emergency shell ignores all keyboard input

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
An SSD that held my /boot/efi partition failed, took down local-fs.target,
which brought up emergency.target. I ended up with no ssh access, and a
message on the local console telling me
to press Enter to get a root shell, or press Ctrl-D to continue booting
normally. The system did not react to either Enter or Ctrl-D. I could switch
between virtual consoles (but nothing was running on them, e.g. no getty),
toggle Caps Lock, or reboot with Ctrl+Alt+Del.

An emergency console that doesn't accept keyboard input is not a
  useful emergency console.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1939173] Re: Screen flickering white vertical lines

2021-08-06 Thread Juuso Korhonen
** Description changed:

The screen on my HP AIO computer flickers. I'm able to browse the
computer, but it's giving me headache.

Flickering consists pattern of 2cm height white vertical pixel lines
(1*Wpx white and 1*Wpx transparent lines) and 2cm transparent section.

Flicker also has 1px lines with dashes ending them about 10cm from left
of the screen and 2cm from right of the screen.

Mathematically letter W being 100% of screen width in above description.

+ Flickering seems to be consistent to screen refresh state (~60Hz).
+ Changing refresh rate does not affect in to amount of flickering.

+ Same thing not happening in Windows nor BIOS. Even though this looks a

Status in systemd source package in Focal:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [impact]

  - ALL related HA software has a small problem if interfaces are being
managed by systemd-networkd: nic restarts/reconfigs are always going
to wipe all interfaces aliases when HA software is not expecting it to
  (no coordination between them.

  - keepalived, smb ctdb, pacemaker, all suffer from this. Pacemaker is
smarter in this case because it has a service monitor that will
restart the virtual IP resource, in affected node & nic, before
considering a real failure, but other HA service might consider a real
  failure when it is not.

  [test case]

  - comment #14 is a full test case: to have 3 node pacemaker, in that
example, and cause a networkd service restart: it will trigger a
failure for the virtual IP resource monitor.

  - other example is given in the original description for keepalived.
both suffer from the same issue (and other HA softwares as well).

  [regression potential]

  - this backports KeepConfiguration parameter, which adds some
significant complexity to networkd's configuration and behavior, which
could lead to regressions in correctly configuring the network at
networkd start, or incorrectly maintaining configuration at networkd
restart, or losing network state at networkd stop.

  - Any regressions are most likely to occur during networkd start,
restart, or stop, and most likely to involve missing or incorrect ip
  address(es).

  - the change is based in upstream patches adding the exact feature we
needed to fix this issue & it will be integrated with a netplan change
to add the needed stanza to systemd nic configuration file
  (KeepConfiguration=)

Update crontab(5) manpage to match new behaviour

Status in cron package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  From LP: #1779767 comment 13:

In crontab(5) in cron 3.0pl1-136ubuntu2 the manpage is now wrong. It
  says:

  > Several environment variables are set up automatically by the cron(8)
daemon.
  > […] PATH is set to "/usr/bin:/bin". HOME, SHELL, and PATH may be overridden
  > by settings in the crontab […]

  and also

  > On the Debian GNU/Linux system, cron supports the pam_env module, and loads
  > the environment specified by /etc/environment and
/etc/security/pam_env.conf.
  > It also reads locale information from /etc/default/locale. However, the PAM
  > settings do NOT override the settings described above nor any settings in
the
  > crontab file itself. Note in particular that if you want a PATH other than
  > "/usr/bin:/bin", you will need to set it in the crontab file.

These should be fixed I think. There might be other spots that I didn't notice
  yet too.

Bug description:
When logging out (or shuting down), after confirming to log out (shut
down), the system goes into text mode for a while (0.5-3/4 seconds)
before showing LDM or splash screen. In the text mode there is a black
screen with a few system messages. How long does this situation last
varies a lot. Sometimes it is just approximately 0.5 second and only
2-3 lines of system messages (the last one is then usually '* Checking
out battery state') but sometimes it takes 3-4 seconds befor actual
LightDM screen or splash appears and then there is a lot of system
messages on the black screen. Anyway, the situation happens every
sigle time I log out or shut , and it's been so at least since 11.10
  (the issue also present there).

I realise this is not really a bug, however I've decided to report
this since recently I've noticed two people new to Ubuntu, to whom I'd
recommended the system, going panic ('The system is broken!') when
they saw this black screen with system messages. This is a detail, but
the detail that - IMHO - should be improved.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1084643] Re: Colour casting on black text using the default renderer pdftops (workaround: use gs)

2021-08-06 Thread madbiologist
Official support for Ubuntu 12.04.5 ended on April 28, 2017. Official
support for Ubuntu 12.10 ended on May 16, 2014.

Does this problem still occur on Ubuntu 21.04?

Bug description:
For some time now (I think the bug is not specific to Ubuntu 12.10 but
also present in 12.04), I am having trouble when printing black text
with an HP Color LaserJet CP1515n, that worked fine on previous Ubuntu
releases and from other Operating Systems. The output is kind of ok,
but black text does has a slight red cast, making it look fuzzy. The
problem exists when printing from LibreOffice, Firefox and Evince.

Trying different settings and drivers to debug the problem, I came to
the conclusion that the problem is on the pdftops default renderer. On
LibreOffice, I went to File - Printer Settings - Properties - Device -
Printer Language Type and chose Postscript (Level from driver). For
Firefox and Evince I just used this command from the command line:

  $ lpadmin -p "HP-Color-LaserJet-cp1515n" -o pdftops-renderer-
  default=gs

(use "pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops" to restore the default)

Using this settings (gs), the printing results are fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1573015] Re: xenial cloudimage with missing hostname on hosts

2021-08-06 Thread Paul White
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-life on April 29, 2021.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported when
using a currently supported version of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you
do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days
time.

  Install Vagrant / Virtualbox

  On Terminal run:

  $> vagrant init

Edit the Vagrantfile to change the box name from "base" to
  "ubuntu/xenial64"

Then on the terminal again do:

  $> vagrant up

  After installing do:

  $> vagrant ssh

  $> sudo su

You will get a message stating: "sudo: unable to resolve host ubuntu-
  xenial"

The reason for this message is because the entry on /etc/hostname
  (which have "ubuntu-xenial") doesn't exist on /etc/hosts

  To Fix:

  Edit the /etc/hosts:

$> sudo vim /etc/hosts (for instance)

  And on the entry:

  127.0.0.1 localhost

  Change to:

  127.0.0.1 localhost ubuntu-xenial

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Since very long, we had a feature request in netplan to determine the
activation mode of a given network interface. We got requests to
enable marking some interfaces as 'manual', meaning that networkd (or
any other backend) would not control its state in any way, requiring
the administrator to bring the interface up or down manually. The
other request was to mark a interface as 'off', that is: forcing the
network interface to always be down until the configuration option
  isn't changed.

This was mainly requested for the networkd backend and requires the
new feature of specifying ActivationPolicy= for interfaces, alongside
  the required netplan changes.

This feature is present in systemd 248 - for netplan supported stable
series we have decided to cherry-pick and backport this feature on top
of current systemd. The networkd feature basically adds the following
5 ActivationPolicy modes: always-down, down, manual, up, always-up.
For netplan purposes we only use 'always-down' and 'manual'.

The netplan feature, hopefully landing as part of 0.103, is called
'activation-mode' and supports two values: 'manual' and 'off'.

  [Test Case]

  For the systemd part:

   * Bring up a VM test environment with either a dummy interface or an
interface that can be safely manipulated.
   * Upgrade systemd to the -proposed version
   * For the target interface, create/modify the networkd configuration to
include the ActivationPolicy= setting in [Link], for instance:

  [Match]
  Name=dummy0

  [Network]
  Address=192.168.10.30/24
  Gateway=192.168.10.1

  [Link]
  ActivationPolicy=manual

   * Try all 5 combinations of ActivationPolicy values: always-down,
down, manual, up, always-up - doing `sudo networkctl reload` everytime
and checking if the interface behaves as expected.

  [Where problems could occur]

The patchset modifies quite a lot of code in the networkd link
  handling code paths, so regressions

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1938144] Re: monitor_read: unpermitted request 48 on server while attempting GSSAPI key exchange

2021-08-06 Thread Athos Ribeiro
The issue is reproducible in the latest published versions of openssh
carrying the patches in https://github.com/openssh-gsskex/openssh-gsskex
for Ubuntu (impish), Debian (unstable), and Fedora (rawhide).

I filed a bug report in https://github.com/openssh-gsskex/openssh-
gsskex/issues/20 to make sure the gsskex patch upstream is aware of this
issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1815101] Re: [master] Restarting systemd-networkd breaks keepalived, heartbeat, corosync, pacemaker (interface aliases are restarted)

2021-08-06 Thread Dan Streetman
> The "default bionic install" uses only netplan yaml and
/etc/systemd/network/ is empty.

yes, but netplan creates .network config files named in a deterministic
way so you know what the name of the networkd file it creates will be. I
don't think netplan currently has a mechanism to include keep-
configuration options in the networkd config it creates.

> Using '/etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-ens160.network.d/override.conf'
with KeepConfiguration works perfectly the same.

exactly, which is why you should use the drop-in instead of manually
duplicating and editing the entire netplan-created .network config file, as you
complained about when you said:
> Now I need to have IP and gateway in two files
since, no, you don't.

Or, drop netplan and just directly configure systemd-networkd.

Thank you for the bug report. You mentioned that the problem happens
after running `iptables -F`. This command removes all the rules from the
firewall (see man iptables) so it would be expected that the firewall
would not work correctly after running this.

I'm going to mark this as Invalid, but if you have more information,
feel free to add it.

Hi Sergio,
Sorry I don't understand why the bug's importance has decreased to "medium".
Du to client side behavior, issue is totally unpredictable, and slapd no longer
respond to requests.
Morever, the hot fix is not suited for production machines, and can introduce
regression.
Thanks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1815101] Re: [master] Restarting systemd-networkd breaks keepalived, heartbeat, corosync, pacemaker (interface aliases are restarted)

2021-08-06 Thread Maanus Kask
The "default bionic install" uses only netplan yaml and
/etc/systemd/network/ is empty.

If I switch to systemd.network style, I have to create config files from
scratch anyway and then this KeepConfiguration helps. (Of course I do
not need to keep the netplan yaml after enabling systemd-networkd, my
remark for having the IP configuration in two files was wrong)

Using '/etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-ens160.network.d/override.conf'
with KeepConfiguration works perfectly the same.
