[Trisquel-users] Abrowser Doesn't Sync. Broken? How do I fix it?

2015-09-26 Thread davidpgil
Hello, I just got my Trisquel laptop from Los Alamos Computers
(laclinux.com). I am trying to get Abrowser to "Sync" my bookmarks, etc, but
I find it is just hanging indefinitely after I enter my login details. Any
idea what is going on?

I am trying to avoid installing IceCat since I feel its not necessary to
install another browser when Abrowser should be working.

Another note - I am an advanced beginner in Linux, so I would appreciate more
descriptive help with this. Many thanks.

- David

PS - I have attached a screen shot of where I am stuck at.

[Trisquel-users] Audio problems

2015-09-26 Thread lopezmasdiego
Hey guys, this is my first time over here. Unfortunately I've been having an
annoying problem with my fresh install of Trisquel 7.0 on my new pc build. I
set my system volume at 100% and every time it lowers itself down to 50%. I
am a complete newbie so I have no idea how to solve this, any help will be
appreciated.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wired & Ars Technica (2nd one) write articles on FCC banning free software (FCC wifi campaign)

2015-09-26 Thread strypey
I haven't read deeply into this yet, but I do understand the FCC's concerns.
The wireless spectrum has been carefully divided into different segments for
different uses, some of which are mission critical to people's physical
safety (emergency services comms, maritime comms, mountain radio etc). There
does need to be regulation of the way any wireless device is used to ensure
it doesn't clash with other users. However, it sounds like what the FCC is
proposing is regard to wifi devices is incredibly heavy-handed, and seem
motivated by others agendas (eg telecoms corporations concerned about the
potential of projects like the Free Network Foundation to reduce their
market).

Like copyright, wireless regulation does not need to be enforced through DRM.
People misusing wireless devices are much easy to find and stop, and
prosecute where there is evidence of malicious intent, than unauthorized
copiers (via triangulation). More to the point, most wifi is limited by its
hardware, and cannot broadcast much beyond the boundaries of a residential
property, so it has no chance of interfering with anything mission critical.
Surely wifi devices capable of stronger signals than that could be
constrained by the design of the hardware to prevent them being used
maliciously, rather than with the "security by obscurity" of proprietary
drivers/firmware? The technical limitations the FCC is proposing would also
prevent a plethora of legitimate uses of wifi, including running wifi devices
with free code drivers and firmware, and are unreasonably and unnecessarily
restrictive.

Welcome to the community.

It is not very clear to me what the issue is. I mean, I know you have an
issue with the sound volume but it is not very clear when and how this
happens. Does this happen when you log out/login or restart the OS?

Or is this happening during your user session?

I like very much pavucontrol (if you use pulse audio) and if I recall
correctly, inside the pavucontrol settings there's a way to set your sound
volumes and also LOCK them so they don't change.

cheers

[Trisquel-users] Trisquel on Baytrail based PC-s

2015-09-26 Thread cyberdevoper

Hi

I have Ainol mini PC with intel z3735f based CPU

I have trying to install Ubuntu based distros(Not trisquel so far)on Micro SD
cards by adding 32bit grub in boot section on the USB3.0 flash drive.

Goal was to create dualboot environment(eMMC for windows and Micro SD card
for ubuntu based distro) .

As someone who didn't used windows since XP i decided to buy one of these
PC-s because Windows 8.1 is last OS that will not be able to penetrate
personal data as Windows 10 can(by license at least) .

As windows 8.1 with bing and firmware provided so i can rollback anytime was
a pretty good deal, also hearing that BIOS have a lot of features was a good
deal too ,however there are some catch in this.

64bit CPU on 32bit UEFI with 64bit OS.

No legacy boot option inside.

So far i had success to access OS but wifi wasnt visible and Setup was
extremely slow and always breaks.

Any ideas what can i do

Matthew,

How did you install orca 3.18? I did this from the Ubuntu
accessibility development ppa, and have orca talking. If you add the
ppa and upgrade your system, you will get, not only orca 3.18, but all
its dependencies like python2at-spi, pyatspi, and at-spi2-core.
?There are more, but those are the three that come immediately to
mind. Here's what to do if you can:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:accessibility-devel
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

When this is done, restart. Orca will be at 3.18, and its dependencies
will match.

Can you log into your Trisquel machine using ssh from elsewhere on
your network? that would be the best way to do this, I think. Or, you
might be able to start the live cd, open a terminal, sudo -i, mount
your hard drive as an entry in /mnt, chroot into the mounted system,
and do the commands I mentioned. When done, exit the chroot, unmount
the system, exit the sudo -i, and reboot from your drive again.

Write me off list; perhaps we can get on the phone, or something, and
we can get this fixed.

Happy to help,

Dave Hunt

Good afternoon trisquel users. My name is Matthew Dyer and have just joined

versin 7 and discovered a problem after upgrading orca to the latest orca
to the latest version which of this message is 3.18.0. I restorted orca or
should say I made an attempt to restart it and in doing so found that I had
no speech. I have tried everything from support ault S to typing orca

Is there a way to rectify this without having to reinstall the os and having

Or buying a USB card compatible with Libre software.

Re: [Trisquel-users] thinkpad x220 wireless problem

2015-09-26 Thread chris
If you have a Lenovo, HP, Toshiba, Sony, Apple, or Dell computer I'd
definitely recommend going with a USB wifi adapter over a PCIE/M2 card as
these companies use digital restrictions or other proprietary parts. If you
have a Lenovo system with LibreBoot already then go with a mini PCIE card.
That's the only exception for these companies. I'd generally recommend
avoiding said companies for these reasons.

If you are technical and have another manufacturer's laptop your probably
better off replacing the internal mini PCIE or M2 wifi card as there are
other problems one can run into still with USB (however small of a chance
it's smaller with mini PCIE and M2 on other brand laptops). The desktops are
more of a toss up between PCI/PCIE and USB. I'd probably go with the PCI over
PCIE as it seems to be less likely to run into a problem with (some
manufacturers have non-standard PCIE slots which won't work with all PCIE
cards and sometimes this is the only PCIE slot on a system).
