Hello everyone, a friend of mine wanted to format her computer (Samsung R730), so I told her to try the trisquel mini live and see if she likes it. Things was going good but: When a youtube video is opened with midori works fine for few seconds and then the browser just crashes and close; When a youtube video is opened with icecat it gives An error occurred, please try again later. When a Vimeo video is opened the audio is working but not the video; Any other streaming just does not work (plain black); when a video or an mp3 file is opened the audio is not working. gnash is activated, javascript for those pages enabled, don't know how to proceed. I got a bit frustrated 'cause she was close to install it but this thing scared her a bit. I am not a trisquel user but it's my distro of choice for people coming from windows. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Why not try to deactivate (well, perhaps uninstall) gnash and see if YouTube works, at least with Icecat.

I have 2 systems: 1 runs Trisquel 7.0 and other Manjaro 0.8.12. They are connected through a switch (which gets output from router). I have connected to internet from Trisquel and want to connect Manjaro through it. In order to do this I tried setting up squid server on triesquel. Manjaro IP is allowed in the configuration. I can ping trisquel IP from Manjaro but cannot connect to Internet with error Connection Refused or connection timed out. Following is the code from the squid.conf: http_port 3128 acl localnet src 192.168.1.0/24 # RFC1918 possible internal network http_access allow localnet http_access allow localhost

Let me try to explain my problem. Forgive for confusion Both of the systems are connected through wired switch (I dont have any wifi device). I can use internet on any one at a time. However, I want to use internet simultaneously on both systems. For this, I tried to setup squid server (trisquel server with local IP 192.168.1.1) and use its proxy on other (Manjaro client with local IP 192.168.1.2). As of now, I can successfully ping squid server through client. But, Manjaro client cannot connect to Internet. I get error as connection refused. What is going wrong?

If both systems are connected through the switch, then both systems should be able to simultaneously access the net. That is what a switch is for! You need not make the packets pass from one system to the other. Maybe your DNS is not properly configured. Can you ping remote IP addresses from both systems? 'ping' gives you the sequence of numbers that make the IP address.

I think you didn't configure a transparent proxy. Did you configure your other system to use the proxy server? Did you check whether the squid daemon is running and socket connection has been opened for listening on port 3128?

Upon fresh install under Gnome just opening Synaptic Package Manager would cause CPU peak at 100% I had to shut down,this happened on several installations.Installing LXDE XFCE solved it. Anyone know if FSF compliant UI mockup/sketching tools exist? I basically want to design a mockup/sketch of a website on GNU/Linux, but can't seem to find a took which is FSF compliant. Does such software exist in the FSF world?

As far as I understand you (it is not that clear), the Trisquel system has two network interfaces. An Ethernet interface and a Wifi interface I guess (all laptops and some desktops have that). You can connect the Trisquel system with the Ethernet cable and then the other system (have you tried Parabola GNU/Linux, which is based on arch and 100% free?) connects through Wifi. To do that, the Trisquel system must act as an access point. There is a button for that at the bottom of the Network window (launched from the System settings). I used to do that some versions ago and the package dnsmasq had first to be installed (from the Synaptic package manager for instance).

quantum - debian wheezy never suggested to install the non-free firmware required by the ati-crap in my lappy. I guess they fixed that.. But iceweasel on a fresh install after visiting some websites suggested the installation of flash-player! :(

In your second answer you state, that I am distributing non free software. In your fourth answer you are not sure. In your second answer you do not mention that I am recommending nonfree software on the forum. I take at first you reckoned I was not recommending the piece of software in question. In your fourth answer you are sure I am recommending. In your second answer you state nothing about supporting. In your fourth answer you state I may be supporting. In conclusion you have in 2 separate answers contradicted yourself about distributing, recommending and supporting. Telling someone you use a piece of software does not in itself imply that you recommend it, likewise it does not imply that you recommend against it. That is not a strong case when it is about limiting a user's freedom of speech on this forum. You should only limit freedom of speech if a breach is evident. No forum administrator has concluded that I have not complied to all and any rule on this forum regarding this post.

Welcome to Trisquel! You may have accidentally enabled the screen reader. To disable it, open up the system settings, open the Universal Access category, and flip the screen reader on/off switch to off.

[Trisquel-users] trisquel 7 weird spying voice
Hi Everyone, I installed trisquel 7 today and I didn’t have sound. I went to the sound setting and pushed the slider all the way beyond 100% to see if I can hear anything. I then started to hear a spying voice saying every click or move I make on the laptop whether browsing, switching windows, clicking on buttons or browsing the trisquel menu even saying every result of terminal code like for example apt-get update. This made me scratch my head. Can everyone please confirm this. I am not sure if this is normal or not. I have not installed anything new. I started using the system as is after finishing the installation. The system is using alsa for sound.
