What security do you really need for a porn site? Anyway, almost all Web servers do use libre security software, e.g. OpenSSL. Making sure the code they're running on their computers is properly audited and secure is their responsibility, not yours.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Booting error after installing Linux-libre kernel.
Hello, this is actually normal. It's also not specific to my kernels. Here's an email thread from 2015 with someone from Parabola also seeing it: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libreboot/2015-11/msg9.html In the case of the other about i915 I expect that it's related to libreboot not having the proprietary option ROM included and is a non-issue since the Intel graphics can be used without it. So it's all related to coreboot/libreboot, not the kernel, and the warnings can be ignored because your computer will continue to operate normally regardless.
Re: [Trisquel-users] uruk gnu/linux 2.0
I tried the live image of Uruk 2.0. It is much better comparing to earlier release. Overall appearance looks much promising. Some observations/suggestions/comments - The Uruk Welcome App did n't start on live system login. Later I found it on menu. Is it configured to start after installation only? - It is nice to see that, Uruk includes VLC media player by default. Is it 100% libre application? If so, why Trisquel is not including it as a universal media player? - How about replacing Mint App Menu (I forgot name for that menu) with Whisker Menu developed by Solus? Is there any legal or free software policy issue? Anyway, I had a nice time while exploring Uruk. The team (or just a person? I'm not sure) has done a great work. Even when giants like Fedora fails to do proper QA, Uruk is doing better. While exploring live image, I have capture some screenshots and published it here. Please have a look. http://www.distroscreens.com/2017/12/uruk-gnulinux-20-lugalbanda-screenshots.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
I apologize that you had this bad experience. I just want to clear a few things up, though: Bank transfer is a perfectly safe method of paying someone over the internet. I've been doing it with my customers for years. I'm not going to tell you that you are wrong, or that your experience is in any way invalid. But like I said in a previous response: Not everyone is satisfied. I assure you, your experience is the exception, not the norm. Like Technoethical probably does, Minifree occasionally messes up with someones order. We also have plenty of customers who are perfectly happy with the service they got. Thing is though? It's really easy for just 1 angry person to make it look like a company is much worse than it actually is. If Minifree was consistently as bad as you described, it would no longer be in business. The fact is, Minifree has been in business much longer than Technoethical.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Testing The Trisquel 8 Upgrade Process
I tried to do this during the weekend. I do not know if I did well, but I changed the word "belenos" to flidas in the repositories at /etc/apt/sources.list and later I tried: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade In the second step ("upgrade") the bottom of power dissapeared. After doing "dist-upgraded" it appeared again but I was not able to shut-down the computer neither to restart. The desktop environment looked the same, and I did encounter other errors but now I am not able to recall them here. For the case of being of some help I will comment here that today I tried to take from the flidas repositories the package for firejail. But I get an error of authetication due to a non recognised key. One must note that EOMA68 is already a standard. Unfortunatelly, it has become common for people to call the Libre Tea Computer Card (LTCC for short) --- one of the devices which comply with the EOMA68 and is currently seeking RYF certification --- to call it just as "EOMA68", or even more: to confuse the LTCC with other devices available in the same crowdfunding campaign. 2017-12-11T23:32:44+0100 s1lv3r1...@gmail.com wrote: > Well you are right i overreacted and i apologiez, but i did not like > the idea that EOMA68 put aside by this, the concept idea is the same. > At least i think that is good for the envirovment if this concept > become a standard in future. > Let's hope this doesn' t compromize in any way the future of the > EOMA68 project > > -- - https://libreplanet.org/wiki/User:Adfeno - Palestrante e consultor sobre /software/ livre (não confundir com gratis). - "WhatsApp"? Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
You say right just 38 euros difference but the difference between the product that you finally receive and the personal attention received is huge. Leah said that all orders currently placed are due to be received before Christmas. Well, I hope those orders will not happen to turn similar to the order that my family and me placed with Minifree. In our case the laptop arrived much later than expected and the customer experience that we had was just something terrible. So my advice is that if you are planning to buy a laptop from Minifree these days you better have into account everything that I say here and rather consider buying from Technoethical or any other company because if your order happens to turns to be like ours, you might not be receiving your laptop on time not even and something that your might be buying for a gift might finally be turning into a problem lasting weeks for you. I will try to make a short summary though in the future I want to write a larger review comparing both companies. Technoethical has more payment options than Minifree does. While with Technoethical you have the option of paying easily with your credit card with Minifree you do not have that option and you are forced to buy through a bank transfer (or eventually with bitcoins). Although Minifree says that this is due to privacy concerns of its owner, what I know for sure is that paying through a bank transfer to a company from another country place you in a situation of vulnerability compared to the seller if something goes wrong. Of course you could think: "...but it's Leah's company. She is part of the Trisquel forums!... I can trust on this!". Wel, we trusted her but it was not a nice experience. We placed an order with Minifree some weeks ago and made the bank transfer the same day within few hours. After having made the trasnfer we even send Minifree a copy of the receipt of the bank transfer With Technoethical you can agree the configuration that you would like your computer to have, whereas with Minifree any attempt to suggest a configuration was not even replied. In fact they did not replied to any email until 12 days later, while with Technoethical they are always getting in contact with you for giving you updates about your product, for asking you how would you like this to be configured, etc... If you get concerned about Minifree's lacks of updates about your product and payment, do not bother in trying to contact they by phone... If your case is like ours you are likely to receive the same answer as from your emails: none. In fact Minifree just answered to us when we send them a notification written saying that seeing the lack of any answer we were thinking to report the case to the police. After sending that message they replied to us within 15 minutes ... at midnight! Incredible taking into account that all the previous emails have been written in English and that message was written intentionally in Spanish just for the case that we had to go to report the police. What did not happen in 12 days before, happened within 15 minutes at midnight ... That gives you an idea of the level of trust that you can place in Minifree. We finally received our laptop 17 days after paying for it. We received a laptop that was not clean, with a charger which has on it big letters written in typpex... I cannot say that it was bad packaged, however it was not in a way that a person could expect that it was something fragile. The postman just through it to the floor. Of course Minifree is not to be blamed for this latter, but just you to have an idea of the fantastic overall experience that we had. The funnies thing however happens when after several weeks the person of the family for whom it is intended the gift arrived, turns on the computer and cannot enter the user because the password provided it is not recognised. We entered in contact again with Minifree and as we expected they did not provided us with a real solution. They just say something like that they do not have any idea about that and that because the computer was not encrypted we could take out the HDD and do some commands on another computer to change the password... So a clean and ready to use laptop, you see. I read many promises about specifications here, but the true thing is that we received a laptop without Bluetooth and without any cam. What about the keyboard? Even though at Minifree's webpage they explain that they might endevour to provide you with a keyboard from your specfic country if available, the true thing is that they probably will not be contacting you for checking what kind of keyboard your want and if you try to contact them to make a suggestion are likely not to receive any answer as explained before. With Technoethical, we received a laptop that was clearly having taken care of. Any extra that you could

Well, firstly it isn't a copy. It uses a totally different architecture. Secondly, EOMA is an open standard concept wise...and it isn't an original concept to boot. There is totally nothing wrong with Intel creating this and it has been in development for sometime. It wouldn't surprise me if this product was in development before EOMA, Intel has been pushing similar products for years.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Despite some statements being said here by one or two people, Minifree actually does take strides to provide the best possible customer services. This includes reasonably fast shipping, and high product quality. Of course, it's also true that critics are the loudest voices, and I accept that some may not be satisfied. I would also like to correct something: Minifree X200 with 8GiB RAM and 160GB HDD is 358 EUR, not 430 EUR. We provide the same level of customer service as Technoethical, at half the price.

Re: [Trisquel-users] How to execute a .sh file downloaded on Trisquel
chmod + x --> this will give the file the execution permission. so, for instance, lets assume your file is in Documents: in terminal write -> cd Documents Now that you are in the right directory (same as the file), you give it: chmod + x file.sh and then you run it ./file.sh TIP: you can drag your file with the mouse to your terminal, which is equivalent of writing its full path: /home/evrjo/Documents/file.sh Usually running an application from terminal is excellent for troubleshooting and finding out why it won't start. I assume it is because the file is missing the permission the execute. If not, tell us the error output.

It's a misconception that Technoethical products cost double than from other companies. Tacking into account only the total paid for the X200 with the specs mentioned on the product pages: €430 EUR = Minifree X200 w/ 8GB RAM €478 EUR = Technoethical X200 (8GB RAM) The difference is for the double the speed dual band WiFi card. Half price but the support attention that you receive buying at Technoethical cannot be compared with the one received from Minifree. Technoethical gives by far a better attention not to say cares more for every detail than Minifrees does. Written by a customer of both companies.

I wish I didn't have to say this but yea, what Supertramp said. The only purpose of a corporation is to make money for its stockholders. If you want to blow off steam by spending four years of your life tightening your belt so you can take a day off of work every week to write hand written thank you notes to the people who donate to a nonprofit, I can probably hook you up with a suitable tax deductible organization and it probably won't cause as much liver damage as long term use of psychiatric medication or chronic alcoholism. But if you want to make a small, concrete, positive difference in your own life and the lives of other people you come in contact with on a daily basis by running a 100% free FSF endorsed Gnu/Linux distro on your home (and perhaps eventually even small business if you have one that is small enough) without having to deal with trash like my illustrious self on your peer support forum, you're better off listening to what these people have to say and treating them with the respect they deserve.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Any libre + uncensored 18+ tubes or forums?
Making the server free/libre doesn't change a thing. You're not running the server software in your computer. What I would be more concerned with is with client-side software, like those written in JavaScript, which are made with complete corresponding source that goes beyond the non-minified JS file (that is: these source files also include the plethora of "grunt" files and such used in build time). These client-side stuff is indeed series, it can track you, even through audio clues, hardware fingerprinting, and control aspects such as allowed keyboard keys, allowed browser functions, and can change clipboard content. Also, making the server software free/libre doesn't change the fact that it won't still federate. That is, suppose there is a famous site which is known to have free/libre server-side software available for the public to reuse, then someone decides to use and make a similar site because the original happens to not be of that person's liking, the network effect of people who only know the original site will make life difficult for that new site host, besides this new host will probably not be able to make its site interact transparently and fully with the original. 2017-12-11T03:47:53+0100 hd-sca...@users.sf.net wrote: > Not just JavaScript, but their servers are also needed to be libre, of > course libre clients and libre webpages are basic of basic. > -- - https://libreplanet.org/wiki/User:Adfeno - Palestrante e consultor sobre /software/ livre (não confundir com gratis). - "WhatsApp"?
