Palemoon is not free software.

Are you trying to remove software why deleting files manually? If so,
don't. Use the package manager.

The most beginner-friendly way is to
go to Add/Remove Applications and remove the Libreoffice packages
along with any other applications you don't want.

You might also try launching Synaptic Package Manager, it exposes a
little more complexity than Add/Remove Applications, so it's not quite
as beginner friendly but gives you more control. Be careful though. If
you aren't sure what something is, do a web search or ask here before
removing it.

Finally, if you are comfortable using a terminal, you can remove
LibreOffice with

# sudo apt remove libreoffice*

Is the issue that you only have one computer, and at this time cannot
afford to completely replace your existing operating system with
Trisquel? If so, would dual booting work for you?

There is not much room left on the 8gb usb stick even though nothing has been
downloaded, exept palemoon browser. I don't understand linux file
structures. Have tried to delete all the libre office software but can't seem
to do it.

Other updates are waiting listed as 'security updates' but will not download
due to lack of room.

i realise a usb is not ideal to run this os but it's all i have right now.

Ideas ?

That Microsoft stops Losedows 7's support really doesn't make any difference
for me. For security's sake, I never apply security updates and always
disable the anti-virus software.

Please note that (proprietary) anti-virus software is bigger threat than
viruses. In order to kill viruses, anti-virus software must run at higher
privilege than viruses. But what would happen if such high privilege software
doesn't serve you...

Thanks for the replies. After a few failed attempts at running trisquel from
usb, it's now working again on 8gb usb 32bit fat32 (x60). the live version
with persistence.

Trisquel is being run as a possible windows replacement when win7 stops
getting security updates in jan 20. Win 8.1 is available but I just don't
like it. Puppy linux is good but trisquel is more suited to my uses. When
minifree gets up and running again an x200 libreboot trisquel machine looks
tempting.

[Magic Banana
That or simply make a live system with persistent storage. Trisquel's
graphical tool allows to specify the size of such a storage ("stored in
reserved extra space"): https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/how-create-liveusb

The problem with USB flash drives is that writing a lot on them damages them.
As a consequence, it is not advisable to use them for your everyday work.]

Prepare two USB flash drives and make one of them a Live USB. Boot into Live
environment and install it to the other USB drive. Be sure to write MBR to
the destination drive.

You said that something went wrong, but what happened in details? Any error
information or even screenshot would be helpful.

[Trisquel-users] install trisquel 8 32bit to USB

2019-12-09 Thread tr33hugger
First post. New user. I had Trisquel 32bit running on an 8Gb USB FAT32 with a
thinkpad x60 (no HDD), USB boot.

Then decided to reformat to EXT4 and reinstall Trisquel. Something went wrong
and now nothing works.

Whats the best way to install the OS to run from USB ?

Thanks.
