I can answer No 2, Yes, Ice cat is now the default browser as maintaining
A-browser was a little ineffcieint as it was duplicating work that Ice cat
had already done.

Better to just put all efforts into a single program when possible.

Hello,

Another solution that worked for me is to remove or change the '.desktop'
extension of the following file:

/usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/orca-screen-reader.desktop

To do so,
open a terminal (right-clic on the desktop - clic 'Open in terminal') and
type in

cd /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow
sudo mv orca-screen-reader.desktop orca-screen-reader.desktop.bkp

then type your password when asked for.

Interesting video.

But - why are the laptop lids closed?

The detected typing is done very slowly and deliberately - does that mean

On the face of it, it does look like worst fears may be true. But it could
just as easily be faked to appear that way.

[Trisquel-users] GNOME 3 Installation How to

I have a fresh install of Trisquel 6.0.1 and I want to install GNOME 3. I got
this from an old post
(https://trisquel.info/en/forum/gnome-3-trisquel-6#comment-28627):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-session

and some instructions from here () ragarding PPA:

Before upgrading your system to a new Ubuntu release (i.e. from Ubuntu 13.04
to 13.10), you should probably run ppa-purge ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 first.

*** You need to run 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' to avoid problems. ***
Please read the output before entering 'Y' to make sure important packages
won't be removed.

What I do not understand is:

 1) aptitude full-upgrade
 2) install gnome 3 ppa and then gnome-session

or

 1) install gnome 3 ppa and then gnome-session
 2) aptitude full-upgrade

My first run of the script was successful, and I now have a
basename-matches PDF. I renamed the match file to word-word-#ofhits.pdf

I run the script a second time, on that basename-matches PDF
(word-word-#ofhits.pdf), to achieve the and functionality. Unfortunatley,
on this second run, I don't don't seem to get a new match file at the end.

I tred twice -- for the first And run, I got thousands of hits, and no
match file. The second time, I searched for something more rare, got 180
hits, but no match file in the end.

Any ideas on why this could be happening?

This is the terminal message I see at the end:

[Trisquel-users] Re : finding particular pages within PDFs

Here is what was happening: 'pdfunit' expects *several* PDFs to unite. Not
one.

I corrected the problem (when one single PDF matches, the script uses 'mv'):

Re: [Trisquel-users] finding particular pages within PDFs

2014-09-07 Thread adel . afzal
Trisquel comes with programs like mv and pdfunite right? Do most gnu users
(like me until very recently) have them on the computer and not use them? Or
do popular GUI programs depend on these kinds of programs to do things (like
export to pdf in LibreOffice)?

[Trisquel-users] Re : finding particular pages within PDFs

2014-09-07 Thread magicbanana
'mv' really is a basic command to move files (notice that moving to the
same directory but under a different name actually is renaming). It has
been present in every UNIX or UNIX-inspired system since the seventies.

The commands provided by the Poppler project (the poppler-utils package in
Trisquel) are present in Trisquel by default. The reason is that CUPS, the
printing system, depends on those commands. I therefore assume it uses them
(probably to convert PDF to PostScript for printers that do not support
direct PDF printing).
