[Touch-packages] [Bug 1759836]

2018-09-13 Thread ysg
I also observed in my Dell laptop similar to Szymon that it relates to
Touchpad.

My workarounds-
Soon after booting, stopping and starting systed-udev eliminates all bind and
unbind problems and response drastically improves. I used the following
commands in sequence-

sudo systemctl stop systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket systemd-
udevd-control.socket

sudo systemctl start systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket systemd-
udevd-control.socket

My understanding-
Before all hardware is discovered properly, bind/unbind start executing when no
procedures are available and does not get reinitialized. After stopping and
starting, it gets all the procedures in place. Probably, it is booting sequence
problem.

Unforunately, I believe this is an issue with the MOTU Ultralite AVB.
Several people are actively trying to solve it over here:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1792326] Re: Pulse audio problems

2018-09-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK.

Please:

1. Open 'Settings'. If you can't find it just tap the Windows key and
type 'Settings'.

2. In Settings go to 'Sound' and choose the 'Applications' tab.

3. Reduce the volume for the affected app (while the app is running),
and if that doesn't work then reduce the main 'Output volume' slider.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2018-09-13 Thread Jan-Jonas Sämann
This stupid behavior isn't only inconvinient,

-> this really BREAKS FUNCTIONALITY if you work on network resources.

Especially in Germany where possible internet speeds in many locations
do not exeed well known dialup connection speeds.

What happens then is a complete lockup on nautilus while the filelists
are queried again from the remote site. This usually takes minutes to
complete.

Now when you type in a Nautilus window, Nautilus immediately performs
a search in the current directory and all its subdirectories. I
personally find this annoying. If I want to search, I'll click the
search icon. Often I'm looking at a long directory listing and simply
want to jump to a certain point in it, and type-ahead find works great
  for that.

Would Ubuntu consider patching type-ahead find back in?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 878986] Re: amixer -q sset Master toggle does mute, but does not unmute!

2018-09-13 Thread jimbo1qaz
I need this bug to be fixed. The issue is I am routing Pulseaudio
through JACK plugin, and "amixer -D pulse" only mutes apps playing
through PulseAudio but not JACK Audio, and is consequently not a working
solution for me.

   * We now ignore if the key isn't present and just consider the answer as

  [Test Case]
   * Install apport 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.1
   * Generate a crash but don't report it.
   * Upgrade to apport apport 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.3
   * Report this crash.
-> No apport crash should be triggered

  [Regression Potential]
   * We are doing a python2 compatible try/except to ignore the KeyError which
was the regression. It doesn't seem it can trigger other regressions.

I received this crash today and I believe it happened because I had

  [Regression Potential]
   * We are doing a python2 compatible try/except to ignore the KeyError which
was the regression. It doesn't seem it can trigger other regressions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1639513] Re: Pango-WARNING **: shaping failure, expect ugly output

2018-09-13 Thread Tong Sun
That's an entirely different issue, as Manfred has put it,

This is support for Ubuntu only, and not for other operating systems
"based on Ubuntu" like elementary OS.

No matter how close you think yours is to Ubuntu, if it is not then it
is not.

Please don't spill your own problem over to other unrelated issues.
Thanks.

Title:
Pango-WARNING **: shaping failure, expect ugly output

Status in pango1.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Exactly as reported in
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1396048, which
was marked as "Invalid" because it is reporting to the wrong package.

  The problem from that post:

  Console:

  $ evince

(evince:8959): Pango-WARNING **: failed to create cairo scaled font, expect
ugly output. the offending font is 'Ubuntu 11'
  (evince:8959): Pango-WARNING **: font_face status is: out of memory
  (evince:8959): Pango-WARNING **: scaled_font status is: out of memory
(evince:8959): Pango-WARNING **: shaping failure, expect ugly output.
shape-engine='BasicEngineFc', font='Ubuntu 11', text='●'

As for mine, it is basically the same:

(process:13924): Pango-WARNING **: failed to create cairo scaled font, expect
ugly output. the offending font is '微软雅黑 9'
  (process:13924): Pango-WARNING **: font_face status is: file not found
  (process:13924): Pango-WARNING **: scaled_font status is: file not found
(process:13924): Pango-WARNING **: shaping failure, expect ugly output.
shape-engine='PangoFcShapeEngine', font='微软雅黑 9', text='Ayg'

  As the result,

For the original reported, "some font and only displays squares in
menus, text is displayed okay,", but for me, everything are displays
as squares in menus, including English texts.

However, my rxvt-unicode, which uses the 微软雅黑 font, display correctly
  without any problem.

The cause of the problem, is also exactly as described in the original
  post:

It happens because of symlinks from /usr/share/fonts to a different
partition. For the original reporter, some fonts are symlinked, and
for me 微软雅黑 is symlinked to a different partition. Thus his is missing
some text, while I'm missing everything.

symlinking fonts to a different partition is quite harmless in my
view, and Pango should not treat them any differently.

This only happens since Ubuntu 16.04. In Ubuntu 15.10, it was OK.

My current Pango related packages that exhibit such problem:

   gir1.2-pango-1.0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libcogl-pango20:amd64_1.22.0-2
   libpango-1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libpango-perl_1.227-1
   libpango1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libpangocairo-1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libpangoft2-1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libpangomm-1.4-1v5:amd64_2.38.1-1
   libpangox-1.0-0:amd64_0.0.2-5
   libpangoxft-1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1

  Please look into it. Thx.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 520546] Re: Alt-f2 switches to virtual terminal 2

2018-09-13 Thread Tuomas Suutari
I can reproduce the bug in Ubuntu 18.04.1 by re-configuring keyboard-
configuration package (version 1.178ubuntu2.7) with DISPLAY being
unset/empty, e.g.:

tuomas@matta:~ 0 $ sudo DISPLAY= DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive \
   dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration
update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)
Processing triggers for initramfs-tools (0.130ubuntu3.1) ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-33-generic

And after running this Alt+F2 switches to VT2 even from X11. When
switching back to X11 (with Alt+F1), it appears that the Alt+F2 also
goes to X11, since the krunner popup opens (bound to Alt+F2).

Running "sudo kbd_mode -s" in a terminal window within X11 makes the
Alt+Fx keys act normally again.

view, and Pango should not treat them any differently.

This only happens since Ubuntu 16.04. In Ubuntu 15.10, it was OK.

My current Pango related packages that exhibit such problem:

   gir1.2-pango-1.0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libcogl-pango20:amd64_1.22.0-2
   libpango-1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libpango-perl_1.227-1
   libpango1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libpangocairo-1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libpangoft2-1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1
   libpangomm-1.4-1v5:amd64_2.38.1-1
   libpangox-1.0-0:amd64_0.0.2-5
   libpangoxft-1.0-0:amd64_1.38.1-1

  Please look into it. Thx.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
As part of allowing Ubuntu users to enable canonical-livepatch from
software-properties GUI
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareUpdates#Update_settings) we need to backport
python3-macaroonbakery 0.0.6-1 [universe] from bionic. This will requires quite
few changes:

  - backport httmock 1.2.6-1 [universe] from bionic - no httmock in xenial
  - backport pymacaroons 0.12.0-1 [universe] from bionic - xenial has
0.9.2-0ubuntu1
  - SRU some changes in google-apputils-python -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/google-apputils-python/+bug/1735162
  - add python3-protobuf to python-protobuf 2.6.1-1.3 - Right now the python3
package is not built.

  [Test case]
  - for protobuf: $ python3 -c "import google.protobuf"
  - for protobuf: $ python2 -c "import google.protobuf"
  - for python3-macaroonbakery: make sure all the tests pass
  - make sure "snapcraft login" works properly

  [Regression Potential]
  - httmock, none has it's not in xenial
  - protobuf, reduced considering that the code has been backported from master
(small changes to make it compatabile py3 compatabile)
  - pymacaroons, none has 0.12 is backward compatible with 0.9.2
  - py-macaroon-bakery, none has it's not in xenial.

I'd like to update the toolchain packages in bionic, to state which we

   - LP: #1771635: binutils updates from the branch
   - gcc-8, update to the final 8.1.0 release
   - gcc-7, updates to the gcc-7-branch up to the time of the
     8.1.0 release.
   - gcc-defaults to bump the 8.1 version, and add some provides
   - build-essential to add cross packages for amd64 and i386
   - corresponding gcc-cross packages

The package builds are prepared in
  https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain-r/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages

  [Impact]
Provide an upstream release for GCC 8, and update GCC 7 fixes to the
date of the corresponding GCC 8 updates.

  [Regression Potential]
There is regression potential, however with a test rebuild of the main
portion of the archive no regressions were found.

  [Test Case]
No regressions in the GCC test suite, and no regressions in the test
rebuild of the main component of the archive (all architectures)

As a test, a complete archive rebuild (main only) was performed, and
no regressions were found with this new package. The archive rebuild
also contained updated versions of gcc-7, gcc-8, binutils, python3.6
and python3.7. The GCC and Python packages should not infer with each
  other.

  [Validation]
Analyze the build logs for regressions.
For the cross builds, just make sure that the packages build using
  the updated sources.

http://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20180730-gcc-bionic.html

Kernels not autoremoving, causing out of space error on LVM or

  gets full

Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Currently if one chooses to use LVM or encrypted install, a /boot
  partition is created of 236Mb

Once kernel updates start being released this partition soon fills
until people are left unable to upgrade.

While you and I might know that we need to watch partition space, many
of the people we have installing think that a windows disk is a disk
and not a partition, education is probably the key - but in the
meantime support venues keep needing to deal with the fact the
partition is too small and/or old kernels are not purged as new ones
  install.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1675079] Re: 16.04 LTS Partition /boot fills up with Kernel images, gets underwear in a twist

2018-09-13 Thread Balint Reczey
Fixed update-manager is stuck in phasing because it triggered old bugs
like LP: #1791931 with the removals.

If you run sudo apt-get install update-manager to bypass phasing it will
remove the old kernels which are not marked manually installed.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Update-manager and unattended-upgrades install many kernel packages during
the lifetime of a release but does not remove them automatically leading to
those packages filling disk space potentially completely filling /boot and
making the system unable to install updates or even boot.
   * Stable release users are impacted by this bug for years and their systems
already collected many autoremovable unused kernel packages, thus they would
benefit from backporting the fix greatly.
   * The bug is fixed by removing autoremovable (not currently booted) kernel
packages when running unattended-upgrades or update-manager. Update manager
offers the kernel removals when there are other updates to be installed.

  [Test Case]

   1. Install kernel packages to be removed, mark them auto-installed
and run apt's kernel hook script to make apt consider them
  autoremovable:

    sudo apt install -y linux-image-extra-4.4.0-92-generic
linux-image-extra-4.4.0-93-generic
    sudo apt-mark auto linux-image-extra-4.4.0-92-generic
linux-image-extra-4.4.0-93-generic
    sudo /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal

   2. Also downgrade a package to be upgraded:

     sudo apt-get install -y --allow-downgrades ca-
  certificates=20160104ubuntu1

   3. (update-manager). Run update-manager and observe that kernel
packages are offered for removal in Details of updates.

    sudo update-manager

   4. (update-manager) Click on Install Now and observe that the kernel
  packages are removed.

   3. (unattended-upgrades) Run unattended-upgrades manually and observe
the removal of the autoremovable kernel packages:

    sudo unattended-upgrade -v

  [Regression Potential]

The change may cause update-manager or unattanded-upgrades to remove
used kernel packages or fail to install other package updates.

  [Other Info]

The unattended-upgrades fix is uploaded with many other fixes and
those may cause regressions in other areas in unattended-upgrades.

  [Original bug text]

On a 16.04LTS system, the /boot partition will eventually fill with
Kernel images, until the point where "apt-get autoremove" can't
  complete.

This issue has previously been reported as fixed, but it is not fixed:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unattended-upgrades/+bug/1357093

Generally what I see is the final kernel image that fills the drive is
incompletely installed (the header package does not make it). "apt-
get autoremove" tries to work, but fails. I must manually remove
kernel images to free enough space.

I see this on a machine used by my elderly parents, where 'Download
and install updates automatically' is set. And on my home machines,
  where the setting is elsewhere.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1792358] Re: Update to 2.0.0 (next cycle or ffe)

2018-09-13 Thread Matthias Klose
Usually it's good enough to update the Ubuntu packaging with a new
upstream version. In any case Debian and Ubuntu will always have a
delta because of the different JPEG version support (6 vs 8).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1780332] Re: vaultlocker does not ensure that udev is triggered to create /dev/disk/by-uuid/ symlink and fails

2018-09-13 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I'm not sure what vaultlocker is.

trigger might be appropriate together with a '--settle' flag, if/where
available.

instead of manually opening things, i'd expect crypttab to be adjusted
with `systemctl daemon-reload` re-run to regenerated systemd-cryptsetup@
units and "open" the encrytped device using systemd-cryptsetup@ instance
unit However that might be "too" systemd specific for vaultcrypt
upstream...

If one injects uuid onto a drive, it might not generate any kernel udev
events for udevd to react to and create/update symlinks.

It would be nice to have an interleaved log of udev events from udevadm
monitor, to see if there are any events emitted after "format" action is
done. If there are none, then vaultlocker needs to be fixed to trigger
things.

This UUID is visible in blkid output

  /dev/sdc: UUID="" TYPE="crypto_LUKS"

and a udev rule exists to create a /dev/disk/by-uuid/ symlink (which is normally used for filesystem -> block device
  resolution)

https://git.launchpad.net/~usd-import-team/ubuntu/+source/lvm2/tree/udev/13-dm-disk.rules.in#n25
  ENV{ID_FS_USAGE}=="filesystem|other|crypto", ENV{ID_FS_UUID_ENC}=="?*",
SYMLINK+="disk/by-uuid/$env{ID_FS_UUID_ENC}"

Where vaultlocker fails is in luks_open command (right after luks_format)

   # cryptsetup --batch-mode --key-file - open UUID=
  crypt- --type luks

because it tries to access /dev/disk/by-uuid/ which
  does not exist.

This happens since udev rules are not re-triggered to create this
symlink after a LUKS device is created.

Solution: call the command below after luks_format before luks_open

  udevadm settle --exit-if-exists=/dev/disk/by-uuid/

read-only mount of block device on mount point '$ROOTMNT'
(ROOTMNT=/root). In order to set up the overlayroot, it does the
  following:

   mkdir /media/root-ro /media/root-rw # in the initramfs
   mount -t tmpfs tmpfs-root /media/root-rw
   mkdir /media/root-rw/overlay-workdir/_
   mount --move $ROOTMNT /media/root-ro

   mount --move /media/root-ro "${ROOTMNT}/media/root-ro"
   mount --move /media/root-rw "${ROOTMNT}/media/root-rw"

   # then, if 'ro' on the command line, it mounts /root read-only.
   mount -o remount,ro $ROOTMNT

The script then exits, as ROOTMNT is now set up with a read-only mount

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1764779] Re: Nautilus crashed open Windows-partition [assertion failed: (location != NULL)]

2018-09-13 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Lukas, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nautilus into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/1:3.26.4-0~ubuntu18.04.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1788188] Re: transient systemd ordering cycle in boot with overlayroot

2018-09-13 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Note to self.

   umount.target
A special target unit that unmounts all mount and automount points
on system shutdown.

Mounts that shall be unmounted on system shutdown shall add
Conflicts dependencies to this unit for their mount unit, which is implicitly
done
when DefaultDependencies=yes is set (the default).

Given that /media/root-ro is a pre-requisite for /, imho it should be
declared with DefaultDependencies=no.

Broken since security update on Thu, 05 May 2016
Fixed in Debian in openssh/1:6.7p1-5+deb8u7
Per the Debian bug they were affected as well re-using our CVE fixes in Debian.

I think we can use the changes taken for openssh/1:6.7p1-5+deb8u7 when they are
visible.
Right now I don't see more yet, so it waits to be released there.

The fix looks rather trivial (thanks for linking) and we should take a
look at this soon.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Systems relying on renaming network interfaces at boot and when 'netplan
apply' is run.

  [Test case]
  - Write a new netplan YAML (adjusting for current system as necessary):
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: myif0

  - Run 'netplan apply'
  - Verify that the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.
  - Reboot.
  - Make sure the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.

  [Regression potential]
Changes in rename logic to add udev rules may otherwise impact applying
different settings to the network interfaces. Changes in settings on network
interfaces, missing parameters (especially on bonds, bridges) should be
investigated as potential regressions. Other failures to apply network settings
might also happen if there's a race between applying renames via the udev
rules, and using the new names to apply configuration changes to the interfaces.

  === systemd issue ===

Renaming devices doesn't seem to work.

If I disable all other network configuration and create
  /etc/systemd/network/10-network.link with:

  [Match]
  MACAddress=52:54:00:c1:c9:bb

  [Link]
  Name=myiface3

I expect this to cause the device with that MAC address to be renamed
to myiface3. However, when I reboot, I instead see:

  $ ip l
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:c1:c9:bb brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

  The device is not renamed.

This link file is pretty much identical to Example 2 in
  https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.link.html.

The renaming does work if I boot with net.ifnames=0, and oddly, it
also works if I unbind the device and rebind it as netplan apply does.
No setting of NamePolicy seems to help.

  === Original Bug ==

'set-name:' doesn't change the name of a network interface on boot, it
only works when you do netplan apply.

Say I take this 50-cloud-init.yaml file:

  # This file is generated from information provided by
  # the datasource. Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
  # To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
  # /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
  # network: {config: disabled}
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: ens3

Say I change set-name to 'myiface3' and reboot. I expect that the
device will be called myiface3 and brought up fine with dhcp. However,
  instead I see:

  $ ip a
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 ::1/128 scope host
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN group default
qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:de:bd:f6 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

The name has not been changed, and the device has not been brought up.

If I run netplan apply however, I see the following:

1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 ::1/128 scope host
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  3: myiface3: mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state
UP group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:de:bd:f6 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 192.168.122.151/24 brd 192.168.122.255 scope global dynamic myiface3
     valid_lft 3575sec preferred_lft 3575sec
  inet6 fe80::5054:ff:fede:bdf6/64 scope link
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

So names are successfully changed with netplan apply.

This seems to be some udev-related timing or priority issue that I'm
  still trying to hunt down.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1771749] Re: Ethernet connection lost after few minutes since starting

2018-09-13 Thread Kent Lion
XUbuntu 18.04 has been doing this since I upgraded a few days ago. No
error messages or any other sign that the Ethernet network connection
has been dropped. I first notice it when I try to do something on the
network and it times out. I haven't changed any network settings for
over a year, but this never happened with Xenial LTS, and I haven't
noticed any pattern to the occurrence vs what I happen to be doing at
the time, so I can't reproduce it at will.

Title:
Ethernet connection lost after few minutes since starting

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

This is the same bug I notified at Bug #1770848 but with a more precise
selection of (what I think it is) the package affected and a better description.

I made a few days ago a fresh install of the Kubuntu 18.04 LTS and it
is most everything Ok, but -I think that- the network-manager has a
  problem.

In the last LTS version, Kubuntu 16.04, nor in any Linux version if I
remember well, I never lost connection through Ethernet (the only
Internet connection with our desktop PC), but the Bionic Beaver loses
the connection every now and then, perhaps within few minutes or
hours, but several times per day.

When the connection is lost, I note that it disappears any info even
mention to any network into the network window and the network manager
  icon becomes red color.

Not matter if I unplug and then plug the ethernet cable again, the
ethernet connection is not longer detected and only restarting the PC
makes the connection to work again.

Incidentally, I also have noticed with this version of Kubuntu 18.04
that in my laptop there is also now a similar problem with the
scanner: If I plug it in some USB port of the laptop once Kubuntu
18.04 is already running, it's not detected by Xsane. I have to plug
it in before than pressing the power button or at the time of starting
the OS, for the scanner to be detected by the scanning program (and
then only works with Xsane, not if I use Simple Scan or Skanlite, even
when it works under Xsane), as I said in the Bug #1771525 and, evenly,
if I unplug the scanner cable from the USB port it is not detected
anymore when plugging it again, and only restarting the laptop makes
  it to be detected.

Also, http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/m/mir/ lists

Any chance you have a mirror or proxy that does something weird?

  * Standards compliance

the package is using standard packaging (dh10), the standards-version

sudo ip link add type veth peer enp1s0 name testveth0

  Will return:
Error: either "dev" is duplicate, or "enp1s0" is a garbage.

However, this command works fine since Xenial (iproute2 4.3.0)

As we will need this for kenrel SRU testing, it will be great to have

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1770082] Re: systemd-networkd not renaming devices on boot

2018-09-13 Thread Nicorac
Just tried with a fresh installed Ubuntu SERVER 18.04.1.
The interface now got renamed but IP address is not applied, both static and
DHCP.

If I run "netplan apply" just after reboot+login, network interface is
configured correctly (again, both with static/DHCP address).

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Systems relying on renaming network interfaces at boot and when 'netplan
apply' is run.

  [Test case]
  - Write a new netplan YAML (adjusting for current system as necessary):
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: myif0

  - Run 'netplan apply'
  - Verify that the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.
  - Reboot.
  - Make sure the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.

  [Regression potential]
Changes in rename logic to add udev rules may otherwise impact applying
different settings to the network interfaces. Changes in settings on network
interfaces, missing parameters (especially on bonds, bridges) should be
investigated as potential regressions. Other failures to apply network settings
might also happen if there's a race between applying renames via the udev
rules, and using the new names to apply configuration changes to the interfaces.

  === systemd issue ===

Renaming devices doesn't seem to work.

If I disable all other network configuration and create
  /etc/systemd/network/10-network.link with:

  [Match]
  MACAddress=52:54:00:c1:c9:bb

  [Link]
  Name=myiface3

I expect this to cause the device with that MAC address to be renamed
to myiface3. However, when I reboot, I instead see:

  $ ip l
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:c1:c9:bb brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

  The device is not renamed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1792326] Re: Pulse audio problems

2018-09-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The command 'pulseaudio -v' is not something you should be running. That
command attempts to start a new copy of pulseaudio (verbosely), which
will fail because you already have one running. So the 'pulseaudio -v'
command failing is not an error. Just don't run it.

What is wrong the machine that motivated you to run that command?
Also, what do you see in Settings (under Sound)?

Title:
  Display size detected incorrectly

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in qtbase-opensource-src package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Since Ubuntu switched to Gnome, display scaling does not work
correctly. This is because my external monitor is detected as 7"
although it is 32". All applications which use Qt auto scaling have
  huge controls!

It seems like many users have the same problem
  (https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2390362) and thus disable
Qt auto scaling. I think the solution should be to fix the size
  detection instead.

Further, it seems not related to graphics driver, since I personally
use the open source driver with my internal Intel card, whereas
someone else uses a proprietary Nvidia driver
  (https://askubuntu.com/q/1066879/206608).

If it is in the wrong category, please move it / add the corresponding
  packages.

If you need any further information to tackle the problem, just tell me!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1792167] Re: Display size detected incorrectly

2018-09-13 Thread Dark Dragon
1. xrandr

I generated the output and attached the section for the external
display. I guess the first line already shows the problem:

HDMI-1 connected 1920x1080+1366+0 (0x8b) normal (normal left
inverted right x axis y axis) 160mm x 90mm

It includes "160mm x 90mm" which probably translates to 7".

2. apport

I generated the requested log. I installed Ubuntu 17.04, upgraded to
17.10 and now upgraded to 18.04. I use the latest kernel from
kernel.ubuntu.com.

   * The login screen is blur, with Huawei's Hi1710 chipset. And below
  is the hardware information.

05:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Huawei Technologies Co.,
Ltd. Hi1710 [iBMC Intelligent Management system chip w/VGA support]
  [19e5:1711] (rev 01)

   * It's really big effect for our customer when they use the arm
server. It's an hardware specific issue, and I've debugged with the
mutter for a while upstream's help, but no luck. And the workaround
patches was accepted by upstream and now in 18.10.

  [Test Case]

   * It's an hardware specific issue, installed the 18.04 on Huawei's
Hi1710 arm server. After boot up, you will found the login screen is
  distorted.

  [Regression Potential]

   * It's just a kind of workaround, we add one the udev rule to skip
Huawei's chipset, which won't affects other platform.

@vanvugt,

Now the workaround patches were merged into 18.10, I thought we could
start the SRU process for 18.04. Could you help it? Thanks!

Disable wayland for Huawei Hi1710 chipsets.

The login screen is skewed/distorted on arm server, and I couldn't
find root cause, and no other developer ever has access to the hardware.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.

2018-09-13 Thread Kilian Felder
After the update to the latest available version of the package ..

initramfs-tools/bionic-updates,bionic-updates,now 0.130ubuntu3.3 all
[installed]

the problem still exists!

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic

Title:
Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to
  device scanning.

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in initramfs-tools source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [SRU Justification]
A regression in initramfs-tools causes it to autogenerate config in the
initramfs saying to resume from any available swap devices, but references the
swap device by UUID, which is not a canonical form for referring to LVM volumes
(because of snapshotting, they are not unique). Ubiquity also generates a file
in /etc at install time which references the swap partition in the same way.
Since the lvm2 initramfs hooks also only activate precisely those LVs that are
detected as needed at boot, this adds an inappropriate 30-second boot delay to
any system with swap on LVM, which includes any desktop system that was
configured with LVM (but not full-disk encryption) at install time.

  [Test case]
  1. Install using the "Use LVM" option in the desktop installer.
  4. Reboot.
  5. Verify that dmesg shows a 30-second delay before mounting the root
filesystem.
  6. Install initramfs-tools from bionic-proposed.
  7. Reboot.
  8. Verify that dmesg no longer shows a 30-second delay before mounting the
root filesystem.
  9. Install using the bionic daily image that contains the ubiquity from
bionic-proposed.
  10. Reboot.
  11. Verify that /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume is not present and that
there is no delay before mounting the root filesystem.

  [Regression potential]
This makes changes to shell scripts, and shell is a perilous language. An
unnoticed bug could cause all initramfs generation, and thus all kernel
installation, to fail for some users. A regression could also cause a user to
lose hiberation support that they currently have.

  [Original description]
After choosing "Erase disk and install ubuntu" + "Use LVM with the new Ubuntu
installation", the
system is very slow to reboot.

It shows the message : "WARNING:Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to
device scanning.",
then waits 32 seconds, then continues as it should.

I think this is a ubiquity bug, since the d-i based installer is not affected.
