From a list of ancient gods and goddesses, storybook characters, people
mentioned in their children's school textbooks, subway lines, random words
plucked blindly from the dictionary, and various persons hated by employees
at TWC, they have devised a list of names to give to winter storms (aka
 snow hurricanes).

Why? I have no clue whatsoever, so I will just go to the standby: for
 ratings.

The NBC station in Philadelphia tried this about 10 years ago. The approach
was so laughable that it was dropped after one season, if not earlier.

Agreed on Revolution needing something... and soon. In my mind, the
last thing the series should be about is how to turn the lights back
on. The story gets more interesting as soon as power is restored and
everyone has to adapt. But my sense is they will drag the plot along
all f-ing season.

In the comments of that story, one guy claims he got the idea to name
blizzards all the way back in 2000, and that because of the noted legal
concept of Firsties he will be having a stern talking to with the Weather
Channel. Meanwhile -- likely using the same powerful computer systems that
he used to help design his site, The Weather Space -- he has already
determined that one storm has met the threshold for naming, and has thus
claimed the storm and preemptively dubbed it Adam. Admittedly, his list
of names is less stupid/less imaginative than TWCs.

Here are his list of names, which he declares are the OFFICIAL nationwide
Winter Storm names of 2012-13, as they are certified and notarized by the
International Council of Officially Naming Things and Discount Web Design
and Hosting:

*Adam, Bree, Charles, Dominica, Edwin, Faith, Garrett, Hillary, Ian, Janet,
Keon, London, Mackenzie, Naomi, Omar, Patricia, Quinton, Rachel, Seth,
Tanner, Ukiah, Valarie, Winston, Xara, Yaro, and Zoey
