Re: [Trisquel-users] Is this Librem13 fully free this time?
We can not and must not believe anything this dude Todd says. He's obviously a deluded, unethical opportunist. His claims have absolutely no value at all. He has earned some money with the Librem 15. But that's it. The fiesta hopefully and very probably ends here for Todd. The librem 13 funding ends in a few days and he hasn't collected but 1/3 of the money. The reason is, I think and hope, finally people have seen it clearly beyond his nonsense and bs delusions. As I already said, the true problem with people and projects like this Todd dude and the Purism is that all this money could have been employed to advance (financially and consequently de facto technically) true libre projects like the libreboot community and gluglug.

No. Not FLOSS but FREE SOFTWARE or LIBRE SOFTWARE.

Re: [Trisquel-users] good free program for translating languages?
There are no programs that can translate any language *properly*. Languages are very complex systems. Especially, resolving the ambiguities in the text is something a machine promptly fails to do. Machines can't translate idioms, which are an essential and very frequent part of every human language. If you want something that translates text but it translates it a la google translate, that is, terribly inaccurately, I'm sure there are programs that can do it, but if you want a decent translation you have two options: paying someone for the translation or learning the language.

sudo ufw enable sudo netstat -tulpn and see what is listening to the internetz. Remove everything you don't use/need. Relax. If your suntzunnoy enemy is not the NSA, you are perfectly fine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] italian reading who can translate a court decision?
Year 2005. Marco Pieraccioli demands the money of the unused winowns license returned to him. HP disagrees saying that the software and the hardware are inextricably joined together on the computer they sold to Pieraccioli. Pieraccioli did not accept the terms of the EULA. He did not click on the accept thing and did not use the microshit software in any way. The judge reckons that hardware and software are two different and separable things. The legal contract is between the customer (Pieraccioli) and the computer producer (HP) and for this reason the judge reckons there is absolutely no legal obligation between Pieraccioli and Micrositz. Buying a hardware does not imply that the customer is forced into accepting the OS preinstalled on it. I see those articles are cited - art.101 Tratt. FUE, già art.81 Tratt.Ist.CE; art. 2 1. 287/90) european comission - the customer who buys a computer with the preinstalled os and does not accept the license terms during the first boot of the computer has the legal right to keep the computer and return the software getting the money of the software back. And yes, all those boring stupid and uselessly long text is saying just this, but you know the drill of the law - they make it complex and long because that way they make sure the average Joe will not read it and if he does read it, he won't understand it.. Re: [Trisquel-users] Conky acting wierd!
Strange. When did this start? Did you change anything recently?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Conky acting wierd!
Hmm.. not really, but it seems to me as you are running two instances of conky. ps aux | grep conky and see if it so. Also, do you have your DE save the session on logout? That would explain the double instance and the overlay, I guess, as the old conky and the new one that is creating on boot/restore session produce the issue you experienced. Other than that I fear I'm out of further ideas on this one.. Hope you solve it, cheers!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Best secrity tools to defend my Trisquel system against douchebags?
abosolutey wrong, the NSA is the least likely people to be targeting you. But you definitely have to worry about everyone else paranoid much, ha? Who do I have to worry about. The occasional script kiddo cracking my setup? Yeah, right.. GNU is very secure by default. Just chill and relax.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel Noob Here
I personally think Trisquel's graphical installer is a piece of shit, and would always use a netinst CD, so I can actually install what I want, and have a decent installation experience. It is not. The installer is exactly and perfectly what it was meant to be: extremely user friendly. Trisquel as a distro was thought and executed to be as user friendly as possible and that is why it is based on Bugnunntu and not Debian. At least this is my understanding.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Conky acting wierd!
Well, some of the changes you did obviously caused this strange behavior. Check the conky config and try to understand where is the misconfiguration. Also, killall conky and restart it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Replace ethernet chipset in Thinkpad x201?
ThinkPad X201: this will likely never be supported in libreboot, due to the Intel Management Engine. However, it is possible to “convert” an X201 into an X200, by replacing the mainboard and palm rest. Send your X201 to the gluglug, along with an X200 (note: not X200S or X200 Tablet) mainboard and X200 palm rest, and the motherboard/palmrest will be swapped out for you, with libreboot installed onto the X200 mainboard. X201S and X201 Tablet are not a part of this service.

Re: [Trisquel-users] SpyBlock doesn't work - IceCat 31.8
No. aslacker - as far as I know it is much like privacy badger in this sense. The both think that only the ads that track you are a bad thing and should be blocked.
Re: [Trisquel-users] SELinux and an interesting Warning on Blag
right..
Re: [Trisquel-users] SpyBlock doesn't work - IceCat 31.8
what exactly do you mean by doesn't work? Icecat's spyblock addon function is not to block ads but the trackers and thus only those adds that track the user will be blocked. If you want it to block all adds you need to add a filter to its filters list. If I may recommend a filter: fanboy ultimate list.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New Updates: Opensource/Free FPS standalone mod of Xonotic (ChaosEsque) version 57 etc.
No. Really no sarcasm was intended.. I was just joking on the well known fact that the first Crysis (2007) was and is so heavy (and graphically beautiful) that on ultra settings even recent and good computers show some stuttering! I played that game on my laptop from 2010 (medium/hugh gpu) and couldn't play it decently even on medium settings and screen resolution 1280*720 :( And yes, when I played it I was still using the winzozz crapOS.. cheers

Re: [Trisquel-users] laptop
everythingtypically needed by people? I managed to do "everythingtypically needed" on a crappy atom with 1 gb of ram. Such is the power of GNU. My current installation takes 350 mb of ram on boot. Vista and all the other poor blobsforwin version can't compare. But then again if you include in the "modern things" running Xonotic in fullhd and max settings..then the situation changes drastically. You'd need the power of 4 x200..
Re: [Trisquel-users] Cognitive ease and free software

Re: [Trisquel-users] Difference between Linux-libre kernel and Debian (main) kernel?
Absolutely not true. Programs in "main" don't recommend any proprietary crap (you are referring probably to contrib which is off by default as it is non-free). Have you even used Debian? >Iceweasel for instance uses Mozilla's extension site I believe. So what? He who wants to install a proprietary extension for the browser WILL install it on Debian just as on Triskel or whatever. Iceweasel doesn't recommend anything. The few packages with the Artistic License 1.0 are all double or triple licensed with GPL or some others approved licenses.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Don't want Dnsmasq services

Re: [Trisquel-users] Difference between Linux-libre kernel and Debian (main) kernel?
see what I'm talking about? Some "micropower douche-inside" (to cite from quantumgravity) just downvoted my post above. The post is correct. It is polite and correct. There is no false info or anything that offends anyone. Yet the microdouche just pressed - with his stupid finger and let out the idiot inside without even leaving a phrase explaining why my post is not good. Now it just takes another douche to do the same for my correct and polite post to go censored and disappear, marked as inappropriate, incorrect, whatever. See why this utter voting crap has to go? Btw. Whoever downvoted it: fuck you! P.S - please do feel free to downvote this one being that it is very very impolite.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Difference between Linux-libre kernel and Debian (main) kernel?
Adfeno: Hi mate! I will repeat myself for the 600th time: he who wants to install a proprietary piece of software WILL install it no matter which distro he uses. Some distro make it more difficult to do so, but that is another matter and not even an important one. All this work creating a special repo for addons it's good but it is nowhere essential. The one who absolutely and intimately decides not to install a proprietary whatever software will check 3 times the license of every and each package he downloads/installs outside of the libre repository. I can guarantee you that. The one who hasn't made that "absolute and intimate, strongly convinced decision" will install whatever proprietary crap on Trisquel as on Parabola as on Debian etc etc. I see it this way: you can not force people into freedom. I'm not saying that implying that it is unethical (forcing people into anything could be viewed as unethical). But I am not saying that. I'm just saying that it doesn't work. Sadly you can force people into slavery and dependence but you can not force them into freedom. It just doesn't work that way. It never did. It never will. One does not become free because he installed gnewsense or Ututo. One becomes free when he unconditionally decides he will never ever and for no reason install/use/share proprietary software. cheers

Re: [Trisquel-users] would anyone know of any online classes that i could learn more about linux?
I read many things on js. As far as I understand most browser exploits use javascript and can not do anything if js is disabled. If your installation ill get pwned it will be most probably through your Browser and specifically through some js attack. I keep it disabled all the time and allow it on just one site (I have had this "just one site js allowed policy" for a long time now). Re: [Trisquel-users] Cinnamon Messaging Menu
the name of the indicator should be indicator-applet and if you type that in the terminal it should start. If I am correct, then all you need to do is make sure it starts automatically on boot. In xfce there is an option in the main settings called Session and startup and there one can add what he wants to run on boot (conky for instance or plank in my case). In cinnamon you should have a similar setting. If not you need to place the .desktop file in /home/.config/autostart/ cheers

Re: [Trisquel-users] USB boot on Libreboot X60
Lola - just download the ISO and dd a USB stick and restart your lappy. Tails should work just fine. As far as the non-free firmware in the linux kernel, as far as I know, if your lappy doesn't need it you won't be using it. Example - if your wifi card works with free firmware and doesn't require the non-free one, then you won't be using the non-free, but the free firmware. That goes with all the components of your PC. If your pc works well with Trisquel, then when you boot Tails the firmware the linux kernel will be loading are the free ones. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. cheers

Re: [Trisquel-users] Cognitive ease and free software
Well, just because it is you quantumG and because I want a part in your next Bollywood movie.. Themes go in /usr/share/themes Icon themes in /usr/share/icons gtk theme is Greybird -> https://github.com/shimmerproject/Greybird Make sure to install murrine-themes and qt4-qtconfig (this may or may not be needed - On Debian 8 it is needed) and in qt 4 Settings set the GUI style to GTK+ The Greybird theme is awesome. The only thing I changed is the highlight color. I changed it from the overly-light-blue to a nice light-grey. #808080 That you can do with gtk-theme-config. The window theme is also Greybird (don't forget to go in Settings - Window Manager and select Greybird. Icon theme is Numix-Circle but a heavily modified one (merged with other two themes). You just use the default one. It's nice enough. https://github.com/numixproject/numix-icon-theme-circle Now the transparent panel. Delete the default top and bottom panels. Create new panel and make it like this: separator, whiskermenu, separator, orage, separator, notification area, separator. Set all the separators to be transparent and expand second and third separators. Lock the panel. In orage uncheck "show frame" and place in line 1 "%a %b %d %R %p" and make it Bold characters. In notification are uncheck "show frame". Now you have full transparency when you go to Panel prefernces - Appearence - set Alpha to 0 (zero) Now whiskermenu. Display: Title Title: Applications (to make it bold characters) In Menu check: "show app description" and "position search entry next.." and "position categories next.." Item icon size - normal Category icon size -none Place the .gtkrc-2.0 file (attachment) in /home and restart session (just changing theme and then back should do it too). Note that that whisker theme I set it like that becuse I like it like that. You can change the colors to your liking. It's easy to do so. Conky is in attachment too. cheers quantumG. Send me bitcoins when you are rich.

Teelinome: sorry that didn't work :( I suggested that procedure because that is what I did some time ago when I had some audio issues (which I then solved by completely purging pulse audio). I needed a decent audio control applet and I installed and made automatically executable on boot the plugin "volti" and it worked. I have little experience with cinnamon (Mint cinnamon was my first distro when I switched to GNU) but being that I used it a long time ago I don't remember well the panel settings etc.. Maybe try asking in their IRC or forum or whatever they have.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Vulnerability in the linux kernel... when 7.0.1?
Ciao BSOD! Indeed the kernel for Buguntu 14.04 LTS and all the derivatives using that kernel (like Triquel 7) must upgrade to linux-image-3.13.0-68 (3.13.0-68.111) uname -a will give you the output of what kernel is currently running on your OS. I guess the developers already pushed the updated kernel. If not, I would suggest you install the latest jxself's libre kernel 4.3
Re: [Trisquel-users] How to translate for Trisquel
I see what you mean now. I had no idea the language support was incomplete. That is because ever since I was a kiddo using Windows 95 I preferred the English language for my OS, so I did not use Italian for instance on Trisquel.. Maybe try asking Quidam on IRC or aklis.

You are new with GNUx and you should learn how to do what you want to do. Most distros (even Debian which is well known for its minimalism) come with several services pre-installed). I tend to lock down my fresh installation. I learned how to do that by reading, reading and more reading and playing. Hence my suggestion to do the same. Internet is full of info on Ubuntu. All that info applies to Trisquel as well being that Trisquel is nothing else but the LTS version of Ubuntu without blobs in the kernel and non-free software in the repository.

cng-driver: yw! look at this screenshot -> http://linuxscoop.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Ubuntu-MATE-14.04-MATE-Control-Center-Startup-Applications.jpg You should find that on your system and add a launcher and write as command the command you provided above. That should do it. cheers
Re: [Trisquel-users] Totally Libre Version of Chromium?
lilos: try this -> sudo apt-get remove --purge iridium-browser then remove the iridium folder in /home then reinstall and run it cheers
Re: [Trisquel-users] Untransparent Bloatware
yeah..
Re: [Trisquel-users] Where is Icedove version 38.x
That is right. You get the point updates. Indeed on Debian stable the version is also 31.8.0-1 What recommendations for proprietary addons? I see no such thing on Debian Banana Magique.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Vulnerability in the linux kernel... when 7.0.1?
Hmm, don't you need to reboot in order for the kernel to get actually upgraded or am I wrong?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Vulnerability in the linux kernel... when 7.0.1?
well, that doesn't apply to Trisquel 7 live. So, yeah, as BSOD pointed out it is vulnerable.
Re: [Trisquel-users] So, where do you guys get Content that's Non-free yet DRM-free? (not talking about Games unless there's a free engine)
well said, Jaded +5
Re: [Trisquel-users] beagleboardblack fully free software?
The thinkpad that the FSF awards is not "full of proprietary code" - it has to firmwares, one for the hard drive and one for the embedded controller. Btw it wasn't me who downvoted your post. I prefer to use words to dissent and not this stupid and completely useless sissy voting system. cheers

Re: [Trisquel-users] "Johnny Carson flashes" are frustrating problem analyses
you are wrong jxself. **he** is alive.
Re: [Trisquel-users] beagleboardblack fully free software?
I just upvoted because you upvoted. Your turn again.
Re: [Trisquel-users] beagleboardblack fully free software?
>when in reality those two firmwares alone can render full disk encryption useless (totally possible that your password is recorded somewhere inside the device, ready to be read by an adversary). any link/proof? I heard that too or read it somewhere, but I'd like a link pointing to a website or video where someone actually proves that he/she has successfully managed to do so.
Re: [Trisquel-users] shutdown stalls
I have no idea what can you do to prevent the issue. I can recommend a way to shut it down without forcing a cold-reboot/sutdown which is not good for your hardware. ctrl + alt + f1 and enter: sudo shutdown -h now (to shut your lappy down) sudo shutdown -r now sudo init 0 and sudo init 6 will do the same. There are also sudo halt and sudo reboot. cheers
