I find lazarus in the Trisquel repositories
sudo apt-get install lazarus
But I think that must be removed from
repositories
Because lazarus cause a license violation.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Specifically, the LCL, which is statically built into the produced
executables, is licensed under a modified version of the LGPL, granting extra
permissions

to allow it to be statically built into the produced software, including
proprietary
 ones.

Note that installing a
design-time
package is equivalent to linking to the IDE. Thus, distributing the Lazarus
IDE with a GPL-incompatible design-time package (e.g. the

JEDI
packages, which are licensed under the
Mozilla Public License
) pre-installed would cause a license violation.

Anyway
I used gtk to develop programs
I have not used any ide
I use emacs

I tried to install Lazarus from the repositories for some weeks ago, but the

thing, it's useless in it's current state anyway.

The best way to learn is, however, to edit other wiki pages and look how
things are done there. The syntax used on Trisquel's wiki is broken, buggy,
and limited, so you will also need to learn how to overcome some of these.

My two cents

TOR SOFTWARE is a good thing, it gives you freedom of anonymity.
Since, it is a means of anonymous communication, that could or will be use to
disseminate orders, plans, and classified information. Hard to cypher, their
real intent. They could hurt you, when it is used by the wrong minds and
hands. Such as radical groups. Knowing this, I really don't live a live in an
egg shell of conspiracies. I live the facts that there is people planning and
always conspiring to destroy our way of life..

[Trisquel-users] Canon MG5200 -- Nonfree Printer Drivers

2014-07-06 Thread Finn 'Gallefray'

Ahoy there!
I just installed Trisquel Toutalis on my parent's computer (I'll be
migrating them from
windows in the next week or so), only to discover that the only drivers
available for
the main printer are non-free software. I can't seem to find any
alternative free drivers,
so I may be forced to install the non-free drivers as a last resort
(lesser evil and all).

I'd very, -very-, *very* much like to avoid doing that.

So, is there anything I missed?
Or, failing that, any effort I can contribute to, or anything I do (as
an intermediate-level C programmer or otherwise) to (help) create a free
port of the drivers?

Thanks!

- Finn

What about Vala [0]? Its systax is similar to Java or C# but is almost as
efficient as C.

Vala is the language chosen by elementary [1] to develop their applications
and GNOME games are being ported to it as well.

Glade [2] is another option for UI design, if you prefer GTK+ instead of Qt.

PySide and PyQt4 are basically identical in function with Python 3. PyQt4 has
old cruft in the Python 2 version, so PySide is clearly a winner if you're
using Python 2, but otherwise, the only major difference is the license, and
the license difference doesn't matter if you're using the GNU GPL anyway.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Canon MG5200 -- Nonfree Printer Drivers

It looks like Gutenprint is in the repository (and thus free software,
hopefully).

That said though the best thing to do is pay attention to the hardware your
looking to buy before you buy it. That way you don't end up (as its extremely
easy to do) with hostile hardware.

While HP (in the printer arena) has one of the best selections of clearly
free software friendly printers even they aren't perfect. There are many many
HP printers dependent on non-free code. HP does have some pretty good
documentation though which can be very useful in narrowing down what is and
is not free software friendly. There are some other issues related to the
drivers actually bundled with Trisquel not yet having support for whats
currently being sold, and the HP drivers having some non-free pieces which
can also make it difficult to distinguish whats good and whats not of the
current models readily available

If I cannot recompile Trisquel through the source ISO, then what is the
source ISO for?

I have a computer running Trisquel which crashes and restarts on its own
every few days or so. I think that recompiling Trisquel specifically for that
system might solve the problem. What do you think?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Canon MG5200 -- Nonfree Printer Drivers

2014-07-06 Thread chris
The first thing that comes to my mind is a commonly yelled phrase among a
certain political persuasion and age bracket: get a job”. No, I'm not of
that persuasion. However I think having a job would give you a vivid
understanding of why there are so many more financially insecure young
individuals here.

Essentially what it boils down to is young people have been disenfranchised
by economic conditions and recently passed laws in some countries that make
it difficult for employers to hire young candidates. When you have a larger
younger educated populous with nothing to do they have the time to post on
such forums.

For those here without jobs who don't understand this I'll say this: People
with jobs don't have time to post on internet forums in most cases. It's just
that simple.

Yes- there are some exceptions to this. I know some relatively young bright
25-30 year olds who were lucky and made it rich-or are otherwise doing well
on these very forums. However they are people who created opportunities for
themselves. They didn't necessarily seek out employment. The quite literally
started projects, companies, or similar to fill some niche, and that
propelled them forward.

If the jobs don't exist you have to “make them”. It's harder said than
done of course. Particularly for those in situations where there is
significant educational debts (of which can't be absolved via bankruptcy,
etc), no housing / food security, etc.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Compile Trisquel from Source

2014-07-06 Thread Andrew Lindley
First, the source ISO is there so you can study and change the source
for the programs on the install CDs as per Freedom 1. You can't
build the whole of Trisquel from it because that's tens of thousands
of packages which won't all fit on one DVD. You could build a
Trisquel install CD from the DVD. However, the Trisquel developer
git repos contain a better way of doing this if you have a decent
Internet connection.

Second, I seriously doubt recompiling Trisquel specifically for your
system is the right thing to do for your problem from your
description. You haven't given us any of the answers to the who,
what, why, where, when and how questions of software problem
diagnosis which would evidence that it was necessary. Have you done
the basic things like unplug all non-essential peripherals and
checked the logs for things like kernel oops if it happens after that?

Re: [Trisquel-users] dvgrab: Error: no camera exists

2014-07-06 Thread Andrew Lindley

The bug you quote is for Natty, most likely it's not that.

Try making yourself a member of group video and logging out then back
in again. That should fix any permissions problem you're having.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Compile Trisquel from Source

2014-07-06 Thread det31995
I have no real reason to believe that recompiling would solve my problem. I
just thought it was worth a shot.

The only non-essential peripheral it has is an external hard-drive.

I have never looked at a log before. Syslog looks interesting. I'll try
working with that information.
