[Touch-packages] [Bug 1890869] Re: [Clevo N350TW with Intel Corporation Cannon Lake PCH cAVS] no sound from speakers and headphones

2020-10-17 Thread bernd
Now I wrote a script like this (short form):

echo auto > /sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:1f.3/power/control
echo 1 > /sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:1f.3/remove
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan

When I boot LINUX the script runs as root in a loop until the ALC892 is
recognized.

But the ALC892 is only recognized after I hear a crack from the speakers.
Sometimes after 5 loops, sometimes after very many loops, sometimes never.
Always after a crack. It doesn't matter whether the laptop runs on a battery or
a charger.

Meanwhile, I believe that the problem has nothing to do with ALSA or
PULSEAUDIO. I think there is a problem with the pci scanning in
conjunction with ACPI or PCI-Power-Management. Maybe PM-UTILS too.

But that's for experts. I am not familiar with kernel drivers.

Bug description:
  Bluetooth HSP/HFP audio quality is poor on Ubuntu comparative to all
  other major platforms (Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, Android, iOS).

  Modern Bluetooth headsets (such as the Bose QC series headphones, many
  others) are capable of using HFP 1.6 with mSBC 16kHz audio encoding.
  As it currently stands, Ubuntu defaults to only supporting HSP
  headsets using 8kHz CVSD, and is incapable of supporting HFP 1.6 at
  this time.

  The ChromiumOS team recently tackled this issue -
  https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=843048

  Their efforts may assist in bringing this to Ubuntu, however it
  appears that there are quite a lot of differences considering they
  have developed their own audio server solution etc.

  The Bluetooth Telephony Working Group published the HFP 1.6 spec in
  May 2011 -
  https://www.bluetooth.org/docman/handlers/downloaddoc.ashx?doc_id=238193

  Patches have been proposed in the past for this issue to the kernel
  and PulseAudio:

  PulseAudio: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/245272/
  Kernel: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-bluetooth/msg76982.html

  It appears that the Chromium OS team applied the same kernel patch:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected

Is not installing third party drivers during OS installation and doing
an apt-get update/upgrade and installing third party drivers at this

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1829484] Re: krb5-multidev dependency broken with ESM Trusty Repo

Appears our automation removed the entry after adding it - so this most
likely is a human error on my part. Sorry for the inconvenience :-/

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1829484] Re: krb5-multidev dependency broken with ESM Trusty Repo

2019-05-17 Thread Bernd May
Thanks for the fast reply.

According to my knowledge I did not disable the repo but it seems that
it has actually vanished from /etc/apt/sources.list.d

I will investigate further to find out why its gone.

  Unable to mount lvmcache root device at boot time

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I'm experimenting with Vivid Vervet on a virtual machine and tried a
  new LVM feature, lvmcache. I made a cache for the root file system,
  rebuilt the initrd and rebooted the VM.

  At boot time, the system failed to activate the root LV. After some
  investigation, I found out, it's because the initrd is missing some
  essential stuff needed for activating a cached LV.

  The initrd was missing the dm-cache module. I regenerated the initrd
  with explicitly listing dm-cache in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules, but
  the system still can't boot up, because now it is missing the
  /usr/sbin/cache_check utility.

  As SSDs are becoming more and more common, I think it will be common
  to use them as cache for root file systems, thus it is mandatory to
  make sure that an initrd can mount an lvmcached root device when
  necessary, preferably without /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and other
  manual initrd hacking.

2018-07-30 Thread Bernd Wurst
Extended the workaround to read

dumpkeys |grep -v cr_Console | grep -v -E '^\s+alt\s+keycode.*Console_'
|loadkeys

  = Original Description =

  Multiple times a day I find myself without a session after hitting
  Ctrl+C in a terminal, it seems the input falls through the
  Ubuntu/GNOME session and to gdm, which itself decides to terminate.

  Even worse, when this happens, you can briefly see your login password
  in plaintext in the virtual terminal. You can see the password however
  long you want if you stop the gdm service when this happens.

  I don't have a good way to reproduce, but it seems locking the session
  with a keyboard shortcut, subsequently unlocking it, maybe suspending,
  at some point brings this behaviour into the picture, until the
  session dies with a Ctrl+C.

2018-07-30 Thread Bernd Wurst
I have this bug on 18.04 with alt+left.

After executing the dumpkeys/loadkeys workaround, then alt+left stops
doing strange things but now, alt+F4 drops me to console 4 which is even
worse.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1605189] Re: Authentication is required for suspending the system

suspend works for me ever since I did that.

  SRU information
  ===

  [Impact] It's not possible to install KDE and Unity in co-existence
  because of several file conflicts: many files under
  /usr/share/accounts/{providers,services}/ are provided by both the
  package "kaccounts-providers" and packages build from the "account-
  plugins" source package, for example 'account-plugin-facebook'.

  [Test case] Install both kaccounts-providers and account-plugin-facebook:
you'll get file conflicts for /usr/share/accounts/services/facebook-im.service
and /usr/share/accounts/providers/facebook.provider.
  You might get other conflicts as well, but those are due to bug 1565772 (also
nominated for SRU).

  [Regression potential] Minimal: the changed packages belong to the
  default KDE installation, and have already landed in Yakkety. Things
  appear to be working fine there: account creation is still possible
  under KDE, even after changing the file paths as per this fix.

  SRU information
  ===

  [Impact] It's not possible to install KDE and Unity because of several
  file conflicts: many files under
  /usr/share/accounts/{providers,services}/ are provided by both the
  package "kaccounts-providers" and packages build from the "account-
  pluigins" source package, for example account-plugin-facebook.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1605189] [NEW] Authentication is required for suspending the system

2016-07-21 Thread Bernd Schubert
Public bug reported:

Automatic suspend from the xfce power manager does not work, as a window

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1594627] [NEW] "apt show" reports misleading conflicts

2016-06-20 Thread Bernd Wechner
Public bug reported:

Packages are reported to conflict with themselves when they actually
conflict with a different architecture version of themselves.

For example (and as illustrated below using "apt show" and "apt-cache
depends") musepack-tools is reported to conflict with musepack-tools
(according to "apt show") but in reality (as revealed by "apt-cache
depends") conflicts with musepack-tools:i386.

That is misleading and concerning when read for the first time by
probably anyone and apparently a known issue:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/106203/why-do-some-packages-conflict-
with-themselves

I consider it a bug and file so accordingly. "apt show", should not
mislead as it does, but show at least the same output as "apt-cache
depends" does here.

Example runs:

$ apt show musepack-tools
Package: musepack-tools
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 2:0.1~r459-1ubuntu3
Priority: optional
Section: universe/sound
Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers
Architecture: amd64
Uncompressed Size: 342 k
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.15), libcue1, libmpcdec6 (>= 1:0.1~r435), libreplaygain1
 (>= 1.0~r412)
Conflicts: musepack-tools
Description: MusePack commandline utilities
 Musepack is an audio compression format with a strong emphasis on high quality.
 It's not lossless, but it is designed for transparency, so that you won't be
 able to hear differences between the original wave file and the much smaller
 MPC file.

 It is based on the MPEG-1 Layer-2 / MP2 algorithms, but since 1997 it has
 rapidly developed and vastly improved and is now at an advanced stage in which
 it contains heavily optimized and patentless code.

 This package contains various commandline utilities for MusePack files:
 * mpcenc (encoder)
 * mpcdec (decoder)
 * mpccut (cut MPC files without reencoding)
 * mpcgain (gain calculation)
 * mpc2sv8 (conversion to MusePack SV8 from older SV)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1507025] Re: Shell Command Injection with the hostname

2015-11-25 Thread Bernd Dietzel
@Marc
Yes , if some application has a bug , for example MintNanny :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1460835

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bash in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1507025

Title:
  Shell Command Injection with the hostname

Status in bash package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  If the HOSTNAME of the pc contains a shell command ,
  the command will run every time you start a terminal, tty or xterm.

  The command will also executed every time when you type in some command.
  If you for example change the directory , it will run again.

  Exploit Demo :

  1) edit "/etc/hosts"  to this :

  127.0.0.1 localhost
  127.0.1.1  `ls>bug`

  2) edit "/etc/hostname" to this :

  `ls>bug`

  3) reboot

  4) start a terminal

  5) Now a file with the name "bug" will in your home folder !

  6) Change the directory to Downloads with "cd Downloads/"

  7) Now a file with the name "bug" is in your Downloads !

  8) Remove the file with "rm bug"

  9) The file "bug" is still there !

  Have a look on the screenshot i have attached.

  Solution:
  The hostname should be checked if there are shell commands inside !!

  By the way :
  The hostname is not always in the hands of the root.
  Some people rent "vservers" and the hostname is in the hands of the isp.

If you want to fix something for ubuntu 12.04 or ubuntu 14.04
you can use my latest local patches.

Note: that in ubuntu 14.04 there is also a bug in the wpa_supplicant
which can lock up the radio work queue, which makes any further
WiFi connections impossible.

Fortunately that must have been fixed in the meantime, because
I found a fix in the upstream wpa_supplicant repository.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1181964] Re: Wireless connection does not re-connect

2015-11-21 Thread Bernd Edlinger
This is a wpa_supplicant fix that was found upstreams.
It is only necessary for ubuntu 14.04.

The wpa_supplicant from ubuntu 12.04 did not try to
do an internal scan for the AP, and does not need any fix.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1514183] Re: distutils : file "bdist_rpm.py" allows Shell injection in "name"

2015-11-12 Thread Bernd Dietzel
Hello Tyler,
i only used the setup script because the distutils.core.setup() function takes
such a large number of arguments, so its more easy to read than in one single
line of code.

No, i haven't reported this issue to upstream.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1512068] [NEW] Python ctypes.util , Shell Injection in find_library()

2015-11-01 Thread Bernd Dietzel
Public bug reported:

https://github.com/Legrandin/ctypes/issues/1

The find_library() function can execute code when special chars like ;|`<>$ are
in the name.
The "os.popen()" calls in the util.py script should be replaced with
"subprocess.Popen()".

Demo Exploits for Linux :

>>> from ctypes.util import find_library
>>> find_library(";xeyes")# runs  xeyes
>>> find_library("|xterm")# runs terminal
>>> find_library("&gimp")# runs gimp
>>> find_library("$(nautilus)")  # runs filemanager
>>> find_library(">test")   # creates, and if exists,
>>> erases a file "test"

 Traceback

>>> find_library("`xmessage hello`")# shows a message, press ctrl+c for
>>> Traceback
^CTraceback (most recent call last):

  Shell Command Injection with the hostname

Status in bash package in Ubuntu:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1507025] Re: Shell Command Injection with the hostname

2015-10-19 Thread Bernd Dietzel
Workaround ...
to make my modified "hostname.sh" script run at startup, i changed the file
/etc/rc.local

#!/bin/sh -e
#
# rc.local
#
# This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel.
# Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other
# value on error.
#
# In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution
# bits.
#
# By default this script does nothing.

/etc/init.d/hostname.sh start

exit 0

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1507025] Re: Shell Command Injection with the hostname

2015-10-18 Thread Bernd Dietzel
Thats better ... (the "-" was wrong in my previous posting )

HOSTNAME="${HOSTNAME//[^A-Za-z0-9_\-]/x}"

i attached a modified hostname.sh wich uses bash.

it can be startet manualy with

sudo  /etc/init.d/hostname.sh start

The command should somehow run at startup ... but does not by default ?

  9) The file "bug" is still there !

  Have a look on the screenshot i have attached.

  Solution:
  The hostname should be checked if there are shell commands inside !!

  By the way :
  The hostname is not always in the hands of the root.
  Some people rent "vservers" and the hostname is in the hands of the isp.

  `ls>bug`

  3) reboot

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1445913] Re: System hangs on restart on the Bq Aquaris 4.5

2015-09-06 Thread Bernd Petersohn
Yes,  this works.

I recently tried that in a slightly different situation and recognized
the textual boot menu that can be controlled with the volume buttons.

A moment ago I had again the restart problem as described above.
Pressing power and volume-up for 8 seconds actually caused the phone to
turn off. The boot menu appeared then after I turned on the phone again.

Thanks very much.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1445913] [NEW] System hangs on restart on the Bq Aquaris 4.5

2015-04-19 Thread Bernd Petersohn
Public bug reported:

It now happened the second time that I was not able to initiate a
restart of the system on my Bq Aquaris 4.5. This happened after I
pressed the power button for a few seconds and afterwards selected the
restart option.

Other symptoms are:

- The white screen with the black bq logo does not appear.
- Instead, a pale violet background is permanently shown. Backlight of the
display is on.
- The phone cannot be turned off by pressing the power button for longer.
- If the phone is connected to my desktop using an USB cable, the device is
recognized but cannot be mounted.

Since the battery cannot be physically removed on that phone, the only option
to solve the situation was for me to let it run
out of battery power until it turns off by itself. Afterwards, the phone can be
put to live again after connecting the power cable.

It appears as if the phone is hanging in the boot loader. The problem
may be more prevalent when battery power is already low (<50%) the time
the restart is initiated.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1317599] Re: Evince doesn't show "fi"-ligatures in a pdf file when tex-gyre is installed

Same problem with the µ symbol

demo pdf: http://www.ichaus.de/upload/pdf/DP_datasheet_C3en.pdf (page 4
right side, µA, µs)

when disabling texgyreheros font in KDE font settings then it will use
Nimbus-Sans L instead and the the problem disappears. But why does it
use a replacement font in the first place when ms corefonts Arial ttf is
installed and working?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1420068] [NEW] new Insserv location not in man page

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1349522] [NEW] Touchpad is not recognised on acer E5 771G

2014-07-28 Thread Bernd
Public bug reported:

HI all,

my touchpad is not recognised on my new Acer Aspire E5-771G. The
problems occurred right after the installation of Ubuntu. Strange enough
sometimes it works and after the next boot it doesnt.

On Windows 8.1 (i have dual boot) touchpad works fine.
Touchpad is not recognised, this meas there is no entry in xinput - list and no
entry in /proc/bus/input/devices. In these cases when touchpad is working there
are entries.

I tried gconftool statement, of course Fn+F7 every time, modprobe - r psmouse
and so on. Nothing worked.
Touchpad is by synaptics. Ubuntu version ist 14.04

Any help would be very appreciated.
Thank you in advance !
