Both unity and unity-2d are packages in the Trisquel repositories. You can
easily install them with your favourite interface to APT (e.g., the Synaptic
package manager).

Installing from Source

Installing from source is quite easy. I recently installed Apache 2.2 and PHP
5.2 from source. (It just took some time for me to get the correct Apache and
PHP versions combination.)

All you do is place the folder with the source code in /usr/local/src.

In the source folder, check if there is an executable called configure or
config, then type the following at the terminal inside the source folder:

$ ./configure

When that is done, type:

$ make

Then:

$ make install

Success at last!

I finally managed to install Trisquel 5.5 on my Acer 3660 laptop. When I
tried to install it before, I had Pinguy OS and Windows 7 dual-booted. I
tried to install Trisquel over Pinguy OS, but ubi-Partman crashed every time
during installation.

Later, I installed Xubuntu on the whole hard drive. Tonight, I decided to
give Trisquel another try and installed it on the whole hard disk, and it
worked!

My wifi alo works.

Free as in Freedom!

Darn. Setting option "DRI" to "false" does not work. I'm out of ideas.

I'm going to try adding Option "DRI" "false" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf to see
what that does.

nomodeset didn't work.

I tried booting twice and got a blank screen. The system did not seem to be
responding to the keyboard. CTRL-ALT-DEL didn't reboot the computer, and the
num lock key did not turn on the light on the keyboard.

Moderators "can" be annoying but at the same time they can also be very
useful. Especially if the forums have rules established. I know a forum
that is very well moderated. For example they have a for sale section where
users can trade and sell items. I feel safer trading there then on sites
like ebay. They have several safeguards in place such as needing an isp,
edu, mil, or gov email address (no yahoo, google, ect.) and you need 100
legit posts before you can trade and if you screw someone you are banned.

With moderators it can go both ways. They can be beneficial or degrade a
community. I guess that would be why you could also have administrators
(e.g. quidam) and hopefully a "dictator" mod would be taken care of swiftly.

Again, I have never installed owncloud and you had better read some
documentation. However I believe that, for security reasons, every component
(the Web server, the database and owncloud itself) are run by different
users. But you can certainly have the same password for each of them.

Don't take t3g too seriously and he won't bother you. He is like a character
representing the simple-minded conformist consumer. You might find him
entertaining. The thoughts of Rick Hodgin are interesting to read at least.

Moderators can be much more annoying. When power is given to a person, even a
seemingly good one, he can get intoxicated with it and start acting like
dictator.

Awesome, tested it and stopping it does indead make the page not show up in
my browser at https://localhost/owncloud. Though a possible big problem is
that when trying to check "Force SSL" it has a "Test SSL" link beside it so
you can see if it will work with your setup. But mine won't load :-( Is this
because of missing dependencies or is it a setting in Apache itself?

Also, on the start up page, it asks to create user names and passwords for 3
different users it seems (All words case letters are exactly as on the strart
up page.)

Administrator User
database user (already has owncloud typed in for the user name)
administrative user (already has "root" typed in for the user name)

Are the Administrator User and administrative user the same person? Or is the
administrative user the same as the root user on my system, and I should use
the same password as root on my system? Oooh and was that error message
caused by me not having the right things filled out?

I am gonna be taking notes on everything so that I can refer back to them and
on bug and annoy you guys if I forget some things later. :-P

You might want to try adding the nomodeset kernel parameter to grub config or
the driver options suggested here
