[Trisquel-users] R Stallman and Trisquel (google)
I know the topic is closed, but i want to come back at this issue. r Stallman calls Ubuntu ( after Ubuntu 12.04 ) spyware ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP8CNp-vksc) but what about Trisquel. Every website i visit is by default send to the DNS-servers of Google. I think Google is more sort of spyware than Canonical. I find this greatly disturbing. A Free OS , an advocate of Free Software, that let its users search the internet through Google. I dont understand this. BTW, i tried the suggestions in the other topic to replace the DNS-server, but i dont seem to understand how to do this.
Re: [Trisquel-users] R Stallman and Trisquel (google)
I take it you're talking about this thread https://trisquel.info/en/forum/you-might-be-using-google-name-server As quidam commented there, it was a mistake that's been fixed. To get rid of the google dns, edit these files as super user and remove the line with /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/original /etc/resolv.conf That's probably all you need to do. If however you cannot connect to the internet after that, you need to (put temporarily thoes back so your net works) and then find some other name servers and put those in the files instead.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is OpenDNS safe to use?
I strongly discourage any user to use the tor network for the following reasons: 1) Bundled browser is full of vulnerabilities (Remote access included) 2) Most of the nodes are owned by people who will perform Mitm attacks even more if you use a layer 7 encrypted protocol. The chances of having an outgoing node that does spy and perform Mitm are absolutely not 0. 3) The bandwith on that network is limited. Even if that network transport all kind of dogshit, it does also transport legit traffic in countries where acting out of the box might get you killed. OP was is OpenDNS safe to use? ... My answer is no because you do not own it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is OpenDNS safe to use?
Is it possible to create your own basic personal DNS server? A bit like creating your own personal email server? Or is such a personal setup not possible in DNS form for some reason?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wireless N USB Adapter for GNU / Linux (TPE-N150USB) dropped packets
Yes, a AR5B22 based card from eBay is the top pick nowadays. It should cost you something around 6 bucks (note that this card has bluetooth integrated, but it will not work since ath3k requires non-free firmware blobs - just ignore that). If that's too much for you, you can choose a lower-end AR5B125 based card, that should cost around 2 bucks. The first card is 2x2:2 MIMO, while the second one just 1x1:1. But I warn you, do not try to switch the internal card without guidance! Every laptop model have this card located in different parts, so you may found it directly accessible from under the keyboard (e.g. ASUS EeePC 1001PX), from the backside (e.g. Toshiba Satellite L40-14F), and sometimes you need to disassebly the top, or the bottom side completely in order to get an access to it (e.g. my Sony VAIO VPCZ13Z9E/X). And there are other things to pay attention to, so if you want to make the process smooth right from the first time, you will come back to this forum once you get your shiny new card to get help. You can then PM me through my profile contact form.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Mini USB wifi adapter recommendation
Sorry to say that, but you're wrong. I'm not the only one having serious issues with those adapters.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mini USB wifi adapter recommendation
If have problems with that adapter you can buy this one: TP-Link TL-WN821N Is cheap and work fine. You can find this adapter from h-node.org
Re: [Trisquel-users] Great news! : Updated GNU Framework Tries To Push Free JavaScript
Yeah, I haven't seen SourceMaps used used as much as it should, but that's probably because of it being a fairly new technology. From experience, I try to minify my JS files as much as possible on a live site for the file size. If I want to make the source available, I put in a SourceMap link to the unmodified JS file with the source file having some license headers. The majority of developers don't know or care about having a license for their JS files. If they do know a thing or two, they intentionally make it non-free in a worry that a competitor steals the code.
Re: [Trisquel-users] R Stallman and Trisquel (google)
Isn't the new 6.01 ISO supposed to fix this in addition to having the Saucy kernel and Xserver updates. We are getting to a point where an official release needs to happen ASAP as the current ISO is over a year old at this point.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mini USB wifi adapter recommendation
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/TP-LINK_TL-WN821N_v4 shows that a version of TL-WN821N has a Realtek chipset (that needs nonfree firmware), so not every device labeled as it works with free software: buy it only if you are sure it's one of the first three versions. I have TL-WN722N which is bigger, I think it has no version with an unsupported chipset yet. pgp32IgaM5D5g.pgp Description: PGP signature
[Trisquel-users] How can I remaster Trisquel?
Hello, I would like to make my own ISO of Trisquel with the packages and the config files I want on it. However, I don't know how such a process work. Thank you all in advance for your answers.
Re: [Trisquel-users] R Stallman and Trisquel (google)
I know it was a mistake, but it's one of a few really serious ones... google dns, running ssh etc. I think one active developer is just not enough for maintaining a secure system.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mini USB wifi adapter recommendation
True. thanks for correcting it Michal.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Linux-image 3.5 it could not be installed
Again! It's impossible to install or to update the kernel 3.5 or 3.11 Che due palle!!
Re: [Trisquel-users] maps program
Re: [Trisquel-users] R Stallman and Trisquel (google)
It sure helps although more developers usually mean a finer division of the work and not people checking each other's works. E.g., Debian, the largest free software project, had a critical bug in OpenSSL for two years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSSL#Vulnerability_in_the_Debian_implementation

The chances of having an outgoing node that does spy and perform Mitm are absolutely not 0. First of all, an MITM attack is not possible for normal Tor nodes as they can only see encrypted traffic. For the exit nodes, however, MITM attacks are indeed possible and have been done before.* However, if you are using end-to-end encryption, an MITM attack is presumably not possible without your browser warning you, providing that the CA system is secure. This is not unique to Tor, by the way, as MITM attacks are possible on ANY network. Regarding MITM attacks, you should also read: https://blog.torproject.org/blog/plaintext-over-tor-still-plaintext and the usual Tor warnings: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en#warning * see Exposing malicious exit relays under https://blog.torproject.org/blog/tor-weekly-news-%E2%80%94-january-22th-2014 3) The bandwith on that network is limited. Indeed, but Tor users often change their web browsing and internet usage habits to adapt to the slower speeds. Tor is also much faster now than it was, say, a few years ago. Even if that network transport all kind of dogshit, it does also transport legit traffic in countries where acting out of the box might get you killed. I don't understand what you mean. OP was is OpenDNS safe to use? ... My answer is no because you do not own it. I think the meaning of safety is vague and difficult to answer. Andrew.
Re: [Trisquel-users] R Stallman and Trisquel (google)
Yes, exactly, so let's stop the FUD please. The Google DNS thing, for example, wasn't even inherited from Ubuntu. It had nothing to do with Trisquel being based on Ubuntu, has been fixed, and now it's time to move on. I really don't want this to turn into another thread of people trying to blur the lines between Trisquel and Ubuntu, going OMG Trisqbuntu!

Re: [Trisquel-users] R Stallman and Trisquel (google)
Doing a regular upgrade, or grabbing a new CD image and doing a clean install with it? No upgrade ever changes config settings; that would be a terrible behavior of the upgrade system (imagine finding that all of your bookmarks were lost because it was decided that the default settings needed to be changed, for example). So this was not a problem that could be fixed with upgrades.

Re: [Trisquel-users] R Stallman and Trisquel (google)
Many free software projects that are one developer don't thrive. Especially when the developer has a full time job and the project is secondary. The most successful free software/open source projects are backed by a commercial entity or are established enough to make their money as part of a software foundation with commercial supporters. But what about this community that is supposed to be the life blood? Most of the time, the decisions are made only by a select few as part of a meritocracy. A community user is often told to fix it himself if he has an issue with something, but the majority of the time he is ignored when its intended to be integrated upstream. You may as well be a one man team.

And no, the problem isn't with my program. The program is a simple Hello World program, and these errors occur even with the command valgrind python
