[Touch-packages] [Bug 1884249] Re: external USB mouse not working

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Lsusb-t.txt seems to show no mouse is connected. So that's either a
hardware problem or a kernel problem.

Please try unplugging and replugging the mouse. Please also try a
different mouse.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1884393] Re: With Auto-hide dock enabled, icons get hidden behind dock & dock does not hide untill there's an app near it

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This is the intended behaviour and won't be fixed. The desktop icons are
designed to occupy the maximum space that is usually available.

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons
(Ubuntu)

** Changed in: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Won't Fix

** Package changed: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons (Ubuntu) =>

Title:
With Auto-hide dock enabled, icons get hidden behind dock & dock does
not hide untill there's an app near it

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
Gnome Settings>Appearance> auto hide dock //enable it

automatically you might see icons getting hidden behind dock (keep
  windows away from dock).

Not only desktop getting hidden under dock looks unaesthetic,
But don't you think dock should remain hidden till the user points mouse at
it?

Other wise we won't be able to use left side of the desktop to keep
  icons.

Dock never hides till an app is near it, so desktop icons may get
  under it.

So that we can use the entire left side of desktop to keep icons, with
the auto hide dock option enabled, don't you think dock should remain
hidden until user points mouse near it?

  //probably a logical error

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1884367] Re: The display is flickering

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Can you please attach a video of the flickering problem? I can't see any
reason for it in the attached logs.

Also please don't try upgrading any intel drivers. You can't do that and
still get support from Ubuntu.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1884392] Re: Clock does not remain in center when auto-hide the dock setting is disabled from gnome settings

2020-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's an Ubuntu feature designed to match the position of text in the
titlebar of maximized windows. It's not a bug but I understand some
people don't like it (occasionally including me). It doesn't happen if
you use the GNOME dock instead (if you disable Ubuntu Dock in the
Extensions app).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1881659] Re: Dell Inspirion 5391: headphones work only if I manually switch source port every time and no different volume levels for speaker and headphones

2020-06-21 Thread Hui Wang
@tim474,

When it doesn't work, please run amixer contents to check Input
Source/Capture Source value, if its value is "Headset Mic"? If it is, it
means the pulseaudio's behaviour is correct, maybe the kernel driver has
some problem on your machine.

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have a laptop Dell Inspirion 5391 that was shipped with Ubuntu
18.04, and it doesn't have such problems. But I have manually
installed Xubuntu 20.04 LTS (firstly because I need full disk
encryption with LUKS). And I have two problems the with sound system:

  1) If I plug headphones, there is no sound. Sound becomes only if I
manually switch source port to "Headset Mono microphone" from
"Headphones stereo microphone" in pavucontrol or with the command:

  pacmd set-source-port 4 "[In] Headset"

  or with ALSA:

amixer set 'Input Source' 'Headset Mic'

I have a workaround with /etc/acpi/events, but it is not seamless (I
have an one second delay when I plug the headphones).

  2) There is no separate volume levels for speaker and headphone in
  pulseaudio.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1884101] Re: jackdbus produces high cpu load

2020-06-21 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
** Changed in: jackd2 (Ubuntu Focal)

Title:
[SRU] jackdbus produces high cpu load

Status in jackd2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in jackd2 source package in Focal:
  In Progress
Status in jackd2 source package in Groovy:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Users have reported issues with high CPU load when running jackd and
 jackdbus, causing system slowdowns

   * This newer version was backported into the Ubuntu Studio Backports PPA
and has shown to have success in fixing this issue.

  [Test Case]

   * Attempt to run jackd and jackdbus, jackd tends to take 100% per CPU

   * Killing jackd and jackdbus reduces CPU down to nominal levels

   * Version in Ubuntu Studio Backports PPA does not have this issue,
same version exists in Ubuntu Groovy Gorilla.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Since jackd is used by multiple professional audio applications and
therefore there could be potential negative impact on those
  applicaitons.

   * Although that regression potential exists, multiple users have
reported great success when using the newer version.

  [Other Info]

   * Although not a "bug" per se, upstream developer lamented the fact that the
version in 20.04 is so far behind.

   * Most audio applications and plugins in Ubuntu 20.04 have been
developed with this version of Jackd in mind.

  Original bug report:

if jackd and jackdbus run, jackd and/or jackdbus produce high cpu load. jackd
tends to take all availabl CPU power bringing the system to slow down
remarkably. Killing jackd and jackdbus frees cpu and system load drops from
100%/per CPU down to ~4% overall.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1884101] Re: jackdbus produces high cpu load

2020-06-21 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
** Description changed:

- if jackd and jackdbus run, jackd and/or jackdbus produce high cpu load.
- jackd tends to take all availabl CPU power bringing the system to slow
- down remarkably. Killing jackd and jackdbus frees cpu and system load
- drops from 100%/per CPU down to ~4% overall.
+ [Impact]
+
+ * Users have reported issues with high CPU load when running jackd and
+jackdbus, causing system slowdowns
+
+ * This newer version was backported into the Ubuntu Studio Backports PPA
+and has shown to have success in fixing this issue.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Attempt to run jackd and jackdbus, jackd tends to take 100% per CPU
+
+ * Killing jackd and jackdbus reduces CPU down to nominal levels
+
+ * Version in Ubuntu Studio Backports PPA does not have this issue, same
+ version exists in Ubuntu Groovy Gorilla.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Since jackd is used by multiple professional audio applications and
+ therefore there could be potential negative impact on those
+ applicaitons.
+
+ * Although that regression potential exists, multiple users have
+ reported great success when using the newer version.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * Although not a "bug" per se, upstream developer lamented the fact that the
version in 20.04 is so far behind.
+
+ * Most audio applications and plugins in Ubuntu 20.04 have been
+ developed with this version of Jackd in mind.
+
+
+ Original bug report:
+
+
+ if jackd and jackdbus run, jackd and/or jackdbus produce high cpu load. jackd
tends to take all availabl CPU power bringing the system to slow down
remarkably. Killing jackd and jackdbus frees cpu and system load drops from
100%/per CPU down to ~4% overall.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1764044] Re: ssh-add asks about passphrases for keys already unlocked in the keychain

2020-06-21 Thread Rolf Leggewie
while you can certainly argue that the obsolete key was a configuration
issue, I'd find it surprising to see the missing warning about this
while silently pretending to be working just fine not to be considered a
bug.

Why are the only 2 selectable cities from GMT-5 (Eastern) are: Toronto
and NYC? There's also this other city called Montréal who hosts a
whole bunch of different of people in between the two.

Oh, and did you know that there was also a province and infrastructure
surrounding this whole city? We better be start using it in 2020!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1881659] Re: Dell Inspirion 5391: headphones work only if I manually switch source port every time and no different volume levels for speaker and headphones

2020-06-21 Thread tim474
Hui Wang, sorry, your fix works not every time. Sometimes switches
correctly, sometimes not (but there is "Headset Mono microphone" as
input port). I should or unplug and plug headphones several times, or
manually switch port to stereo microphone and back.

Dell Inspirion 5391: headphones work only if I manually switch source
port every time and no different volume levels for speaker and
  headphones

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

  2) There is no separate volume levels for speaker and headphone in
  pulseaudio.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1884455] [NEW] pulseaudio creates /root/.config/pulse/ before zfs-mount.service can mount the /root dataset

2020-06-21 Thread Dumitru Sipos
Public bug reported:

I use 'zfs' and have /root as its own dataset which is mounted during
startup by 'zfs-mount.service'.

At one of the latest upgrades, the 'zfsutils-linux' package failed to
update because the service 'zfs-mount' service had an issue and could
not mount the '/root' dataset because the '/root' directory was not
empty (temporary solution was to rename /root and call 'zfs mount'
again).

Further investigation shows that everytime at startup, the /root
directory is created before the 'zfs-mount.service' has a chance to
mount the 'root' dataset.

The culprit seems to be something pulseaudio related: the content of /root
folder after startup is as follows:
-
root@minighost:~# tree -a /root
.
├── .cache
└── .config
└── pulse
└── fe1417537ae0451abdb60c5df28fe825-runtime -> /tmp/pulse-PKdhtXMmr18n

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1882034] Re: cannot start X session with NIS account

2020-06-21 Thread Fabien
> Do you seem to observe https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2941
?

The message is the same, but I cannot see a "hidepid" mount option
anywhere.

As a standard user I can see all /proc/ directories, and read
the /proc//cgroup file of other users, including root.

So I'd say that it is not exactly the same issue.

  Only errors in logs is:

known session

X11/gdm login works fine with local accounts.

SSH/terminal console login with NIS accounts works fine.

  /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config:
allowed_users=anybody

I've seen several reports of such problems under other versions (eg
19.10), but no working solutions was found. It seems that the problem
  is the same with lightdm.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1876219] Re: iris driver for old cpu

2020-06-21 Thread Lahfa Samy
I have an Intel I7-5600U on PopOS 20.04 (note this distribution that is based
on Ubuntu 20.04 is not listed in the `also affects distribution/package` and
I'm currently affected by this bug as well.
Same here, I'm curious to what change has caused this bug.

Title:
  iris driver for old cpu

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am not completely sure where I should file the bug. I am using
Lubuntu 20.04 with lxqt, and since the upgrade to 20.04 iris is the
default graphics driver, which results in crashes in multiple apps
  including guvcview and calibre. Setting
MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965 fixed the problem. I am not sure but
is it true that iris does not support older generations of Intel CPUs?
If it is the case would it be possible to revert to i965 in those
  circumstances? Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1878194] Re: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

2020-06-21 Thread Hui Wang
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794

And I just did a test on that Lenovo laptop. Disable the on-board
bluetooth host controller via BIOS, and plug in a usb bluetooth dongle
(CSR8510 A10 0a12:0001), now the hci0 is the external usb bt dongle. And
all 4 headsets could work well in hsp/hfp mode now, both playback and
recording work well. And through hciconfig, I could see the sco packets
number is not zero anymore.

So for my case, it is kernel driver or firmware issue instead of
pulseaudio issue.

Title:
[Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting
HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After updating the release from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04, the bluetooth
headset doesn't work anymore when HSP/HFP profile is selected.

With Ubuntu 19.10 the headset was working, there was audio and the mic
  was perfect for video conferencing.

  [Steps to reproduce]
  1. Connect headset (used blueman to setup and connect)
1.1. When connected the system automatically selects A2DP profile
  2. Start playing audio (browser or other)
  3. Change profile to HSP/HFP with pavucontrol (or blueman)
  4. The audio disappears and microphone is not working (no input)
  5. Optionally switch back to A2DP and the audio comes back

  [Expected]
When switching to HSP/HFP the audio should keep playing and the microphone
should start working

  [Notes]
I tried with pavucontrol to switch between profiles while playing audio from
a browser.
As side note there's a led in the headset that still blinks when switching
profile.

I tried deleting the pulse folder under user's profile .config without
success, also reinstalled packages and did a `sudo alsa force-reload`
  and rebooting several times.

Note: not sure this is a duplicate of [Bug #1576559], it looks quite
different since the profile changes but the headset stops working.

  [System info]
  Ubuntu: 20.04 - Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64
  pulseaudio: 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3
  bluez: 5.53-0ubuntu3

  Headset: Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC
