If I'm not mistaken, the program that makes GNU Info manuals readable is
written in Israel by an Israeli. I urge you not to read any
documentation for GNU programs, including but not limited to Emacs, Guix
and Lilypond.

Which program is the menu of iBus? ibus-setup points to Guix's

[Trisquel-users] Re : how to work with plain text

2017-12-09 Thread lcerf
That should work in Trisquel 7's terminal (but not necessarily with another
implementation of sed than a recent GNU sed):

$ sed -ie 's/[AP]M/&\n\n/g' -e 's/Received from/\n\n&/g' file.txt

[Trisquel-users] Re : Missing manpages

2017-12-09 Thread lcerf
They are probably missing from the default install because many users of
Trisquel do not need them and because those who need them know how to install
them, using the "Synaptic Package Manager" or from the terminal:

$ sudo apt install manpages manpages-dev
You may want to install "manpages-it" too.

Re: [Trisquel-users] how to work with plain text

2017-12-09 Thread masonhock

Tested in Pluma, but other text editors should work similarly:

Use "find and replace" (Ctrl+H in Pluma). Make sure "Parse escape sequences"
is checked.

- replace "AM" with "AM\n\n"
- replace "PM" with "MP\n\n"
- replace "Received from" with "\n\nReceived from"

[Trisquel-users] how to work with plain text

2017-12-09 Thread adel

Hi friends

I have a big plain text (.txt) file that I would like to edit in the
following ways:

 1. after every "AM" or "PM, insert two "Enter"s (line breaks .. like if
this were HTML)

 2. before every "Received from", insert two "Enter"s

There might be a hundred to three hundred of these in the text file. Would
you teach me how to do it automatically somehow?

Why this pages are missing?
I posted this on the italian forum but nobody seems to know exactly why this
pages are missing, i know this is not a big deal since you can read man pages
online, but this intrigued me.

Sorry if my english is not perfect i'm trying to improve it

AMD is completely ignorant. Why someone needs open-source GPU drivers, when
you need huge blobs to use with.

Re: [Trisquel-users] can be this true, whar is you though

I write to Dr. Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, regularly to make their graphics
drivers more Libre friendly. I cannot get dual monitors with Trisquel on any
AMD machine, which sucks. It is good that they are getting better with Linux
drivers, so for multiedia work, like video editing, it is good, but always
could be better. But to get them working on a Libre OS is the holy grail. I
will be writing another letter to Dr Lisa Su (I keep it civil and friendly)
and I am sure she knows me by now. She probably expects letters from me by
now. ; - b (nah) So now is your chance, folks. What should I ask to help
fellow Trisquelites? What would be a dream gift from AMD to the Libre
community? What phrasings should I use and technical terminology? I will put
all that in and let you folks know if she responds.

If true it seems like it come in the form of updates from the motherboard
vendor so one must still wait for them to provide such an update.

Notice the title there on Phoronix where it's AMD "allows" you to. Don't
forget that it's still proprietary, user-subjugating software regardless. So
"allows" seems very appropriate here because it's like "the higher-level
master (AMD) is now allowing the second-level master (the motherboard vendor)
to allow their lowly subject to turn off something." But: Both masters must
be in agreement for this to happen, or it won't.

If it does you can say: Oh thank you, dual level of masters, for allowing me
a choice.

Freedom means not having a master. The better answer seems to be to forget
all the shenanigans that the dual-layers of masters are up to and move to
libreboot so that your computer will obey you, not someone else. Where you
are the master that decides what the computer does (or doesn't do) and are
not the subject of a master that decides for you.

I tried what I mentioned about last night and it booted up fine, with all the
modules. Although, the behaviour of my laptop trackpad seems to have changed.
Now the region on the RHS that does vertical scrolling has widened by about
3-4 times, which is really annoying.

Perhaps the driver has been updated in this newer version kernel? I might try
loading the old module in, to see if I can revert it back.

For booting GNU+Linux, you don't even need BIOS/UEFI. GRUB boots the linux
kernel directly.

For other OS e.g. BSD, ReactOS(not yet supported) you would need BIOS
services. The free "SeaBIOS" payload provides this. The next version of
Libreboot will have a substantially improved "SeaGRUB" implementation as
previously described.
