Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
Hmm... So how long do you think it will be out in, and when do you think quantum computers will become dangerous enough that x86 will be completely useless...
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
Ah, well thats okay. I just felt like asking. Besides, RISC-V hopefully will be around the corner in half a decade. ;)
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
Hmm... I don't feel like selling it very much, as it was used to compose my Ph.D. dissertation. And later one of my Master students used it to compose her thesis. As I said before, X200s with WXGA+ screen are very rare; and they were much more expensive than those with normal WXGA screens. I have also been actively searching for an extra one.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
Cool, do you have one you could sell in the future? Aka, extra? I wouldn't be able to buy till december though...
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
Oops, I've posted my reply to wrong place. Sorry for the inconvenience. I prefer SU series CPU to SL series. Battery life is more important.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
I think X200s models with SU9x00 CPU can now be librebooted (at least corebooted). My community friends recently corebooted X301 with SU9x00 CPU, which is very similar with X200s (same chipset). If you want to run virtual machines on librebooted X200 series, then there is still certain problem with VT, related to CPU microcode. But the CPU performance should not be a problem. I can even run VMs on an X300 (GM965 based) with weaker SU7100 CPU. Whether SL9x00 or SU9x00 is better depends on your needs, i.e., battery life or CPU performance. As for the screen, you asked that "does it have a LCD screen". Then I could only tell you that (almost) any laptop computer has at least one LCD (liquid crystal display) screen. For X200s models, they all have LED-backlit LCD screens. And very few of them have WXGA+ (1440*900) screens, and those who have WXGA+ screens also have carbon fiber tops like X1 Carbon and are therefore much lighter.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
Is the X200s with SU9600 processor, librebootable? And does it have a significant battery life difference compared to the X200 regular, meaning it uses less? Also, does it have a LCD screen, and finally, if you had 4gbs of ram on it, would it be able to use 128mb of it, for a virtual machine of archlinux or parabola or hyperbola? Obviously, without crashing the comp though. ;) Does it have an lcd screen and last I guess, do you have a spare if the answer to these is yes? :) The x200 regarding ghz, can handle virtualizing 128mb oses easily. In fact it can even handle distributing 2gbs of ram. So what I am wondering is would that X200s model I mentioned worked almost as well? Like a 50% reduction in processor speed/how much it can handle? I am thinking of these questions so I know if SL9600 is the better processor for X200s or if I would rather have SU9600.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
Like any used devices, most N-th (>= second) hand notebooks are very likely to have certain parts replaced. And serial number and machine type code can be easily counterfeited (including those in BIOS). So the original configurations don't make much sense for me. I often go to dark market to search for used computing devices that partially respects user's freedom, and I just bring several Live USB media. The lspci and lsusb utilities should do most works for me. However, thank you for sharing anyway.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
I do have such an X200s with SU9600 and WXGA+ screen. It came with an Atheros AR2425, too.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A 'tool' to select librebootable thinkpad
Didn't even know there were X200s laptops with SU9600 processors in cicrulation. :)
