[Trisquel-users] New GNU ethical criteria for code repositories emphasize privacy, freedom, and copyleft
http://www.fsf.org/news/gnu-ethical-repo-criteria Place your bets. Will any of GitHub, GitLab, NotABug, git.framasoft.org be considered ethical?

Does the disk work in another machine?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Alternate proposal for FCC's (indirect) ban on free software : require the release of code
Yea- Dave was in a much better position to organize the developers to get behind this. I'm glad he took part. He saw others jumping on it and started working on stuff as well. It really took quite a few people to pull all this off and most of it was really even just the dedication of a small handful- maybe half a dozen people or so- and then some participation by a few dozen others. None of it is/was terribly organized. It was just a bunch of people forming basically two or three groups/mailing lists and then everybody going off into there own worlds of existence here or there to further the effort. We're not actually in agreement on everything- but ultimately it's close enough. For example: We were really not wanting to make any proposals to the FCC and Dave was. The reason being I believe was we can get more people to oppose it if there is solution. That is to say we really just want the FCC to drop it. In a sense Dave is hi-jacking it in an effort to do more. While I don't think anybody objects to the more part it could hurt the end results in getting the FCC to back off. Anyway- I'm still not convinced the FCC is listening to us. They responded October 8th and basically said we don't want to do X and yet they still have rules and proposed rules that will result in causing the problems. We'll see what happens. If ThinkPenguin is hit we'll go down screaming and point out every hypocritical things the FCC has said about not wanting to ban "open source". But even if they don't attack us for not locking devices down the end results are still a problem if upstream uses it as a reason to refuse release of code (they already are using it at as a reason by the way).
[Trisquel-users] Dual Boot Macbook Pro 2, 2 Intel Core 2 Duo 10.6.8 rEFInd
Hello, and thank you for your assistance! I'm trying to get my friend started with free software and have had one hell of a time getting Trisquel to boot on an older Macbook Pro 2,2 running OSX 10.6.8. rEFInd is installed and working properly, as far as I can tell. I have the Trisquel 7.0 i686 iso burned to a DVD. When the Macbook boots, rEFInd comes up but the disc is not recognized. Scanning for bootable optical discs (by pressing ESC) does not fix the problem. I am willing to do whatever is takes to get Trisquel installed on this computer! Any guidance is greatly appreciated. I am a novice but eager to help my friend on the path towards liberation. I've been unable to find any documentation anywhere that explains what the problem might be. In fact, Ruben, who maintains Trisquel, was trying to help us during the FSF's 30 birthday celebration, but we weren't able to resolve the issue! Please help! Thank you!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Dual Boot Macbook Pro 2, 2 Intel Core 2 Duo 10.6.8 rEFInd
Unfortunately, holding down alt/option while powering on only displays the hard disk with Mac OS. Interestingly, when the same iso is on a bootable USB, rEFInd finds it, but because of the BS firmware, it refuses to boot.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Dual Boot Macbook Pro 2, 2 Intel Core 2 Duo 10.6.8 rEFInd
It doesn't sound like rEFInd is working properly. Can't you just hold the alt key and when powering on to select the Trisquel installer? (It should be incorrectly labelled as Windows.) I know that GRUB works well with many different macbook models.

Thanks; I like the way 4 and 5 came out, and think 5 is my best yet. Feeling more confidence in my speaking.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Dual Boot Macbook Pro 2, 2 Intel Core 2 Duo 10.6.8 rEFInd
Embarassing. It turns out the disc I was using was corrupted during the burning process. I'm happy to announce I'm writing this with the freshly installed Trisquel 7.0.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Making radeon work again by bringing back Linux-libre 3.4
Also in my case I think I had to run sudo update-initramfs -u -K all in order to apply it to all kernels.

"You have to understand the reason we do this. You preach freedom too, but you use non-free software too don't you?" The point is: how does someone "preach freedom"? Telling people to value freedom is one thing, criticizing others for making compromises while doing the very same thing, that's what I don't like. Many people here in this forum here claim to be hardcore-uptight when it comes to freedom and think they have the right to blame other people for making compromises. Well, guess what. I'm going to say something many people here don't want to here: In this community _nobody_ is completely uptight about freedom and _everybody_ is making compromises. I know one person who is really uptight about freedom, even more uptight than rms: it is my grandma. She is not using _any_ computer or digital device whatsoever, and there are lots of people in this world who do - not because they value freedom, but for other reasons. Most of them don't do it because they want to. They are just poor - think if the people living in africa. I don't want to change places with them. I heard people here suggesting others to quit their university career because they were forced to make a compromise. Like: "Using a pc with non-free blobs like I do, that's ok, but using this other piece of nonfree software for the sake of your education ... rather leave this university and get a job in a factory!" "As free as possible" is not thinkpenguin, it's not gluglug, it's not lemote. It is: no pc. And that's possible. And even if people don't want to utter this truth, it is and was always the truth. We all make compromises, and we should not look down on others just because they make more compromises than we do. Everybody has a different threshold, and that's fine. The important thing is: we should be concious about freedom, we should care about the issue, we should try to stay as free as -for us personally- acceptable, we should always strive for a solution that is more free and at the same time fulfills our needs. I don't criticize you for your business, Chris. I criticize you for your way of criticizing others for their doings.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Executable script won't execute in panel
Not really. It runs the script when I double click the file, but if I drag the file to the lower panel, creating a "shrotcut", clicking it will just open gedit. I can't believe I will really have to put my scripts into a specific folder in linux (which I forgot which one, will have to research) in order for this to work.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Alternate proposal for FCC's (indirect) ban on free software : require the release of code
Be careful what you wish for. The Don-Not-Call list and Caller ID are useless because callers can forge the ID's that appear on our Caller-ID enabled phones. That stifles commerce carried out over the telephone. Should the FCC ever figure out a way to require revealing the IPv6 address of phone devices to the recipients of phone calls, then it's imperative that the IPv6 address be immutably associated with the calling device in order for Caller ID and the Do-Not-Call list to become effective.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Feud between Chris & Francis Over! (I think)
hahaha, that is funny. Equality for the win!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Executable script won't execute in panel
It's probably best you set the pref to "ask". One way is to use bash -c "path/to/script" as the target of the shortcut.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Feud between Chris & Francis Over! (I think)
Yeah, that guy jxself is excellent. I recommend Paris for your "manage aeu duĂ (or whatever that writes). I hear the city is super romantic. Just leave your laptops at home - you won't need them. :) PEACE

Re: [Trisquel-users] Executable script won't execute in panel
Instead of dragging the file there, try right-clicking on the panel itself and creating a custom launcher. You should use the path to your script as the command. That is what works for me. Other than that, I'm not sure what could be different in our set-ups.

Chris I read their docker document that they submitted to the FCC and the sponsorship they gather is huge!
Re: [Trisquel-users] New GNU ethical criteria for code repositories emphasize privacy, freedom, and copyleft
From these criteria, GitHub will get an F.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New GNU ethical criteria for code repositories emphasize privacy, freedom, and copyleft
NAB will get a good rating for sure. Savannah will probably be the highest ranked (big surprise).
Re: [Trisquel-users] ASUS Chromebook C201 now supported in libreboot - ARM CPU
These public discussion are very destructive, both Chris and Francis are two of the most recognized people in the hardware field of the free software movement. So I would recommend both of them to save those accusations to themselves, and attack each other via email. Constructive discussions, however, are welcome. If you don't want to work together, that's fine too, no one will force you, and maybe it's better that way, competition, which is lacking in this business for obvious reasons, IS contructive. OFFTOPIC: The world has been fucked up since the dawn of civilizations, only new f'd up things have risen and some old ones have fallen. I don't agree with this distopian view of the world and that alarmism that has been contributing to some some of those things that you've refered(like spying and hatred). If we want the world to get better, we must work to accomplish that, both Chris and Francis are doing that, but this kind of fights only weaken their companies and in part, the free software movement.
