Stephen Colbert's flavor is delicious.
Jimmy Fallon's flavor tastes good but is WAY too salty, due to the pretzel
pieces throughout. You shouldn't finish a dish of ice cream and think I
need a Coke right now.

[TV orNotTV] TV Everywhere Not Catching On

2013-01-29 Thread Joe Hass
The idea of being able to watch content on any computer by validating
your subscription is barely catching on. Only 30% of pay TV customers
surveyed use that type of service to watch it. The biggest barrier:
the validation process (you know: when you have to remember a user
name/account number/password you never received/used), which stops
70%.

Add to that geolocation issues (you can't even get to HBO GO if you're
outside the US), and once again we wonder why things are drying up
over in cable land.

[TV orNotTV] Re: 30 Rock to get its own Ben Jerry's flavor

2013-01-29 Thread M-D November
I'm assuming someone has already thought of and dismissed all variations of
Liz Lemon Party. My guess is something related to Muffintop (Jenna's
'hit' song from season 1 or 2) or - really going for the novelty aspect - a
flavor somehow evocative of Sabor de Soledad.

Oh, or they could just pull from canon and really make Tracy Jordan's BJ
flavor, Adultaraisin.

[TV orNotTV] Re: NBC considers merging local sidechannels into single network

2013-01-29 Thread K.M. Richards
There's a reason for the Nelsons being fuzzy; Cozi fills some program slots
with public domain programming (they also have copies of the ten existing
kinescopes of the early Burns and Allen shows that had been done live,
before George and Gracie went to pre-filming in season three); those are
the slots that affiliates can pre-empt for their own programming.

My recollection is that they also have the 1953 syndicated Sherlock Holmes,
several Red Skelton Shows, and the Beverly Hillbillies episodes that fell
into PD.

The Ozzie Harriet and Beverly Hillbillies PD episodes also run on RTV and
IIRC Burns Allen PD eps also run on the LPTV network America One.

That explains it. The poor picture quality on The Red Skelton Show didn't
bother me - I expect 1950s variety shows to look grainy, having seen my
share of Jackie Gleason episodes. But I really noticed bad quality on Ozzie
and Harriet, Beverly Hillbillies, and a 1940s Jimmy Durante movie.

There are plenty more shows. I have cheapie DVDs of The Jack Benny Show,
You Bet Your Life, and The Jack Paar Show. The decision to let shows lapse
into public domain, or more accurately, not decide prevent them from
lapsing came before there was a home video market and could have to do with
turnover of executives at production companies.

That was the case with the Hillbillies, when Filmways merged with Orion
