the
analog audio (lineout jack) can't work under ubuntu linux

  [Test Case]

After applying the fix, users can play sound via analog speaker or
lineout freely. Without the fix, users can't play sound from lineout
  jack.

  [Regression Potential]

No any possibility to introduce regression since this fix just adding
a new dock's support, it does not change any existing code.

  [Other Info]

  No more info here

  Steps:
  1. Cold boot system with BME/IE connected
  2. Plug in a speaker to Line-out jack
  3. Set Analog Stereo Output from Sound settings

Expected results: Line-out port can work

Actual results: Line-out port not work

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1740214] [NEW] Ubuntu patch to perl causes problem

2017-12-26 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu patched perl to work around a libc compatibility issue, but there
is a problem.

Please see the perl bug report at

   https://rt.perl.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=132631

Here is an excerpt from the linked-to perl bug:

...the relevant Ubuntu change:

http://deriv.debian.net/patches/p/perl/Debian_perl_5.26.0-8_Ubuntu_perl_5.26.0-8ubuntu1.debian.patch

Ubuntu's adding zero to SIG_NUM looks wrong and the probable cause of this bug
to me.
SIGUNUSED is 31 (alias for SIGSYS) on at least all the Debian architectures
where it exists
in the first place, and Perl_magic_setsig() gives the warning reported here
('No such signal')
when the signal number is zero or negative. So I think this can only be fixed
in Ubuntu,
and presumably somebody needs to file a Ubuntu bug for that to happen.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10
Package: perl 5.26.0-8ubuntu1 [modified: usr/bin/perldoc]
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-21.24-generic 4.13.13

Title:
Ubuntu patch to perl causes problem

Status in perl package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Ubuntu patched perl to work around a libc compatibility issue, but
  there is a problem.

Please see the perl bug report at

 https://rt.perl.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=132631

Here is an excerpt from the linked-to perl bug:

  ...the relevant Ubuntu change:

http://deriv.debian.net/patches/p/perl/Debian_perl_5.26.0-8_Ubuntu_perl_5.26.0-8ubuntu1.debian.patch

Ubuntu's adding zero to SIG_NUM looks wrong and the probable cause of this
bug to me.

Bug description:
  SRU Document:

  [Impact]

If users use the latest Dell USB Dock, e.g. TB16, they will found the
analog audio (lineout jack) can't work under ubuntu linux

  [Test Case]

After applying the fix, users can play sound via analog speaker or
lineout freely. Without the fix, users can't play sound from lineout
  jack.

  [Regression Potential]

No any possibility to introduce regression since this fix just adding
a new dock's support, it does not change any existing code.

  [Other Info]

  No more info here

  Steps:
  1. Cold boot system with BME/IE connected
  2. Plug in a speaker to Line-out jack
  3. Set Analog Stereo Output from Sound settings

Expected results: Line-out port can work

Actual results: Line-out port not work

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1308200] Re: apt-get not RFC6555 (Happy Eyeballs) compliant

Title:
apt-get not RFC6555 (Happy Eyeballs) compliant

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in apt package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
Disclaimer: I'm not sure if this is a bug, or a feature. If it is not
a bug, I think reporting this issue is useful anyway because it causes
long delays in apt-get install / apt-get update.

On dual-stack setups (IPv4 and IPv6), if one of the two paths is slow
or non-functional at all, the overall application experience can be
  slow.

An application that uses a Happy Eyeballs (RFC 6555) algorithm checks
both IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity (with a preference for IPv6) and uses
the first connection that is returned. This has been implemented in,
  for example, Chrome and Firefox.

apt / apt-get does not have this functionality. Due to this lack, a
apt-get run can be very slow: a "sudo apt-get update" can take up to
  15 minutes on a system with a non-functional IPv6 connection, even if
the system is already uptodate, which normally only takes 15 seconds
  or so.

  "man apt.conf" shows this info:

 ForceIPv4
When downloading, force to use only the IPv4 protocol.

 ForceIPv6
When downloading, force to use only the IPv6 protocol.

So no feature "RFC6555" or "HappyEyeballs".

An ugly work-around is this: Create a file
  /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99timeout with these contents

  Acquire::http::Timeout "2";
  Acquire::ftp::Timeout "2";

That way, after 2 seconds the other path is chosen.

  Easily reproducible : apt-get install mesa-vulkan-drivers apt-get install
vulkan-utils

Open a terminal type vulkan-smoketest instead of a glxgears type window it
will segfault.
  message from kernel.log:
  Sep 29 16:23:53 Tardis-1 kernel: [17709.532915] vulkan-smoketes[11798]:

libvulkan_radeon.so[7f627053b000+18b000]

What should happen is a glxgears like window will open and render properly
instead of segfaulting.
It appears that the culprit is an old or broken libvulkan_radeon.so provided
by mesa-vulkan-drivers.

As a test I renamed the old lib and dropped in a newer version from
oibaf's ppa. smoketest now passes steam's The Talos Princible and Mad
Max now work properly in Vulkan mode as well instead of segfaulting.

This issue is also present on Zesty and fixed in both Oibaf's and
Padoka's ppa's since April back when they were rolling 17.2 mesa.

I have no idea if libvulkan_intel.so also needs updating no hardware
  to check.

Status in apt package in Debian:

  Acquire::http::Timeout "2";
  Acquire::ftp::Timeout "2";

That way, after 2 seconds the other path is chosen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

Bug description:
GNOME removed type-ahead find in Nautilus 3.6, not without
  controversy:

  https://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-
  list/2012-August/msg2.html

Now when you type in a Nautilus window, Nautilus immediately performs
a search in the current directory and all its subdirectories. I
personally find this annoying. If I want to search, I'll click the
search icon. Often I'm looking at a long directory listing and simply
want to jump to a certain point in it, and type-ahead find works great
  for that.

Would Ubuntu consider patching type-ahead find back in?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1740161] [NEW] Update supported-misc-servers for postgresql

2017-12-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

At the top of platform.bionic supported-misc-servers is

Database:

 * postgresql-plperl-9.5
 * postgresql-plpython-9.5
 * postgresql-plpython3-9.5
 * postgresql-pltcl-9.5

Please check whether those lines are still necessary. If so, please
update them (postgresql-10 is current) and maybe converted them to
wildcards.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1740159] Re: Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): device recognized by file manager but not by media players / managers

2017-12-26 Thread indigocat
** Description changed:

Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): when mounting in file manager, the access
address afc://[device uuid] appends a ":3" at the end, so it turns to
afc://[uuid]:3, which the file manager shows as an empty location.

- Removing the ":3" at the end and entering afc://[device uuid] manualy
- shows the iPod's root filesystem, which could in theory be managed by
- gtkpod, Rhythmbox or Banshee.
+ There are 2 devices / mount points after connecting the iPod and opening a
file manager:
+ -"iPod"; when clicking "properties", the protocol used for it is gphoto2://
(?)
+ -"iPod Documentation"; this mount point is opened via afc://[device uuid],
and should show the iPod's root file system.
+ Removing the ":3" at the end and entering afc://[device uuid] manually shows
the iPod's root filesystem, which could in theory be managed by gtkpod,
Rhythmbox or Banshee.

However, I can't seem to find a way to disable the arbitrary ":3" added
automatically by the mounter.
This behaviour began after updating the library (it has worked fine before,
in the same OS in 2 different machines, being able to transfer music files).

I've googled for a week looking for a similar problem reported, and none was
found so far, hence the bug report.
- Please let me know what other culprit there may be, to begin pinpointing the
cause somewhere else, if necessary. (gvfs, perhaps?)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1720890] Re: vulkan-smoketest segfaults steam vulkan games segfault

2017-12-26 Thread Florian W.
Using artful, I updated these packages (everything that used to have version
"17.2.2-0ubuntu1" on my system) to version "17.2.4-0ubuntu1~17.10.1" from
-proposed:
libegl1-mesa:amd64 libgbm1:amd64 libgl1-mesa-dev:amd64 libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64
libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 libgl1-mesa-glx:i386
libglapi-mesa:amd64 libglapi-mesa:i386 libgles2-mesa:amd64
libwayland-egl1-mesa:amd64 libxatracker2:amd64 mesa-common-dev:amd64
mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 mesa-vulkan-drivers:amd64

After a reboot, I can confirm Lawrence's observation that vulkan-
smoketest segfaulted on the old version, but seems to work fine using
the version from -proposed.

Since Lawrence forgot to remove the verification-needed-artful tag, I'm
going to remove it now.

libvulkan_radeon.so[7f627053b000+18b000]

I have no idea if libvulkan_intel.so also needs updating no hardware
  to check.

Thanks for reporting.

There's already bug 1732566 requesting a newer version of the protobuf

that it also has a bug watch for a corresponding Debian bug report)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1732032] Re: ip maddr show and ip maddr show dev enP20p96s0 show different data

2017-12-26 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I had a super nice and detailed reply written here, but of course I lost
it. Browsers are stupid things sometimes. So here are the comments that
survived.

TL;DR:
firejail is known to fail on s390 because there is no thunderbird package for a
mainframe. I emailed ubuntu-devel@ and also pinged #ubuntu-devel on irc.
Switching the test bed from a container to a VM for s390 a while back allowed
this new test to run.

Others are green, with the exception of trusty:
a) armhf: fails copying the device /dev/null elsewhere with -a, which equates
to creating a device outside of tmp, which is forbidden. Last time this worked
was when the test bed was on lxc in 2016. On lxd it doesn't work. The other
architectures are not using lxd. We should probably add a constraint so that
the test only runs in vms. Should it be added to the current SRU package for
trusty?

b) ppc: a grub error:
Generating grub configuration file ...
grub-probe: error: not a directory.
run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-grub exited with return code 1

I pinged #ubuntu-devel about it, since I have no idea how to setup and
run a ppc vm, but got no response:

https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2017/12/07/%23ubuntu-devel.html#t19:33

ahasenack is there something going on with setting up ppc64el autopkg
tests in excuses? I have 3 different packages failing there with the same error
19:33
ahasenack grub-probe: error: not a directory. 19:33
ahasenack run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-grub exited with
return code 1  19:33
ahasenack in trusty 19:33
ahasenack

 is one of them

Got no response. I don't even know if grub is used in ppc.

Regarding amd64 smoke test, I've been using the updated package on my machine
(artful/amd64).

Bug description:
  [Impact]
When a nic has a long enough name such that there is no space between the
name and the ":" in /proc/net/igmp, ip maddr show dev will miss the IPV4
addresses which is otherwise shown with "ip maddr show".

This is inconsistent behavior and can break scripts and tests, as
shown in this bug's original description.

Three patches from upstream were taken to fix this bug, and they were used
individually instead of being merged into one single patch so it's easier to
track and recognize authorship:

  [Test Case]
  * deploy the ubuntu release under test. Please use bare metal or a VM instead
of containers, because the ip tool parses a file in /proc. Make sure iproute2
is installed:
  sudo apt install iproute2

  * Run these commands to setup a dummy interface with a long name and
an IPv4 address. Please change the address if it conflicts with a real
network you might have available on that machine:

sudo ip link add dummylongnic0 type dummy
sudo ip addr add 192.168.199.10/24 dev dummylongnic0
sudo ip link set dev dummylongnic0 up

  * Compare the output of these two commands with regards to the dummylongnic0
interface:
  sudo ip maddr show
sudo ip maddr show dev dummylongnic0

  * With the buggy iproute2 package installed, the more specific output "ip
maddr show dev dummylongnic0" should lack the "inet 224.0.0.1" line:
  ip maddr show dev dummylongnic0
  2:dummylongnic0
link 33:33:00:00:00:01
link 01:00:5e:00:00:01
inet6 ff02::1
inet6 ff01::1

Whereas the less specific command, which lists all interfaces, will have it
listed for dummylongnic0:
  2:dummylongnic0
link 33:33:00:00:00:01
link 01:00:5e:00:00:01
inet 224.0.0.1
inet6 ff02::1
inet6 ff01::1

  * With the fixed iproute2 package, all dummylongnic0 addresses will be
present in both outputs.

  [Regression Potential]
In the end, the ip tool is parsing a text file produced by the kernel. As
most parsing done in C, it's
