Title:
/var/log/journal consumed all available disk space

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Running 18.04, systemd 237-3ubuntu10, and all of my available disk
space on /var (4.3G) just got eaten up by systemd-journald.
/etc/systemd/journald.conf has all the default values (everything
commented out). Processes were starting to crash, and I only
recovered by running "sudo journalctl --vacuum-files=1" which brought
  it back down to 25M.

My understanding is that the defaults are supposed to prevent this
from happening. I'm not familiar enough with systemd to further debug
  why this might have happened.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1439771] Re: wpa_supplicant[874]: dbus: Failed to construct signal after 'suspend'

2018-10-27 Thread NJ
Actually (cf. my comment above) the Manager does reconnect after sleep.
However: a script of my disconnects weak networks, the idea being to
allow connection to a stronger network. Yet, after the weak network is
disconnected, there is no automatic connection to my stronger network
(even though that network is known to the system and set to connect
automatically).

I know it's bad form to ask this, but one does wonder: is any attention
being paid to bugs in this area, save by those who suffer from them?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1800292] Re: Mouse click every 1-2 minutes

2018-10-27 Thread Rodrigo Melotto

After turn on my computer and my Ubuntu install updates today (Oct 27), I
restarted to apply the updates and my mouse started do auto click 2-3 times in

Its infuriating, because im watching youtube fullscreen and every 1-2 minutes
it clicks and stop the video and go out full screen, so I need to play again
and go to fullscreen again, just to 1-2 minutes later repeat all over again.

Title:
Ubuntu 18.10 does not suspend on lid close

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After an upgrade to Ubuntu 18.10 suspend to RAM due to closing the lid
on notebooks does not work any more.

The machine goes to suspend mode but wakes up immediately due to some
events (can be network, or others).

In 18.04 this issue was fixed (we had the same situation with any
  version since 14.04).

  Seems a regression.

Mitigation reports suggesting to change /etc/systemd/logind.conf are WRONG.
The changes do NOTHING.
One might spare the time to experiment.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1800292] [NEW] Mouse click every 1-2 minutes

2018-10-27 Thread Rodrigo Melotto
Public bug reported:

After turn on my computer and my Ubuntu install updates today (Oct 27), I
restarted to apply the updates and my mouse started do auto click 2-3 times in
sequence every 1-2 minutes.
I tried to restart, tried to unplug my mouse but it keep happening.
Its infuriating, because im watching youtube fullscreen and every 1-2 minutes
it clicks and stop the video and go out full screen, so I need to play again
and go to fullscreen again, just to 1-2 minutes later repeat all over again.

Working printer stops after upgrade to 18.04

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
After an upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 my printer stopped working. The
printer is an Epson E360-dn. After printing a test page the I get the
message Printing followed by Printing Stopped with the Printer's state
message saying "Filter Failed". The printer is network attached.

This printer works fine from a Windows PC on the network and also
works if I boot from an 18.04 live usb. It seems something broke or
was carried forward in the upgrade process.

DYMO LabelWriter 450 can't find printer driver

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Just connecting the printer through USB, Ubuntu tries to find a driver for
the printer but fails.
It starts the "Ubuntu software" GUI app but with the message "Unfortunately,
the DYMO LabelWriter 450 you were searching for could not be found. Please see
this website for more information."

The link for "this website" points to
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/

However, removing the printer, installing the "printer-driver-dymo" package,
and re-adding the printer makes it properly find and install the printer
perfectly.

Anyway Ubuntu could recognize that this package is the one needed for
  the printer?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1759836] Re: systemd-udevd consumes 100% of CPU

2018-10-27 Thread Richie Ward
sudo systemctl stop systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket systemd-
udevd-control.socket

sudo systemctl start systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket systemd-
udevd-control.socket

Running this on startup seems to fix it.

Status in sudo package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
I have small script that invokes another shell script as root thus:

  #!/bin/bash
  echo "mypass" | sudo -p '' -S /usr/StorMan/StorMan.sh

when running in 16.04 LTS this didn't display a password prompt which
I understand to be correct behaviour. Since upgrading to 18.04.1 LTS
  the output looks like:

  amonra@Charon:~$ ./storman
  [sudo] password for amonra:

which as far as I can determine is not correct.

I: Set the RESUME variable to override
this.###.]

So the local-premount script in initramfs was waiting for a swap
device that was not available, until it timed out. The relevant
message was gave up waiting for suspend/resume device.

To disable this (as resuming from swap is not possible with an
encrypted swap, and I don't use hibernation anyway), I modified this
file: /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume. In this file, a line with
RESUME=none (instead of the UUID that was here) will disable waiting
  for a resume device.

Run sudo update-initramfs -u to apply the changes.

Please, fix it already. Duplicate of Bug #1768230 on Ubuntu 18.10

I've opened another issue regarding this notebook. It's about
overheating. Would be very helpful, if you could share your experience
here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1087672/unusually-hot-asus-ux391ua

2018-10-27 Thread Matt
Ok, the issue seems gone! I cannot recreate it, and I'm not sure why.

First, thank you for the quick reply. When I first read your response, I
ran the

`echo "deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com $(lsb_release -cs) main restricted
universe multiverse" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ddebs.list`

command, and then realized the CPU wasn't being maximally taxed so I
didn't continue and decided to try again later. I then ran the disable
and stop commands to get rid of the issue temporarily.

I later decided to try to recreate the issue, so I ran the corresponding
enable and start commands, and the CPU didn't increase. I then restarted
my system a couple times, but have yet to see the high CPU and bad
networking issues. I can confirm that the avahi-daemon is indeed
running. Running `ps aux | grep avahi` yields,

avahi 915 0.0 0.0 18920 3868 ?Ss 23:46 0:00 avahi-daemon:
running [tomboy.local]
avahi 1035 0.0 0.0 18716 348 ?S23:46 0:00 avahi-daemon:
chroot helper

Since my initial post I have performed a couple normal package updates,
so perhaps one of them solved the issue? The Kubuntu 18.10 I am on is a
new release, so perhaps something was discovered and fixed.

Title:
  avahi-daemon high cpu, unusable networking

Status in avahi package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Currently running Kubuntu 18.10, Dell XPS 13 9350

Since updating from Kubuntu 18.04 to 18.10, the avahi-daemon has been
consistently hampering network performance and using CPU for long
  periods of time.

When booting machine from off state, avahi-daemon uses an entire CPU
at max load for approx 10 minutes. During this time, internet
connectivity via wifi is essentially unusable. The wifi connection is
good, but it seems that http transactions are cutoff mid-way so no
  webpage is able to load.

When waking from sleep, the avahi-daemon causes similar symptoms, but
with less than 1 full cpu usage, and with somewhat less degraded
network performance, but still quite unusable.

I have never had issues with avahi prior to the 18.10 upgrade, so I am
fairly confident the issue is rooted in that change.

2018-10-27 Thread taeler

the login screen if i don't log in with in about 10 seconds my screen
goes black and i can not get it to come back and i need to do a hard
reboot. also sometimes the issue happens during boot up the screen goes
purple for a few seconds then black and stay's like that and the can't
get it to comes back and have to do a hard reboot, but this happens
about 1 or 2 times out of ten boots i would say. so i'm hoping that this

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1800262] [NEW] screen rotates randonly

2018-10-27 Thread taeler
Public bug reported:

i've had this issue several times and twice during a new installation.
it will happen randomly but mostly a few mins in to a boot up after
being logged in, the screen will turn black for a moment and when it
comes back the screen that is being displayed will be displaying 90
degrees rotated counterclockwise. the only way i can get it to go back
is to restart the system, and after several times i found a auto rotate
lock option but i don't know why my laptop would be thinking it's being
rotated while sitting level on a table?
