I saw it's advertisements on TV some time ago. Does this distrution have a libre kernel? Just the standard Debian kernel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Linux Voice
I used to be a fan of such an another magazine when I used to think GNU/Linux was only Linux, I have realised how these magazines try to a hide the social movement beneath the open-source and save money methodology. They don't even try to tell the readers about free software. While in India the free software community was against the unique identification of people, that magazine was writing articles likes Open-source wins, government uses open-source software on the most costly project.

I know a lot of you want to see software patents go and they probably won't as long as Microsoft has a hand in lobbying. Here is another interesting stat: Sherlund says that if you back out the Android profits, Microsoft is probably losing $2.5 billion on Skype, Xbox, and Windows Phone. Of that, $2 billion in losses are attributable to the Xbox platform.

This causes playback to freeze for a few seconds, and then it jumps ahead a few seconds requiring me to rewind to catch what I missed. It doesn't make things unwatchable, but it results in not-very-good performance. Has anyone else run into this problem? Are there settings somewhere I can tweak to see if I can mitigate it? Well I use smplayer to watch videos and it has cache settings which you can increase that might help.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Talks about DRM
/If people didn't pirate stuff, we wouldn't have so much DRM as we have./ You are confused about piracy because the companies with unethical minds have used the media to spread the message that you are a criminal if you share you are a criminal. When a person is buying a software, the person should own the software but that doesn't happen. It is only and only like the person is renting the software from those companies to get a job done now with proprietary software. Let's presume a company sells a free operating system, Trisquel and a copies of Trisquel shipment is en-route to distributors but some people attack that shipment, steal Trisquel's copies and sell it. That would be piracy!

Re: [Trisquel-users] [Bulk] Rather than invoking scripts through /etc/init.d ...
Why ifup /interface/ or ifdown /interface/ returns me: ifup and ifdown commands works fine on my machine. Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service (8) utility, e.g. service smbd reload. Since the script your are attempting to invoke has been converted to an Upstart job, you may also use the reload(8) utility, e.g. reload smbd. ? Why I have this message about service command? - I never have this notice about /etc/init.d. And why it's about smbd? Since ubuntu uses upstart initiation scripts that's why the upstarts initiation scripts show that message when you run /etc/init.d/init-script-name start/stop/restart If you run ls -l /etc/init.d/ you'll see most scripts( which were converted to upstart job are linked to /lib/init/upstart-job

Installed a package called sysv-rc-conf, runned it as root, mysql section was already unmarked even though it started during boot. I have even rebooted each time after trying each of the methods. I am also informed that on Debian-Ubuntu based systems it is mysql and not mysqld. Previously I had disabled apache2 using sysv-rc-conf before I knew about update-rc.d and later I have used update-rc.d to remove postgresql init scripts. I have checked in my /etc/rc[2-5].d folders update-rc.d did remove the mysql scripts. Also I have noticed apache2 and postgresql are just scripts in the /etc/init folder while mysql is a softlink to /lib/init/upstart-job and I am trying to read and understand the upstart-job.
