Title:
  systemd-repart not packaged

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in systemd package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  systemd-repart is not (as of 246.6-1ubuntu1) packaged in the
  Ubuntu/Debian packages of systemd - probably because it has an extra
  dependency?

  I'd like to use it in our new raspberry pi images where we don't have
  cloud-init installed. We're already using systemd-growfs, but we are
  missing the nice partition resizing part (so are using cloud-
  initramfs-growroot).

  Could you please consider enabling it? In another binary package - so
  it can have extra deps - would be just fine by me.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1957781] Re: when i upgrade my package ask me yes or no ?

2022-01-13 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

PPA only has debian/changelog changes. Could you please attach a new
debdiff to this bug report and subscribe the Ubuntu Sponsors team after
that is done? Thanks in advance.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1957199] Re: package python3 3.8.2-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed python3 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 4

2022-01-13 Thread Stefano Rivera
I'm afraid I can't walk you through resolving a broken upgrade in a bug
report, it's just not the best medium for the job. Nor can I see a
troubleshooting guide that I can recommend.

The process is that you need to complete the apt upgrade. Usually this
involves something like:

# dpkg --configure -a
# apt-get -f install
# apt-get upgrade
# apt-get dist-upgrade

And fix any issues a long the way, until you can get things to complete.
In the example above, removing or upgrading eric would probably allow
python 3.8 to configure.

If you're out of your depth, I'd recommend taking a backup and re-
installing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly (the notify-OSD bubble on top-right corner)

2022-01-13 Thread Rubén
This bug is still valid even in Ubuntu 20.10, but a little different.

In my case a popup appears randomly that says something like mic muted /
mic unmuted.

My solution on any distro starting from Ubuntu 20.04:

sudo sed -e '/f20/ s/^#*/#/' -i /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb

sudo systemd-hwdb update

In my case it happens in Ideapad 700 15-ISK

I have no idea how to report the bug as every time it happens I apply
that patch and that's it

If this is not the place for this message, please feel free to delete it
or ask me to delete it.

Title:
  Volume notification keeps popping up constantly (the notify-OSD bubble
  on top-right corner)

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 yesterday, I did a clean install while
  preserving the home directory which is mounted in a separate
  partition. Even during the installation I had constant volume
  notification bubble appearing on the top-right corner of my screen, it
  would come and go about twice every minute. I just thought it was due
  to installing hardware drivers or something but the problem persisted
  even when I booted into the freshly installed system. I did some
  searching and two users reported the exact problem. And one more
  suggested this happens because constant disconnect and reconnect of
  the sound card which makes sense as the sound settings flashes briefly
  during every popup. Someone on IRC suggested to kill pulseaudio and
  thus restart it, that does not fix the issue. I also tried the Live
  environment thinking it might be due to some old config files in home
  partition (which was preserved during upgrade), but this problem
  happens in the live environment as well, which makes sense because it
  was present during installation as well.

  2. run "sudo tasksel" and select "virtual machine host"

  3. run "sudo tasksel" and deselect "virtual machine host"

  4. watch how tasksel uninstalls your system

  OBSERVATIONS

  What seems to happen is that apt vengefully removes ALL of the items
  associated with one task, including several base dependencies of other
  tasks (e.g. ubuntu-desktop)

  One illustrative example is the openssh-server task:
  This one includes the packages openssh-server, tcpd and libwrap0.
  From a normal ubuntu-desktop (e.g. ~liveCD) both tcpd and libwrap0 are
already installed, and the task-install pulls in only openssh-server.
  However when the task is removed, all these three packages (openssh-server,
tcpd and libwrap0) are forcefully removed.
  Since libwrap0 is a core dependency of gnome, a large part of gnome will be
removed alongside the removal of the task.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1957199] Re: package python3 3.8.2-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed python3 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 4

2022-01-13 Thread S Harrington
Thank you for this information about Eric. Unfortunately that is not my
only problem. During the build I also got the message "nvidia-340
package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status
10" and notification that my system was unstable. The resulting system
was unable to display the background image and substituted pixel noise.
I next got a message that updates were available so I attempted to run
the software updates. This again appeared to fail for nvidia-340. I
next got a message that a restart was needed to complete the updates, so
I restarted the machine. But on trying to restart, after Ubuntu is
displayed, I get a stream of text followed by a blank screen. I am
completely out of my depth here. Can you advise me on how to report
this problem and hopefully how to restore my system?

Thanks
Steve Harrington

eric should have been upgraded before python3.8 configured

The old eric was not compatible with python3.8.

Either way, the failed byte-compilation of that file shouldn't have
crashed the postinst.

Title:
  Wayland dual monitor 60Hz: High pitch audio

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I have a desktop computer with a 60Hz 4K display connected through Display
Port. The display is a ThinkVision X1 with built in audio. With the Display
Port cable I am then able to output sound from the monitor and this works
without any issues.
  I have now added a 4K Samsung television through HDMI to the same GPU, which
also allows me to do 4K at 60Hz, albeit only with Wayland. In Xorg I can only
do 30Hz on the television while doing 60Hz on the ThinkVision X1. It is clear
however, that when it is set to 60Hz in Wayland, the animation on the
television is much more smooth.

  The problem is that whenever I set the television to 60Hz, the playback of
any sound is both high pitched and faster than normal. If I play a video in
YouTube, the video appears to playback about twice as fast as normal and and
very high pitched sound (everyone sounds like chipmunks). This is the case on
the entire system (also when playing the video or any other sounds on the X1
display at 60Hz). Only if I set the refresh rate, on the television, to 30Hz
again does everything play and sound normal again.
  It is only the playback of media that is doubled in speed. Everything else
(animations, mouse, etc.) is still behaving as normal.

  If I change audio output to the ThinkVision X1 (or something else) at
  60Hz while also being connected to the television at 60Hz, the audio
  stays high pitched and sped up.

  If I unplug the main display, ThinkVision X1, then the playback of
  media on the television becomes normal.

  I have tried with different +100 USD HDMI cables, that are all rated
  as HDMI 2.0 and the behavior stays the same.

  My system is Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. I tried in a LiveUSB 21.10, but the
  behavior was the same.

  I have an AMD Radeon VII GPU (Has 3x Display Port and 1x HDMI).

  As mentioned I cannot test it in Xorg, but that is only because it
  does not allow me to set the refresh rate to 60Hz.

  I am uncertain whether this is related to MESA, Pulseaudio or maybe
  Mutter/Wayland?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1957816] [NEW] Wayland dual monitor 60Hz: High pitch audio

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1955489] Re: Patch to polkit policy breaks automatic/unattended updates

2022-01-13 Thread Julian Andres Klode
This probably should be reassigned to the kde settings package. The way
we approach upgrades in *Ubuntu is that they are done online and
attended, except for security updates, which are installed automatically
by unattended-upgrades.

Title:
  Patch to polkit policy breaks automatic/unattended updates

Status in packagekit package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  In Kubuntu KDE system settings, there is an option to enable automatic
  updates. However I wondered why this never actually updated the
  system, despite that I had automatic updates enabled for some time.

  Turns out, KDE uses Discover to update the system unattended. And
  discover uses packagekit to trigger offline updates.

  Now here is the problem: Usually this would work. It does on other
  distros which don't patch the polkit policy. But not on (K)ubuntu.

  In the package sources there is a patch for the debian/ubuntu package:
  /debian/patches/policy.diff

  This patch does change the permission to do offline updates from all
  active users to only admins.

  Here:

  ```
  @@ -273,7 +271,7 @@
   Trigger offline updates
  @@ -282,7 +280,7 @@
     auth_admin
     auth_admin
  -  yes
  +  auth_admin_keep
  ```

  With this patch, it prompts the user for a password before allowing
  offline updates. Now in unattended update mode, this prompt is hidden.

  So basically with that patch, unattended updates on Kubuntu just fail
  silently.

  Removing this patch (or at least reverting the change in this
  "org.freedesktop.packagekit.trigger-offline-update" action) makes auto
  updates work again.

  Please remove this change from the patch (or even the whole patch?
  this was last modified in 2012, so should be reviewed if still
  needed).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1957819] [NEW] Wayland dual monitor 60Hz: High pitch audio and fast playback

2022-01-13 Thread Troels Petersen
Public bug reported:

I described the issue here first:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1957816

I am not sure it belongs here, but after the initial report i made an
audio issue report with `ubuntu-bug -s audio`

copy/paste:

I have a desktop computer with a 60Hz 4K display connected through Display
Port. The display is a ThinkVision X1 with built in audio. With the Display
Port cable I am then able to output sound from the monitor and this works
without any issues.

https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/9b06ebb1edfddffea083ba36090af7eb7cad207b
 (bugfix)
  https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/17083 (test case)

  [Test Plan]

   * https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/17023 lists multiple ways
  how one can trigger the issue at hand, but also test case implements
  this issue too by explicitly attempting to load an engine multiple
  times and checking that it is operational.

  The test a is run during the build as part of the upstream regression
  test suite, for the shared library build (as static build does not
  support engines), so you'll see one pass and one skip in the log.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * Separately we have started to fix userspace packages that
  needlessly load configuration files multiple times, which used to
  trigger this issue. The codepaths changed are with engine use, how
  they are loaded/unloaded/used. It is possible that this fix will make
  some engines to start working and be used resulting in new behaviour.
  But also exposing bugs in the engines that previously were installed &
  configured but not actually used.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1956954] Re: Can't load seccomp filter

2022-01-13 Thread Paride Legovini
If you want to change the value without rebooting that's:

  sudo sysctl net.core.bpf_jit_limit=264241152

Add it to /etc/sysctl.conf if you want to set it automatically at boot,
but it's more meaningful to test as you said: wait for the issue to
happen and then change the value while the system is running.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1956954] Re: Can't load seccomp filter

2022-01-13 Thread Nino Škopac
Dear Paride,

Thank you so much

I'll wait for the issue to resurface and *then* bump the value in order
to have conclusive evidence.

How should I do it?
echo "net.core.bpf_jit_limit = 262144000" >> /etc/sysctl.conf (as sudo)

Will that work without restart? Because the problem goes away after I
restart.

Regards,
Nino

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1956954] Re: Can't load seccomp filter

2022-01-13 Thread Paride Legovini
Hi Nino, I found a RedHat bug [1] that describes a similar situation
(affected is dhclient on ppc64le, but the error is the same).

The suggested workaround is setting

  net.core.bpf_jit_limit = 262144000

via sysctl. I checked and on amd64 I find

  net.core.bpf_jit_limit = 264241152

while on an arm64 machine that's:

  net.core.bpf_jit_limit = 33554432

(both machines are running Bionic), so it looks arch-dependent indeed.
Could you please try bumping that value, and check if the issue goes
away?

If it does go away we can ask the kernel team what they think about
bumping it by default.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1957194] Re: resume from hibernation broken when resume image is autodetected another case

2022-01-13 Thread cvl-skubriev
Note.

This problem appears itself if the swap partition is located on a regular
partition of disk.
Initramfs hook resume write `RESUME=UUID=someuuid` to the
`conf/conf.d/zz-resume-auto`

If the swap partition is on a logical volume (e.g. LVM), then
`conf/conf.d/zz-resume-auto` has a variable with a device
`RESUME=/dev/commonvolumegroup/swap` and `/usr/share/initramfs-
tools/scripts/local-premount/resume` works properly.

This issue applies to both hibernation and hybrid sleep modes. Because
hybrid sleep mode is a combination of both modes (S4+S3).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1955797] Re: [SRU] network-manager can’t modify MTU automatically based on what ModemManager exposes for WWAN modems.

Title:
  [SRU] network-manager can’t modify MTU automatically based on what
  ModemManager exposes for WWAN modems.

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Focal:
  New

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Some 4G/5G mobile networks(for ex., AT&T) requires a specific MTU
  setting, this setting will be exposed by the ModemManager for network-
  manger to configure the MTU of the modem network interface .

  The current modem-manager v1.22.10-1ubuntu2.2  in focal can’t pass
  AT&T’s modem system certification.

  [Fix]

  This upstream patch can resolve this bug:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/merge_requests/499/diffs?commit_id=212758ea05a4c13d65f36b55c90aee7919642631

  [Test Plan]

  1. Use a Lenovo platform SE30 including 4G Quectel EM160 modem and an
  AT&T SIM card in US

  2. Enable 4G modem and connect to AT&T apn

  $ sudo mmcli -i 0 --pin=
  $ sudo mmcli --modem 0 --enable
  $ sudo mmcli -m 0 --simple-connect="pin=,apn=emome"
  $ sudo nmcli radio wwan on
  $ sudo nmcli connection add type gsm ifname wwan0p2MBIM con-name mymodem apn
emome
  $ sudo nmcli connection up id mymodem

  3. Check if the MTU got from the following results are the same:

  $ sudo mmcli --bearer 5 | mtu
  $ ifconfig mhi_mbim0 | grep mtu

  * Expected result:
  Both MTUs are the same value 1430
  * Actual tested result:
  Different values (one is 1430 , another is 1500)

  [Where problems could occur]

  Very low.
  This is a simple fix: network-manager gets the MTU from the ModemManager then
sets the MTU of the modem interface.

  [Other info]

  1. Network-manager v1.30.0-1ubuntu3 in hirsute has included the fix.
