[Touch-packages] [Bug 1982218] Re: wait-online does not correctly identify managed links

Title:
wait-online does not correctly identify managed links

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Ubuntu's packaging of systemd-networkd-wait-online includes a patch
  (UBUNTU-wait-online-exit-if-no-links-are-managed) intended to exit if
none of the present links are managed by systemd-networkd. However,
the patch fails to identify links in the "configuring" state, which
implies they are managed, but not yet fully online. This undermines
the purpose of systemd-networkd-wait-online with the --any option,
since at the time the systemd-networkd-wait-online service is started,
managed links are _likely_ in a configuring, but-not-yet-configured
  state.

Please see the attached patch. Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1993928] [NEW] Switching to new input method does nothing

2022-10-22 Thread O Gopal
Public bug reported:

I have ibus-m17n installed, but switching to a different input method
does nothing.

STR:
1. Make sure my 2nd input method (in my case, "Sanskrit (sa-IAST (m17n))"
appears under "Settings-->Keyboard-->Input sources."
2. Use alt-space to switch to my second input method.
3. Notice on the top panel that the indicator shows that the input method has
changed.
4. Attempt to key in some special characters (using Gedit, LibreOffice, etc.).

Expected result:
The special characters will appear.

Actual result:
The keyboard behaves as if the input method were my usual "English (US)."

No such problem with 22.04.

Removing and re-adding "Sanskrit (sa-IAST (m17n))" in Settings doesn't
solve the issue.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1951491] Re: Can't run snaps: .slice/session-1.scope is not a snap cgroup

2022-10-22 Thread Tim Richardson
@Akkana. My suspicion from digging around is that the problem happens
during login, not session start. Certain steps in the sessiond login
process need to be invoked for the session bus to work correctly. You will
see from other reports that this issue is with the dbus session bus not
being set up correctly. The report about cgroups is a consequence of that.
The workarounds prove this. When I looked into the session start up
process, the problem occurred before session start. systemd has
documentation on what the login needs to do, and I don't think this is
being followed when this problem occurs. I therefore think this is not
about the sessions, but the login process. It's why I wondered if you were
using a modern login manager (such as gdm3) because gdm3 is compliant with
systemd's requirements.
You could dp

echo $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS

from your console before you do startx, and see if it is valid. I'm going
to guess that it is not. When I spent some time looking at this a few
months ago, I had the impression that this variable needs to be set
correctly before the gui session starts.

Bug description:
I just upgraded from hirsute to impish using do-release-upgrade. On
the upgraded system, I can't run either firefox or chromium (both of
which worked fine under hirsute). Both fail with:

/user.slice/user-NNN.slice/session-1.scope is not a snap cgroup where
  NNN is my uid

With firefox, I was able to fix the problem with:

  snap remove --purge firefox
  apt purge firefox
  apt install firefox

Now firefox works. But I tried the same thing substituting chromium-
browser for firefox, and it didn't help: chromium fails with the same
  error message.

I guess there must be something left over from the hirsute version of
snapd that isn't getting noticed or cleared by the impish version?

Someone suggested this might be related to bug 1850667, but that bug
is marked fixed as of a couple months ago, and I just did this upgrade
today. Also, it doesn't mention the error message I'm seeing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1993920] [NEW] Some windows overflow to other monitors whenever they're near to border and wider than main screen

2022-10-22 Thread Diogo Domanski de Souza
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 22.10, some applications (for example, VSCode
and MySQL Workbench) are presenting weird behavior: if I move it to the
secondary monitor and maximize the window, it gets mirrored in the main
monitor.

I've made some tests and realized that this issue occurs if I place the
application window near to the divisor between the two monitors and this
window's width is greater than the main monitor's one.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1951491] Re: Can't run snaps: .slice/session-1.scope is not a snap cgroup

2022-10-22 Thread Akkana Peck
Tim Richardson: I'm not using a login manager, I'm logging in on the
console then running startx.

This is clearly not an openbox-specific bug since people have seen it in
many different environments, and besides, it only happens on Ubuntu with
Ubuntu snaps. The problem seems to be that snap has started to require
[some unknown system service or configuration] that it didn't need
before, which some desktop environments start and others don't. If we
knew what it was looking for, then people who need to run snaps could
make sure it was configured in their environments.

2022-10-22 Thread Uwe Schindler
*This* bug has the full information in the first post including all
needed to fix the problem. Actually there are more problems in the
script regarding syntax, so more issues exist, leading to unwanted
behavior.

After I come back from suspend the system looks fine, then once

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1993478] Re: package openssh-server 1:9.0p1-1ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: postinstall script returned 1

2022-10-22 Thread Chris M.
I deleted my account, so I had to create a new one. I used Linux
headless, I'll move away to a Systemd Linux distro that doesn't pull
shenanigans or tries to reinvent the wheel every update.

Whomever pushed this script didn't test it with anything else than the
default all commented ListenAddress and Port in the config. On my
install it failed to convert a custom Listenaddress and Port formatted
exactly as in the default sshd_config file:

Port 622
ListenAddress 0.0.0.0

The machine that didn't return an openssh-server error post-upgrade had
and almost untouched sshd_config with ListenAddress and Port commented
to use opensshd-server default ListenAddress/Port.

I know how to set ports with sockets. I didn't see the new # comment in the
sshd_config at first I just didn't get why the third party systemd socket was
taking precedence over the config from the original application package. The
machine that didn't fail installing openssh-server post-upgrade had a
/etc/systemd/system/ssh.socket.d/override.conf set.

Sorry if I hijacked your bug report a bit.

My machine is ASUS X202E. It has an Atmel maXTouch Digitizer. I
modified /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf to add the following
  options to the touchscreen section:

  Option "EmulateThirdButton" "1"
  Option "EmulateThirdButtonButton" "3"
  Option "EmulateThirdButtonTimeout" "750"
  Option "EmulateThirdButtonThreshold" "50"

are indeed set for the Atmel touchscreen device. However, when I touch
and hold my finger in the same spot on the screen, nothing happens!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1730469] Re: Display session freezes constitently on login after Win10 dual boot crash - Ubuntu 16.04

2022-10-22 Thread Paul White
Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-standard-support on April 29, 2021.

Further to comment #10 I'm closing this as 'Invalid' as it doesn't
appear from the information given that an update fixed the problem.

Maxime, I'm sorry that it took someone almost five years to acknowledge
your comment. Thanks for reporting your issue though.

Title:
Display session freezes constitently on login after Win10 dual boot
  crash - Ubuntu 16.04

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Hello,
I have a Sandybridge-B970 X301-Asus laptop. I am used to dual boot on it :
win10 and Ubuntu Xenial on a 275 GB SSD.
Yesterday I manually forced shut down on win10 which looked hung on
~"preparation... do not shut down".
Windows recovered, but Ubuntu was corrupted it seems.
Grub2 launches, Ubuntu boots. I reach lightdm greeter. Then I cannot input
mouse nor keyboard, and after a few inputs login prompt hangs. The UI displays
"connected to ethernet". I cannot Alt Gr Fx to other ttys.
I can REISUB, I can launch a recovery mode and get a root shell. I can SSH
after normal boot from an external Debian system.
Filesystem looks OK. Not sure but for some reason directories seems to have
appeared in /root (git..)

My SSD partitions : https://postimg.org/image/2hmo7pgfiz/, on top of
  debug info.

  Best regards!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1993478] Re: package openssh-server 1:9.0p1-1ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: postinstall script returned 1

2022-10-22 Thread msaxl
@crhis34 actually socket activated ssh is not that difficult to setup.
The issue for me is only that the upgrade of the configuration did not
work quite right (and I think it is really challenging to do that right)

but simply put you take the file
/etc/systemd/system/ssh.socket.d/addresses.conf

and write something like
[Socket]
ListenStream=
ListenStream=

(note the empty ListenStream=, that one is required to not listen on port 22)
followed by a systemctl daemon-reload

then if there is no /etc/systemd/system/ssh.service.d created by the upgrade
script then what I did was
systemctl enable ssh.socket && systemctl disable --now ssh.service && systemctl
start ssh.socket

an alternative might be doing that what the update script does:
override_dir=/etc/systemd/system/ssh.service.d
mkdir -p "$override_dir"
echo '[Unit]' > "$override_dir"/00-socket.conf
echo 'After=ssh.socket' >> "$override_dir"/00-socket.conf
echo 'Requires=ssh.socket' >> "$override_dir"/00-socket.conf

# deb-systemd-helper is inadequate for the task of
# changing policy for the units on upgrade
if [ -d /run/systemd/system ]; then
   systemctl daemon-reload
   systemctl disable ssh.service
   systemctl unmask ssh.service
   systemctl stop ssh.service
   systemctl enable ssh.socket
fi

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1683271] Re: webGLSL: "return" ignored in "if"

2022-10-22 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

This bug seems to have been fixed some time ago as I'm not seeing an
issue when using Chrome and Firefox in both Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04.
Comments in the link above imply that is the case.

Without any version information being given for Ubuntu, Firefox or
Chrome I'm closing this as probably being fixed in updates since this
bug report was raised.

x crashes when I log in and back out of a tty (console, cntrl-alt-F2
  thing, whatever)

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Observed behavior:

When I get an alternate tty, or whatever it's called, with cntrl-alt-
FN, where N is any digit, 2-6, inclusive; log in as the same user on
the console; do stuff; and then log out with "exit":

I'm suddenly back in tty1 and X has crashed. There is no x on any
console. I can start it again with startx.

  Expected behavior:

As it does in 14.04, I should just get a login prompt and stay in the
same console. X running in tty1 should be unaffected, like x in tty7
  would be unaffected in Trusty.

This is 64 bit Xenial with a minimalist Openbox environment, built from the
mini.iso. I start X with "startx".

  I'm using ubuntu 16.04, up-to-date, HWE kernel 4.8.0-36-generic.

On dual screen setup, during system login, the first screen stretches
over a part of the second screen (about 25% of it), whereas the rest
of the second screen is black. Like this:

  # # #<<|...#
  # Login# #<<|.Black.#
  # # #<<|...#

The part marked with "<<" is the rightest part of the background image

Running Ubuntu 16.04 64bit, 4.4.8 Kernel on an ASUS Trio with Intel® Haswell
graphics card and using i915 driver. After upgrade there is no HDMI output to
the external screen that I use daily.
  I did the following:
  - Upgraded to 4.4.8 Kernel hoping that the issue would be resolved.
  - Checked for other reports of this issue and followed advise to use NVIDIA
364 drivers.
  - Checked Intel for the most recent driver which is already packaged with
16.04; it is the i915 driver which is in use.
  - Used Intel driver update tool to ensure that update is correct.
  - Purchased a HDMI adapter to use mini-display port; works and reports HDMI1
is in use, but HDMI2 is not recognized (when monitor is plugged in to HDMI2)
  - Someone has assisted and has confirmed that there seems to be no hardware
issues.

(but setxkbmap -option alt win:ctrl_alt_win does works)

  Suggestion :
-Remove /etc/default/keyboard as it doesn't seems to serve any purpose other
than misleading people.
-Make somehow working as it should.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1716184] Re: failure of xrandr to find any outputs

2022-10-22 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner. I'm sorry that it took
almost five years for someone to acknowledge your comment.

Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-standard-support on April 29, 2021.

As this bug report was never confirmed by another user and seems to have
been fixed by a change to the system hardware I'm closing this by
changing the status to 'Invalid'.

Bug description:
I have a very new Lenovo X1 Yoga 2nd edition, with oled display.

Until recently things worked quite well. But on August 26 I got an update
from Ubuntu and
  things began to decay.

In particular, I can no longer display except on the built-in display: For
example, xrandr
cannot find any outputs, even though this laptop has a (working) HDMI output
port.

  xrandr --verbose

  v: height 1440 start0 end0 total 1440 clock 93.00Hz

Notice there are no (even disconnected) outputs other than default.

Another symptom is that system restart always turns off the power
  rather than rebooting.

I looked at the manifest of the update that seems to have caused trouble and
the only
suspicious entry is a microcode update from Intel.
Here is the entry from the apt history log:

  Start-Date: 2017-08-26 17:54:05
  Commandline: aptdaemon role='role-commit-packages' sender=':1.87'
  Upgrade: intel-microcode:amd64 (3.20151106.1, 3.20170707.1~ubuntu16.04.0),

I hope that someone knows what is the problem here. I am stumped.

This issue has sat without a response to comment #1 for almost two years
so it is being closed as 'Invalid'. The reporter gave us no indication
as to which 'LTS' release was being installed.

Please feel free to re-open this bug report if this issue has any
relevance when using a currently supported release of Ubuntu but please
make sure you tell us in which release you still experience this issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1993478] Re: package openssh-server 1:9.0p1-1ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: postinstall script returned 1

2022-10-22 Thread Christophe M.
Port
Specifies the port number that sshd(8) listens on. The default is 22.
Multiple options of this type are permitted. See also ListenAddress. Note: On
Ubuntu, the openssh-server package is configured to use systemd socket-based
activation by default. Therefore if you are using systemd with the default
configuration, Port options will not be honored. Address configuration must be
handled in /etc/systemd/system/ssh.socket.d instead.

# Port and ListenAddress options are not used when sshd is socket-activated,
# which is now the default in Ubuntu. See sshd_config(5) and
# /usr/share/doc/openssh-server/README.Debian.gz for details.
--

For me, the post upgrade error didn't happen on the machine that had the
default openssh-server port 22, but on the machine that had a custom
port and bind address. I had to purge and reinstall openssh-server to
fix the broken, partially installed, package post-upgrade.

I only noticed the new message in the sshd_config configuration file
after purging/reinstalling openssh-server second time on one of my
machine. I was multitasking during the upgrade process, if there was a
message about the new port configuration being a systemd socket, I
missed it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1993478] Re: package openssh-server 1:9.0p1-1ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: postinstall script returned 1

2022-10-22 Thread msaxl
slightly off-topic for those who find this before the 22.10 documentation:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/sshd-now-uses-socket-based-activation-ubuntu-22-10-and-later/30189

This bug is about the postinst script not being able to convert (or
keep) every configuration around.

In my case this is because the script is unable to parse ListenAddress
with port. The script should understand this formats (quote from man
sshd_config):

ListenAddress hostname|address
ListenAddress hostname:port
ListenAddress IPv4_address:port
ListenAddress [hostname|address]:port

only the first is supported (and [hostname|address] without port)
example of working statements
ListenAddress localhost
ListenAddress 127.0.0.1
ListenAddress [::1]
ListenAddress ::1

example of valid but not working statements:
ListenAddress localhost:
ListenAddress 0.0.0.0:
ListenAddress [::]:

When converting [::] I think BindIPv6Only=yes should be used, but that's
another topic

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:

Warning from zsys that bpool only had 11% free space when manually running
"apt upgrade". There were also several packages that could be "auto-removed".
Once apt autoremove was run, the linux-firmware was installed OK. Perhaps apt
(or package install) could:
  a) detect low disk space
  b) note that free space can be made with autoremove
  c) stop and raise an error, rather than crashing.
